## JUST OK FOR ME. I adored the first book. I really did. Unfortunately this sequel was a slight disappointment. ***SPOILERS BELOW*** This book takes place 2 months after book one ends. They spend almost every day together. McKenna is all in but Caden has way too many insecurities. I get that he has abandonment issues, but it felt like McKenna spent so much of their time reassuring him of her feelings and his worth. What bothered me the most was the conflict. That he just takes off after she says "I love you" with no explanation. He refuses her calls, won't call or text her back. This goes on for 2 months. 2 MONTHS! All he had to do was have one conversation with her to explain what he was going through. And what made it worse for me is that SHE had to track HIM down. He should've been the one to go after HER, since he hurt her so badly. Felt backwards to me. Also, I really detest instant forgiveness. Especially after 2 months of nothing. Boo.

Complex characters and real situations. Good handling of PTSD and the complexities of those demons. In the end love does conquer all.

Hearts in Darkness Book Two A few months after their elevator incident, Makenna and Caden are still in like. It is the beginning of the holiday season and Makenna brings Caden to her family's Thanksgiving celebration. It doesn't go as planned when her former fiance shows up with Makenna's brother. With his anxiety and depression issues, Caden is overwhelmed by the idea that she could do better without him. Grab your tissues, because this book tackles a lot of hard issues. It is heartbreaking, uplifting and everything in between.

I finished Hearts in Darkness and was so happy when I found out about this book. This book is a full length book and it was fabulous! I wish there was more to this story!

Makenna have now been together for two months, and while things are going well, the perspective of going to spend Thanksgiving weekend with Makenna’s family makes Caden panic, and one things leads to another before Caden returns to the place he thought he was forgetting. His happiness a state of mind he can ever look forward to? LOVE IN THE LIGHT is the superb follow-up to Laura Kaye’s masterpiece Hearts in Darkness, and it is as compelling as the previous book, although in a very different way. I cried a lot and not because of silly things. Laura Kaye made me feel all of Caden’s turmoil, his pain, his anxiety; it hurt. Laura Kaye’s writing has never been better; it’s more nuanced, subtler, and she delves deeply into Caden’s psyche. With each book, Laura Kaye demonstrates all the facets of her extraordinary talent, and LOVE IN THE LIGHT is just one proof. Not to be missed! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I read Hearts In Darkness and I loved it. Then Love In The Light came out and wow it was great. Caden and Makenna were great. For me this was a very emotional book. It was that good. I would recommend this book. It has everything you want in a great romance book.

NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 Love in the Light is a great follow up story to Hearts in Darkness. If you have not read Hearts in Darkness you really need to start there. Love in the Light picks up a few months after Hearts in Darkness end. With Caden and Makenna navigating their new relationship. With the way that these two meet I would not expect that the rest of their journey would be an easy one. Caden has so many demon from his past that it sometimes makes it hard for him to see any future. Makenna is all sunshine and rainbow. She is the person that all of us need in our life. There is a lot that happens in Love in the Light that made me fall in love with Caden and Makenna all over again. I laughed, I cried and I wanted to slap Caden upside the head a few times. Oh and I love Mckenna's family (will maybe not Ian)!!! I truly hope that this is not the last time we will see these two. Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book from InkSlinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This review is my own opinion and not a paid review.

I have read many books by Laura Kaye and the very first was Hearts in Darkness, the introduction to Makenna and Caden. I honestly don't know how many times I have read that book and it is one of my go-to books when I need the comfort of my old friends. Love in the Light is the sequel and truly a delightful conclusion - though I'm sorry to see the story end. When one is as fond of the main characters as I am it was a hard read for much of the book. There was a lot of pain, confusion, loss and tears (mine) on this journey of growth and discovery, but in the end, the prize was worth the pain. We get to know more about Makenna's family, meet some critically important people from Caden's past and discover that Caden has the boss of the century. I thank the author for giving me a very satisfactory HEA.

“Then it’s you and me, ‘til the end. In the darkness and in the light.” …. “You and me, ‘til the end,” he repeated.” These two lines from Laura Kaye’s Love in the Light, the duet book to her Hearts in Darkness book, encompasses both books for me and the story/love that is Caden and Makenna. The way Laura Kaye tells this story of overcoming old hurts and learning to trust not only themselves but each other, and to trust in their love and their future together, gripped me by my heart to my core. She draws you in and as you read. You are right there with Caden and Makenna, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, sometimes immersed in their love and sometimes wanting to shout at both of them, but always knowing that they belong together. These two books are not read once only books. They are read again and again books. Laura Kaye makes us all want what Caden and Makenna have together. So, I reread and love Caden and Makenna and their story all over again. Well written love stories never get old. left by cwlcl

Laura Kaye has outdone herself. This story hits you in all the feels. The continuation of Caden and Makenna's story did not disappoint. After meeting in a broken down elevator, the two become a pair. Following their path with the twists and turns of a "real" relationship was amazing. I love the way Makenna calls Caden on all his doubts and insecurities. I definitely recommend this one.

