Amanda Fletcher finds herself pregnant during the last semester of college. Her college boyfriend abandons her before his son is born. Her mother cares for the baby while she travels throughout the States to find meaning to her life. She realizes that she is needed at home and hitchhikes her way back to Amarillo. She stops at a stock tank on a ranch in Western Oklahoma to get water and a bath.
