About the Author
Xena and Oscar, two of the very special companions who have blessed Jeanie's life (along with their best friend, Oso) inspired Jeanie to combine her passions for music, story telling and teaching to create the "Los Diggities" series of stories. It is her fondest wish to raise awareness of the need to adopt homeless animals by bringing their stories and personalities to kids of ALL age through the lessons taught by Xena, Oscar and Oso.

Reviewed by Barbara Fanson for Readers' Favorite Three dogs talking to each other. What’s odd about that? Los Diggities Dreams and Nightmares is an imaginative story about three dogs that have dreams—or nightmares. The three dogs—two males and a female—were all rescued by a human named Jeanie. Unfortunately, they all still remember how they ended up in the shelter in the first place and had nightmares about it. Sometimes, Oscar the Boxer snores and it wakes up the other two dogs. Apparently, his snoring can set off car alarms! Have you ever heard a dog or cat snore? Or make sounds in their sleep? Have you ever been ‘paralyzed with fear’ during a nightmare like Oslo and Oscar have? But, they also share good dreams like flying or giving a rat ‘the eye.’ Oslo confessed that he’s had his eye on a beautiful collie that lives down the street. Author Jeanie Cunningham takes us into the lives of three dogs—their struggles, adoptions, fears, dreams, and nightmares. The artwork by illustrator Sona is so realistic looking with a range of tones and contrasts. Sona’s illustrations of the Great Dane are so well done that I’m tempted to reach out and pet him! Children will enjoy reading the dog adventures: where they came from and how they were adopted by Jeanie. Perhaps Los Diggities Dreams and Nightmares can help young children realize that many of us dream while sleeping and sometimes they’re scary. Xena is a very caring dog that listens to Oslo’s dreams and reassures him that it was just a dream. Oscar, the third dog, reassures Oslo that we all have ‘monster dreams’ from time to time. They share stories of real monsters and imaginary ones, like the orange car with the mean-looking grille that hit Oscar and left scars on his leg. Author Jeanie Cunningham is very imaginative and makes us believe that she is a dog, which children will fall in love with. Who doesn’t want a dog?