I loved the first book and was excited to learn of the sequel. But I felt it was just okay. Although I loved the characters, there was just too much self pity. I understand that this was a journey that Caden had to take, but it was just too much...too repetitve and at times, too disjointed. I found myself skipping pages.

Caden & Makenna's story continues! This sequel to Hearts in Darkness does not disappoint. All fans of Caden & Makenna wanted to know - what happens next?? Here is your answer! Laura Kaye continues her wonderful story of the couple we are all pulling for. You know that Caden is damaged because of his traumatic childhood experience. This story shows how Caden works through these things and how he finds that he is deserving of Makenna's love. Going into this book, I knew there had to be conflict in order to get to the happily ever after. I admit I was scared to see what the conflict may be - but it was all perfect! The sadness and the happiness were equally needed and loved! Thank you, Laura Kaye, for giving us all more of Caden & Makenna!

Reviewed by Angela and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog I vote Love In The Light by Laura Kaye to be the MOST long-awaited sequel ever! After the release of Hearts of Darkness in 2011, Kaye fans has been hounding her for a follow-up of Caden and MaKenna story. If you’ve read that book, you know that it’s well deserved. It took a long while, but the continuous requests for the next installment paid off. Laura Kaye finally gave in and gave her fans what they wanted. What I wanted. Caden and MaKenna had gotten to know each other in Heart of Darkness without reservations, but it wasn’t nearly enough time to really tell their story. In Love in the Light, we’ll get to finally know what happened after that extraordinary afternoon. Well, two months past and they have been inseparable, but the time has come for the next step of their relationship…meeting her family. Unfortunately, with Caden’s past of loss and sorrow, meeting Makenna’s family and ex-boyfriend will set off all kinds of emotions that will affect them dearly. Don’t get me wrong, his insecurities and vulnerabilities are justified and relatable. Unfortunately, his armor of tattoos and piercing will not be strong enough to shield him from his fears. He’s going to have to brave it. I was afraid that the expectations and anticipation have been so high for this book that Kaye might not deliver. I should’ve known better to doubt her ability to come through because she did a stellar job. I couldn’t be happier with the turnout of Jace and MaKenna’s story. Though there were new characters introduced in this book, I was told that there are no plans to continue this series…at this time. It’s a shame because Makenna’s brothers and even her dad are all very intriguing. Kaye is a busy bee with her Hard Ink Series and a new series called Raven Riders MC which scheduled to release in April. I won’t be surprised if she someday announces book three of this series is in the works. Sooner than later I hope.

If you read Hearts in Darkness by Laura Kaye you will NOT want to miss Love in the Light. It is the sequel and so, so, so good. You can probably read this story as a stand alone, but you will definitely want to read how they met in Hearts in Darkness. I love both of these books so hard. Love in the Light left me speechless at the end. I actually cried happy tears because it was so damn good and I was so joyful for a fictional couple! Caden and Makenna are such a power couple and you think that their love will be easy but it's not. In their relationship and this story there is joy, passion, admiration, respect, but also insecurities, fear, and heartbreak. Their story is about two people finding themselves before they truly find forever in each other. Kaye writes such emotion into her stories. My heart hurt while reading. I cried with the characters. I felt their joy. I was turned on when they were turned on. ;-) Love in the Light takes place over the holiday season in the winter and we are introduced to Makenna's family. They brought such personality to the story and we really got to know more about why Makenna is so loving and selfless. We also got to know Caden a bit more later in the book, however, that was through him hitting rock bottom which was heart wrenching to watch, but he needed to go through it. They both did. Sometimes when you come into a relationship with so much baggage you have to learn what to get rid of and what you can carry together. It's great when they figure this out. One thing that stood the test of time in the story is Caden and Makenna's love for one another, even when they were apart from each other. It's amazing to me how that was so bright throughout the story just in the actions of each character. Kaye does a phenomenal job at showing that instead of telling. She opened both of these characters' souls up to us and we felt it all. Love in the Light is a brilliant story. I don't think Kaye could have written a better sequel. The ending is perfect and leaves you with so much hope that spills over into real life. I highly, highly recommend you give both books a read.

This book was the perfect follow-up to "Hearts in Darkness". It was great to see Caden and Makenna and where they are now and how their relationship progresses. It also tackles a very difficult issue and handles it with superb style. I loved every minute of catching up with the two of them and I am so glad we got this ending to their already happy story!

When I read Hearts in Darkness last year, I fell in love with Makenna and Caden. I loved how their relationship developed after a few hours trapped in a situation (and an elevator) neither of them could escape from. Their story sucked me in and, while I was thrilled with the novella – it is absolutely one of the best I've ever read, especially considering I thought it was only ever intended to be a standalone – I always kinda wanted a little more of their story. I'm greedy like that. When I learned Laura was releasing a sequel, I was over the moon. I couldn't wait to get more of these two. And you know what? It was everything I wanted and more. I loved so much about Love in the Light, but I can't get into all of it because I refuse to ruin the experience for you. What I will say is that if you're a fan of Hearts and Darkness and, of course, Makenna and Caden, you NEED to read it. It's such an honest portrayal of what comes next in a relationship. It's not all easy – I shed more than a couple tears over this novella. It was beautifully-written and I was entirely wrapped up in it from the very first page. I loved being back with these two characters and watching them truly become part of each other's lives. There were some wonderful scenes with Caden being brought into Makenna's family and some sweet and sexy times with the couple themselves. There were things that were hard to read because I do not enjoy watching a character I love struggle. But one of my favorite scenes was a really special one with Caden and an important person from his past. It totally punched me in the feels. I really can't say enough about how much I loved everything about Love in the Light. If you read Hearts in Darkness, buy this one right now. Chuck aside anything else and jump in. Just be prepared for the feels. If you've not yet read Hearts in Darkness, you should do something about that ASAP. You can binge read the two novellas and I know you will love them just as much as I did. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

