She came to the beach to write…
But she’s getting distracted by the surfer next door.

Jenna, a single mom and successful author, has five weeks to deliver her next young adult novel to the publisher. This year’s summer getaway with her kids will be a working vacation.

The only problem? Lucas, the devil-may-care surfer in the beach rental next to hers. He cranks up his music at night, hosts loud volleyball matches, and allows his dog to run around at will.

Jenna often blames him for her writer’s block. But before long, she begins to see a new side of her neighbor at the shore. Maybe opposites do attract…but will that attraction fade like a sunset once summer is gone?

This funny, emotional romance includes a free Hallmark original recipe for Shrimp Scampi.

2 1/2 stars So Teri Wilson’s Love at the Shore almost became one of those dreaded abbreviations in a book blogger’s vocabulary: a DNF. While the writing was good and the story pleasant enough, the main character, Jenna Turner was like fingernails-on-a-blackboard to me. She was controlling with a blame-it-on-everyone else kind of attitude that continued for around 70% of the novel. I am your beach bum wannabe so I can’t even imagine someone coming onto a public beach and yelling because beach-goers were playing their music too loudly during the day. After 10 pm, that’s another thing, but during the day, you’ve got to expect to be laughed off the beach because it’s seriously live and let live. But Jenna is not a live and let live kind of person. Also, I can’t imagine expecting peace-and-quiet on your oceanfront deck at the beach. If you want to write a novel, go indoors where the air conditioner is humming and making white noise that will blank out the sound of all of those people on vacation having a good time. On their vacation. I don’t know how this became a romance because if I had been Lucas I would have migrated to another part of the island while this woman was vacationing next door. His falling in love with her was totally unbelievable. I could see him falling for the kids; her, not so much. I will stop the rant about her whiny, judgmental character now. There were some fun parts of the novel, especially when Jenna stopped being Jenna for a while and almost became a person who enjoyed life. I know that I’m supposed to find some fault with Lucas’ character, but I didn’t really see that much. To sum up: dog – excellent; kids – cute; Lucas – charming but short-sighted (he fell for Jenna); Jenna – ugh. The story is good. The writing is good. For the heckuva it, we’ll call this a YMMV review because the majority of reviewers gave it 4-5 stars. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really liked Love at the Shore as once I started it I could not put it down. I read it in 2 days which is great for me. Sometimes I thought I new what was going to happen and they took the story another way.

It was nice to read a book based on a movie that actually followed the movie. The book provided more insight on Jenna and Lucas that can't be described in a movie. It provided a deeper understanding of the characters, their backgrounds and their current reactions to the situation. The epilogue provided closure that wasn't presented in the movie so I really appreciated that. I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher for my honest review.

If there was ever a perfect “read-while-I’m-on-vacation-summer-break” type of book, it’s this one. It’s a charming story of two people who thought they knew what they wanted from life, but discovered there was still so much more than they ever dreamed. This story has been made into a Hallmark movie and I enjoyed that when I watched it, but this book is better. The characters are more well-defined and the ending of the story has a little different twist than the movie that made for a sigh-worthy ending. The author makes the setting of the story come to life; Lucas and Jenna make a great couple; and I loved the fact that the kids have an important part of the storyline. This is a sweet and clean book that I’d recommend to anyone who wants something light and entertaining to read. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Teri Wilson. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I saw the movie version of this last summer and I loved it, so I was very excited for it to be in book form as well. (And I love that ebooks can be delivered waiting!) It was just like the movie, except you get a little bit more info when you read it, because you are able to access the characters' thoughts. Also, there is an epilogue that I don't remember being part of the movie, so that was fun! I loved the dialogue throughout the book, and ch 13 actually made me laugh out loud. I received an advance copy to review, but all opinions are my own.

Loved it! The setting, characters, themes, and also relatable. Can't go wrong with any of that! Highly recommend adding this to your summer beach read pile.

Love at the Shore does not disappoint and for once, I am glad I got to read the book before the movie! While I'm no stranger to Hallmark films, this was my first book from them and I am smitten. While I offer no spoilers here today, I'll say that this book aside from being incredibly well written, it was relate-able. Having been a single mum before-mind you to only one child at the time-I really felt for Jenna and her plight. Especially being under deadlines. Us authors seriously can lose our minds being behind on pages with a deadline creeping up. Unexpected romances really are the best thing ever on the screen, the page and in real life. You also can't go wrong for a hero starts off knowing what he doesn't want from life and ends up doing the complete opposite. Ha! Five hearts from this girl and you seriously need to get your hands on this one. Now to see if I can send oodles of emails to the W Network here in Canada to see if they can run this movie again. *crying emjoi* I NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE. LIKE NOW.

As usual there is no disappointment here! I love stories like this one. Heartwarming, wholesome and sweet. With two kids and a dog thrown into the story there are even more tugs on the heart strings. This was a sweet romance that will make you smile and warm your heart when you read the interaction between not only Lucas and Jenna, but Lucas, Nick, Ally and Tank (before mentioned kids and dog). This is a great summer read! I also want to point out that as mentioned above the book is wholesome, which means if you prefer not to read racy stories this is for you. Its something you could recommend with ease to anyone and many different ages.

