Love in a Mist by Patricia Grasso

“Trust the man who wears a flaming crown and possesses the golden touch. Beware the blacksmith.” Cast out of Wales after her mother’s death, Keely Glendower travels to England to find her natural father, the Duke of Ludlow. She wears her magical dragon pendant and carries within her heart her mother’s prophetic words. Though there is no love lost between the Welsh and the English, Keely cannot resist the heated gaze of Richard Devereux, England’s wealthiest earl, the English queen’s “Midas”. Despite, her eccentric ways, Richard is drawn to Keely. Just gazing at the raven-haired, violet-eyed beauty kindles a passion he’s never known. Richard is a very determined man, but when a long buried secret is revealed, can the earl use his power to protect them or will his enemies destroy them both?

I am new to this author and found her work very interesting. I haven't read very much of this genre so I don't know much about it but I love history and it was delightful to learn more about this era. I adored the heroine, Keely, and very much enjoyed how she stayed true to herself throughout the novel, even though she was tested many times. After the death of her mother, she is thrown out of her home by her step-father and must begin a journey to discover her birth father in another country. This causes a great deal of angst within her because she is from Wales and her birth father is from England and she doesn't like the English! But her mother, speaking on her deathbed, told her to go to him, so Keely, does. Her adventures would test even the strongest person but, as I said, she remains true to herself and doesn't let all the high brow, English wealthy royalty people destroy who she really is inside. She does meet her future husband, Richard, and she tests his patience constantly but through many trials, their love grows stronger. There is also a suspenseful element to the story. The secondary characters add a lot to the story as well. The author did a great job of making things historically accurate! I would recommend this!
