About the Author

Lyssa Layne is first, and foremost, the proud momma to her precious daughter, AR. In addition to working full-time and being a mommy to AR, she is also a wife, an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, a runner, blogger, and an infertility survivor.

Having watched one too many medical dramas and being inspired by author Rachelle Ayala, who introduced her to the world of indie writing, Lyssa decided to try her hand at writing a romance story. Lyssa Layne set out to tell a story of love and loss and how love overcomes all. Or, that is what I think the story is about. Dr. Katy Malone meets Nick in the emergency room and falls hard for him rather quickly in spite of her vow to stay away from men, from love and from firemen especially. Katy and Nick have a rather rapid courtship with few problems to overcome. Nick’s friends at the fire station are like brothers. They are there for one another and for the families of firemen in their firehouse through thick and thin. Katy experiences a roller coaster of emotions through the book but eventually ends up happy after she has dealt with what life throws her way. This book was given to me for the author for review purposes.

This is book one in the Burning Lovesick series.  I gave the book 5 stars. This is Nick and Katy's story.  Katy is afraid to love, every time she loves someone they die. So the only right thing to do is leave her fiance'.. She dated and loved this man for more then a decade of her life and leaves him because she is afraid that anyone she loves will die.  That is until Nick comes into her life and like the wind Katy is swept up into a relationship with this firefighter. Her father was a firefighter and she has sworn she will never date one. EVER. But Nick changes that and has Kate head over heals in a millisecond.  But will she stay happy. Can she get past the reasons she has decided not to give her heart out in the first place?  Follow Katy's journey as she learns to love and be loved. She learns to let love in again. A place where she tries to find her happiness with a man she never thought she would give her love to. You will fall for Katy and Nick's love instantly. Almost as fast as Katy fell for Nick. Nick is very unique and he knows what he wants. When he sees Katy he knows she IS the one. AND he does everything in his power to prove to her that she is it and he is willing to do anything for her. This was an amazing story .. That had me laughing, swooning and yes crying. Come on Katy's ride with her. You won't regret it.

Lyssa Layne's debut novel, Love is a Fire, was a treat. Its characters experienced a once in a lifetime, all-consuming romance that few of us get to experience. Her characters feel deeply and left me feeling like I had been through an emotional wringer. Love is a fire was an easy read and a real page turner. There were some editorial mistakes I picked up on, but nothing that kept me from understanding the plot. I am excited for the next book in the series! *This book is sexually explicit*

This is a heartbreakly amazing book. Its taken me a few days to write my review because it was so emotional but I loved every minute of this book. The story, the characters, the love the brothers have for one another, the relationship between the characters, but most of all the love between Nick and Katy is real, they are totally adorable together.  Lyssa really knows how to suck you in and spit you out. I will say, make sure you have a truck load of tissues handy

When you read the decription, there's doesn't seem to be anything that would make this book stand out from the thousands of other books out there. What's bewildering is that you start reading and somehow it sucks you in until suddenly you've reached the end. The plot isn't terribly original and there is insta love involved, which I normally have trouble believing. But somehow it all works. And it works very well! I think it's because the characters feel like real people, and you care about them. It's not perfect, there are some minor typographical errors and the ending is a bit abrupt. But, I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am hoping for the speedy release of book two. Please note Ms. Layne was kind enough to gift a copy of this book to me, and in return I have left this honest review.

Love is a Fire is not a book which attempts to apologise for itself; it is an honest romance and it is proud! However, if you are not a fan of insta-love then perhaps this is not the book for you. Lyssa Layne's story does follow the formula of a NA contemporary romance, but she adds her own twists. Both protagonists have experienced grief and in particular we understand Katie's reluctance to enter into a relationship with Nick, but here we have a man who is tired of one night stands and firmly believes in 'the One', with his own dreams of a family and a settled future. Love is a Fire is also different in the way that the story concentrates on the emotional connection between these characters, rather than the physical one. Yes, they do have sex, buy Lyssa Layne does not use this as a chance to be unnecessarily explicit with her language just to conform to genre stereotypes. Whilst reading the story I felt that it was good, but perhaps only a book I would rate 3 hearts until I reached a certain point late on, where Lyssa Layne delivers a 'BAM' to her reader. Up to this plot twist we have dealt with many different emotions from the characters, but now we not only contend with a multitude of different ones from them, but also our own. Love is a Fire does not end with the fanfare of other NA contemporary romances I have read, but subtlety, leaving us and the characters with a tentative hope. Lyssa Layne's writing style is certainly different from that of many popular authors, but it works perfectly for the kind of story she tells, and I am anticipating the second book in the Burning Lovesick series. I received this as a complimentary review copy, but this has had no influence on my opinion.

Holy cow, I could NOT put this book down! I got so involved with the story that I blocked out the rest of what needed to be done around my house. My kids and husband looked at me in shock when I got a little to involved and started yelling at my kindle. Seriously this is a wonderful story, I hope there is lots more to come.  Dr Katy Malone has sworn off dating men from the fire department. After losing her dad, a member of the FDNY, she can't take the pain of the constant worry and loss of losing someone else. Once engaged to a fellow colleague she has decided she needs to concentrate more on her medical stuff instead of men and love.  Hot stuff, Nick Garrity is a fireman and finds himself in Dr. Katy's care and seeing her just one time isn't enough. Nick is getting ready to turn 30 and wanted to have a wife and family by then but sadly no one can come close to what he is looking for until Katy. One look at her and he knows she is the one that will be his wife someday.  This story has so much emotion in it and you will find yourself crying, laughing and screaming at these people. I felt part of the story and didn't want the end to come. I love Nicks Family, especially his mom and dad, they are just amazing.