This book is perfect! If you love the beach, grab this book. You feel like you are there, you can see the scenery, hear the gulls and the crashing waves. As always, if it's a Hallmark book it's a winner with a wonderful recipe at the end. Thank you Hallmark Publishing via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Love at the Shore, by Teri Wilson is another book based on Hallmark Channel’s original movies. I saw the movie when it came out and loved the main characters, Jenna and Lucas. Jenna is a teen fiction author hoping to finish her manuscript while her kids, Nick and Ally, enjoy summer camp for the next five weeks. She rents a duplex and runs into her surfer neighbor, Lucas. They get off on the wrong foot. He thinks she needs to “relax” and she calls him “Mr. Slack.“ What a great start to the summer. Five weeks may seem like a short time, but it may make a difference the more these two spend time together. With me seeing the movie, I already knew what was coming, but I loved this book from beginning to end! It is super sweet, and I felt like I was at the beach with the characters. I loved how Wilson goes that much deeper with Jenna and Lucas’ backstory. It makes them much more relatable, and I understood them better. Nick and Ally are a joy and so is Lucas’ dog, Tank. I especially loved the epilogue as it sealed the perfect ending. If you loved the movie, you’ll love the book! If you haven’t seen the movie, read the book first so you can appreciate the movie even more! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review. My opinion is my own.

I really enjoyed reading this book. This writer is excellent. Holds your interest the entire time. Interesting characters and romance besides. You have a single mom and kids at the beach with a surfer right next door. What more could you ask for? I do have a warning - this story will absolutely steal your hear away.

I received an ARC of “Love at the Shore” from the publisher and found this “coming-of-age-like” romance to be an entertaining read! Sun, sand, surfing, writing, kids, and…a dog? Pressed-for-time, bestselling-author Jenna Turner knows that a four-legged happy pup named Tank is definitely not what she wants as a neighbor. Especially after her first encounter with the playfully-interrupting pooch visitor, to her Seawatch beach-house rental on picturesque Tybee Island. Tybee holds wonderful childhood memories for Jenna. She’s not on a writing vacation here to entertain with any “rude” furry canine, though. But what can Jenna do? Thus, her “romance,” humorously, unfolds. A divorcée, Jenna believes that traveling to the island will be the perfect getaway. A place where she can write her second young-adult novel in peace, and where her two spunky, creative, and charming nine and eleven year old kids, Ally and Nick, can have a great time, too. And with her no-nonsense best friend schoolteacher Maureen, Maureen’s carpenter husband Ian, and their son Grayson along as co-vacationers, all couldn’t be more perfect for a summer of work and enjoyment. Attached to Tank, though, is a surfer dude, of sorts, pet owner named Lucas McKinnon. Or, “Mr. Slack” as Jenna believes. “On paper,” Lucas could fit that laid-back bill. Still, Wilson seamlessly works his “beachcomber” character into a swoon-worthy interest for Jenna. That doesn’t happen all at once. Instead, Wilson’s prose continuously peel back the layers of each character in a light, amusing, and informative way. From Jenna and Lucas’s interaction over a dividing picket fence between their adjoining patios, to their revealing chats while “dining” together (that include interesting, colorful snacks made by both Ally and Nick), to their sandy-beach volleyball play competition, summer-camp kid challenges, adult responsibilities, and lessons learned, Wilson has a knack for telling well this turnaround-character story. A super-sweet category romance, I found myself rooting for Jenna and Lucas to become a couple, and for them to seal that with a kiss, ASAP. To her credit, though, Wilson’s storytelling keeps the reader interested in Jenna and Lucas’s tale with well-timed unfolding events. For me, a downside to the story was the scarceness of Jenna's “all-important typewriter.” I would have liked this family heirloom to have been more a part of some scenes. Whether that had been by way of a glance from Jenna throughout, or for her to have actually tried typing on it a few times, I thought that the connection to the typewriter deserved more play. Still, Wilson's story did make mention of this meaningful writer's tool, though, sparingly. This romance is also peppered with food. Good food. Fun food. Food that just may make you hungry. So, eat before your read. Or, keep some munchies at your side while you do so, because you won’t be able to put this book down long enough to get a snack from your kitchen. Better yet, wait until you finish reading the story. Then prepare the included Shrimp Scampi recipe, and enjoy that meal as you recall Wilson’s fun-loving, family-blooming tale of romance. While I have seen Wilson's Hallmark Channel TV movies, and live tweeted with the cable network, this is the first of her novels that I have read, and it's made me a fan. If you're looking for a good read, this is it!

I truly enjoyed reading this book! It's an engaging, & feel-good story. Great characters, & romance make it the perfect summer read. Jenna, a single Mom, & her two kids, were spending the summer at the beach. Lucas, is a layed back, surfer, who lives by his own rules. And his faithful dog, Tank. When Jenna & Lucas, first meet, to say they didn't hit it off, is an understatement. There is clearly a connection between them. But Jenna, has two kids to raise, & Lucas is a confirmed bachelor. Love At The Shore, steals your heart from the very first pages to the last. I loved everything about this Must Read Story!!!

Teri Wilson's Love at the Shore is a genuine delight! I received an ARC copy of the novel yesterday and while I was only intending to take a peek, I read the whole novel in one sitting : ) Wilson did a beautiful job telling a heartfelt, compelling love story with two sweet, charming characters who find each other in the beachy paradise of Tybee Island. Jenna Turner, a best-selling author and devoted mom struggling to meet her manuscript deadline, is a heroine to cheer for as she meets her match with dreamy and kind surfer Lucas Hutchinson. Jenna and Lucas are both full of surprises, and there are many great scenes with well=drawn supporting characters, including Tank--Lucas's lovable dog. Wilson won me over with her warmth and charm; this is a fabulous beach-read that doesn't disappoint : )