What a wonderful story!!! This story is what we get from an author when we demand she write the HEA for a couple that we all fell in love with. We should have known… should have been ready to delve into the background of Caden and why he is afraid of the dark… I had no idea the emotions and turmoil that she would drag me through but this journey and healing was a long time coming for Caden. It was a path that he had to take himself, one that no one could take for him or make him face before he was ready. It’s funny how love will make you strong enough to be a better person for the one you love but to become that person Caden had to put himself and Makenna, and by proxy us, through hell first. I think I cried from about 66% until the end! Laura Kaye gives us a fantastic, sensitive telling/handling of a tough and often misunderstood condition that affects so many people – depression. Read this story. Read about Caden and Makenna and how Love leads him to the Light and the HEA that these 2 so deserved! Grade A

4.25 stars---LOVE IN THE LIGHT is the second installment in Laura Kaye’s contemporary, adult HEARTS IN DARKNESS erotic romance series focusing on paramedic Caden Grayson, and accountant Makenna James. LOVE IN THE LIGHT should not be read as a stand alone as there is too much information imparted in the first installment HEARTS IN DARKNESS. Told from dual third person perspectives (Makenna and Caden) LOVE IN THE LIGHT is the continuing story about Makenna and Caden who met two months earlier when the elevator in which they were standing stalled for close to four hours. In the dark, Makenna discovered her elevator mate suffered with horrendous claustrophobia as a result of a fatal car crash when Caden was fourteen years old that killed his mother and younger brother, and left Caden trapped until someone finally came to his rescue. LOVE IN THE LIGHT looks at the affects of PTSD, depression and the guilt Caden suffers with survivor’s remorse, and the loss of family and the people he loved. LOVE IN THE LIGHT is a sexually erotic and emotional story line centered around the holidays, and one man’s inability to let go of the past. Caden is a paramedic whose PTSD from the car crash years before begins to overpower his emotional stability, and what he believes is, his fragile hold on the woman he loves. He hides behind numerous tattoos and piercings, that add to the scars as reminders of the past. We watch as Caden is pulled, once again, into the darkness –a darkness he may not be able to overcome. Laura Kaye captures the essence of one broken man; two souls who cling to one another but are torn apart through guilt and memories; and three hearts that will move forward towards a happily ever after. We are introduced to Makenna’s extended close-knit family including her over protective brothers and ever loving father. The James brothers need their own happily ever afters. And we can’t forget the fellow fire fighters and paramedics who stand by their friend and member of their crew. LOVE IN THE LIGHT is a passionate love story; a heartbreaking and painful reminder that the human mind is fallible; that the destructive nature of insecurity can lead us towards another path. The premise is engaging and dramatic; the characters are compelling and real; the romance is emotional and intense.

I must preface by saying I don’t usually read books about adults in their 20s , but when I see Laura Kaye as the author, I do not hesitate to consider the book. I have read her HARD INK series, and was hoping that this one , would at least meet up to my expectations of her writing. Also concerned that I had not read the 1st book in the series. But never fear, she not only makes the references to the previous storyline so you are not lost, but she writes a superb follow up story. Others will give you a summary of the love story between MaKenna and Caden, so I will not repeat that here. Because this book is not only about that love but about how life experiences, tragedies and our perception of them, molds us for better or worse. The insecurities of Caden are not uncalled for , and as we read along , our heart breaks not only for his losses, but also that he has to deal with PTSD and feels alone. Still, he is a survivor, and that is what MaKenna sees in him. She loves him, understand him , even if he doesn’t feel he is worthy of her . You will cry, you will struggle with them and you will want them to be victorious, because appearances can be deceitful, but love, and support , can overcome all. Hope that Ms Kaye considers extending the series. Would love to know how MaKenna’s brothers develop and find love, especially Patrick.

Loved this sequel to Caden and McKenna's story. If you wanted more of Caden and McKenna this book is a must read:) McKenna is the light in Caden's soul and gave him hope. But sometimes the darkness becomes too much and sucks you in and dims that light. Caden has come along way with his anxiety and PTSD left from the accident when he was 14yrs old. Finding love when he had accepted that he would be alone for ever was too much for Caden. Mckenna loves Caden more than anything and is not willing to give up on love even when Caden tries to. Can Mckenna's love be strong enough to bring light back into Caden's darkness? Will Love conquer all? Find out in "Love in the Light" ! This book is full of emotion, angst, romance all blended together in a terrific read that I didn't want to put down. (copy provided for opportunity to review)