* I received an ebook in exchange for an honest review. * The debut novel Love is a Fire by Lyssa Layne is a truly remarkable book. She has knocked it out of the park with this one and it has writing style, flow and storyline that hints at a much more experienced writer.  I loved this book from start to finish and neglected everything on my To Do list to read this in one sitting.  It was one of those books that every time you told yourself you were going to stop after this chapter it hooked you in and you couldn't put it down.  This book had it all from romance,  drama, jealousy, amazing friends, and hot, sexy firemen.  The author did an amazing job with the character descriptions and I was able to immediately connect with Katy. She's faced a lot loss, despair and heartache but has still moved forward with her life, not letting the bad things get her down or set her back.  You cheer for Katy to have a happy ending after all that she has endured, and you just might think that she will get it, however, just when you think you know what is going to happen you are surprised by the next chapter. It is an amazing story with a lot of twists and turns and a surprise that you would not have expected. Make sure you have a box of tissues nearby as you are reading this, as I can almost guarantee that you will need them.  Make sure you add this to your TBR list, it will make a great beach/pool read! I am looking forward to the next book in the series as the cliffhanger will leave you asking questions long after you finish reading!  ***Review has been done in conjunction with Nerd Girl Official. ***

Just the book I was looking, easy read, yet with a lot of action, emotions, and hot romance! Book makes you realize how much a person will do when true love comes their way. After losing her firefighter father and vowing never to fall in love with a fireman, Dr. Katy's "love at first sight, fireman, Nick", wins her heart away. Once you start reading, you won't want to put it down, because a lot happens in one short year!

Favorite Quotes: “Katy quickly changed into scrubs shoving her jeans and sweater in the bottom of her locker. She finished lacing up her tennis shoes when Tiffany walked in and handed her a coffee. She took in the fragrant aroma of the caffeine, knowing she would need a lot of it to get through her shift. As she did, Tiffany glanced over Katy from top to bottom and grinned. “You got laid!” “She had barely entered the hallway when Jesse punched his arm. “You scored with the doctor!” “Nick let out a whoop and pushed her against the shower wall in the heat of the moment. He covered her mouth with his and she laughed into his kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck as they made out. She thought she had needed sex but realized she only needed Nick. He broke their embrace and looked into her eyes. “Katherine Olivia Malone, I love you.” “Why don’t you like me?” Jesse rolled his eyes and finished his beer as he muttered, “Women…” He started to walk away from her, but Katy grabbed “his wrist, taking him by surprise. “You’re his best friend. Don’t be a coward, tell me what you’re thinking.” Jesse stared at her hand gripping his wrist and then looked into her eyes. He stepped against her, trapping her against the bar, obviously trying to intimidate her. Katy straightened her shoulders, not moving her eyes off his. She wanted him to know she wasn’t about to back down. “I’m a doctor, Jesse. He’s a firefighter. It’s obviously not about money or power.” Katy knew she sounded cocky as she said that, but she had no idea what else Jesse’s concern could be. “He wants more than you can give him.” This book was given in exchange for an honest review.  This is a story about a hot sexy firefighter named Nick who has decided it is time to find the right woman and settle down and he will not settle for anything less. He is determined to find her and just not anyone will do. One day he is at the hospital with one of the firefighters who was hurt and he knew with one look he had found her and she would be his wife soon the only problem was she didn’t know it yet.   Dr. Katy (KO) Malone was in her third year of residency and was determine that nothing would stop her. Katy has been through a lot in her life, first her mom when she was very young and then her dad a few years ago. She said she would never lose anyone else she loved so she called off her wedding and gave back her ring to her fiancée who was a fellow doctor. Now she walks into a hospital room and sees a man that makes her heart and stomach flutter. But she is determined to keep her distance. Except Nick have other ideas.  This is a story I don’t want to give anymore away. There is romance, love, jealousy, sorrow, many hot and sexy firefighters, and family you never would expect unless you’re a firefighter. It is an amazing story with a lot of twists and turns and a surprise that you would not have expected. Make sure when you read this story you have a box of tissues. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Wow. Just wow. I'm not an avid reader, simply because with a toddler, who would have the time. However, on a whim I read Love is a Fire and I was hooked just a few pages in. I finished it in no time (confession: I was obsessed with the story and couldn't put it down), but the story lingered on. I thought about Katy and Nick for hours after I finished reading. Thank goodness this one is just the first in a series! Whatever you're looking to read, stop here. Love is a Fire is fantastic and I highly recommend it. Now, if only the next one would come out so I can see what happens next!

What do you need for a perfect summer weekend? I'll tell you what I need. A bitter-sweet romance, a little bit of drama, and a few sexy firefighters. Not on friendly terms with FDNY? There's "Love is a Fire" to the rescue. Hold that fire hose, 'cause you gonna need it. In Lyssa Lane's debut novel, "Love is a Fire", there's a little bit of everything. Likable and feisty doctor Katy? Check. A cast of likable supporting characters that make you miss your own family? Check. Twisted storyline that makes you wishing you thought of that plot development yourself? Check! Oh, and did I mention those sexy firefighters? It's just not fair that one woman gets two of them, plus a successful doctor at her knees (don't you love those testosterone-pumped face-off scenes?). "Love is a Fire" is a well-written, emotional story with just enough unpredictable twists to keep you guessing. Who will Katy end up with? How will the men work it out? Will there be a happily-ever after? I loved this debut novel from Lyssa!
