Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas by Janice Hanna

Belinda Bauer in her ivory tower…. In the German community of Poetry, Texas, Belinda spies an opportunity. The tiny town is filled with loggers and railroad men in need of wives, so she sets herself up as a marriage broker. She writes little poems to be printed in newspapers all over the country and one by one, women begin to arrive in Poetry. There’s only one problem: Belinda doesn’t have a clue what she’s doing and all the brides marry the wrong men! One client is particularly unhappy. Georg Kaufman, the local barber, has lost more than one prospective wife to Belinda’s fumbled attempts. For some reason, she just can’t seem to find Georg’s "perfect match," though it’s not for lack of trying. Is there a poetic ending in store for Georg— and for Belinda herself?

In 1904 Poetry, Texas has several German immigrant bachelors who are of marrying age. Seeing an opportunity, Belinda Bauer becomes a marriage broker. She works the personal ads across the country seeking perfect matches for all the eligible men in town. Belinda proves quite good at matching up men with their ideal women and visa versa. However, she soon realizes she made one mistake when she found the perfect match several times for her best friend barber Georg Kaufman. Belinda wants to be his perfect match as she now realizes she loves her best friend forever. The romance between Georg and Belinda is deftly handled so that it seems as if the matchmaker is unaware that her BFF is doing his own subtle matching without hurting the pretenders. The story is a lighthearted historical frolic that brings vividly to life the German immigrant wave of the beginning of the previous century in which advertising for wives was done in newspaper personal ads. With a nod to Hello Dolly except in Texas, fans will enjoy a trek back to the early twentieth century in aptly named Poetry, Texas as Belinda writes poems to find a match. Harriet Klausner

Not the best "Finds You" story. Took me 3 days to get through. Could have left out a lot of the repetitious story line.

My personal preference is NOT for shenanigans and mix-ups so I only read a little bit before skimming to the end. Perhaps others who enjoy that type of reading will enjoy it.

I started yesterday and FORCED myself to put down last night so I could get to bed at a decent hour. *G* Just finished it a few minutes ago. Really enjoyable read! Sweet, and often humorous, illustration of just how big a mess we can make when we get ahead of the Lord, and how He cleans up those messes. Belinda is a wonderful character! Highly recommend this book!

Poetry is an interesting method of communication. It was amazing and good writing in my opinion to find poetry woven not only through out the prose of this story, but also into the metaphors and descriptions of a Christian life. God is the ultimate poet if only we would listen for the next stanza of our lives before jumping on our own. This book contained a great matchmaking and mis-matchmaking love story for the inhabitants of the town of Poetry, Texas and Janice Hanna was also able to weave historical elements of famous poets through out. As my first experience with a Love Finds You novel I was entirely pleased and look forward to reading more of them in the future. The love between the main characters was palpable and described very well in a realistic manner of friendship and assumptions. I love the writing of Janice Hanna aka Janice Thompson, and cannot wait for more both historical and contemporary.

This is an amazing book! I would love to see it made into a movie. The whole time I was reading this book, I was laughing. The characters in this book are so funny! I loved them all. The way Janice paired them all off was genius. She really showed how God's plan isn't always our own, and when that happens we need to be joyful and realize that God has something better for us than we had for ourselves. I don't normally like poetry, but in this book it is very down to earth. The poetry isn't so deep that I can't understand it. (I'll admit it. I don't get deep poetry. Don't like the stuff at all.) Love Finds You in Poetry, Texas is an excellent book that I think anyone will enjoy.

From the very beginning this story captured my heart. This book is a delightful read! I never wanted to put it down! The humor, and the story of each Bride and Groom.... was fantastic, the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat! The characters were real. It made my heart ache for Blenda and Georg!
