Our family tries to have family devotions as many nights as possible during the week. Usually we skip Sunday and Wednesday nights because we are already at church, but we do our best to include this as a family tradition the rest of the time. Since Rose (who is almost 12) was just an infant we started doing this by reading children's devotional books. We have read many, many books and were excited to have the chance to go through Love Letters from God: Bible Stories for a Girl's Heart. All of the girls have really enjoyed it, but Beth (10) and Grace (7) have enjoyed it the most. It is written to elementary aged girls and gives them the perspective of what God would want them to know from many of the wonderful historical accounts of women presented in the Scriptures. The retelling of the stories is accurate. Although some details may be skipped over, it is not inaccurate. I appreciate that the reference to the original account in Scripture is given. After each story there is a sweet letter as if written by God to the little girl reading. Grace in particular likes this part. She always wants to be the one to read it aloud. It is sweet and reflects exactly the promises we hold dear in God's Word. The only small issue I had with this was the extra verse given. I love it when more Scripture is included, but sometimes the verses were reworded so much from the original verse the meaning felt different from what was intended originally. I do understand younger children may have a hard time understanding everything in the Bible, but I think we ought to give children the opportunity to grow and learn. They often surprise us in what they can comprehend and eve if they do not, there is nothing wrong with still taking the time to teach and explain. Eventually they will! Overall I thought this was a very sweet book. I would recommend it to families with elementary aged daughters. We have been reading the extra verse straight from the Bible instead of reading the abridged version from the book. This has worked nicely and takes care of the only issue I have. I hope you will take some time to check it out for a little girl you know! Disclaimer: I was given a copy of this book as a part of BookLook bloggers. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I love reading with children, especially my nieces (and of course my nephew, but he’s only one, so not as into it :). I really enjoyed what Glenys Nellist did with her first of this series, Love Letters From God and jumped at the chance to share about the one geared towards girls. What a great book addition to have for the young girls in your life! I love what each section provides. There’s the story of a woman from the bible and the lessons we learn from them (from Eve to Rahab to Miriam to the poor widow to Mary Magdalene). There’s a short verse, that if they are old enough, is perfect to memorize. Each also concludes with a “letter from God” that is full of encouragement and space to personalize the letters. Finally, there’s also space at the end for your little girl to write her own love letter to God. So sweet! What are some books you love reading with your children/nieces/nephews/grandchildren? (Thank you to the author and Zonderkidz for a copy of the book. All views expressed are my own.) Love Letters from God: Bible Stories for a Girl’s Heart has wonderful reminders of God’s love for us and how He has shown it. It not only uses actual letters from God but also Bible stories to back up what He’s told us since time began. This a great book to share as a devotional with the girls you love or even as a storybook to reinforce what is already known… for you and the little ones.

My daughter and I have both checked out this cool book for girls. She likes that it has stories about girls and women from the bible that she has learned about in Sunday School and Awana. She always gets excited when she recognizes one they have just studied. She also loves to read the personal letters from God to her. She is currently using it for her morning devotional read. I like that it catches my daughter's attention, that she enjoys reading it and can learn something from it. I also like the little notes at the end of each story that add a personal touch to it. A love letter from God to her that includes her in the story, and makes it applicable to her life. This book is beautifully illustrated and pretty for girls. The colorful pictures are so eye catching! There are multiple stories of girls or women from the Bible and how God loved them and proved his love for them. Each story ends with a personal love letter from God to your girl. And the book itself ends with a giant page in which your girl can write her own love letter TO God. I think that is so special. Our children need to learn to love GOD, not just to accept His love for them. Reading through the book should make them aware of all He has done for them, so they can see all the reasons why they should love him back. I also liked that each story included the passage of Scripture in the Bible where you could find the story. There was a separate verse in an image somewhere on the page also. I can't say I found anything about this book I really didn't like. The more I browsed the pages, the more I liked what I saw. My recommendation for my own daughter was to read through the whole book, then write her personal love letter to God. I would recommend this book for any girl ages 7-11. We received this book from Zondervan, Booklook and Handlebar to read for free. We were not asked to review it positively. And all opinions are our own.

Beautifully illustrated and written, this book is a treasure for girls of all ages. Various Bible stories involving female characters are described in simple language. These include Bible characters from the Old and New Testament. Each of these stories takes up a left and right page. On these pages are illustrations, the Bible heroin's name, an inspirational Bible quote, and a "letter from God." Each of the "letters from God" are flip-style and have a blank for the reader's name to be written in. The messages sent to girls are that God cares for them, God is enough, not to worry, not to stress, to pray for troubles, and to trust in God. At the very end of the book is a flip-style blank letter for the reader to write their very own letter to God. The book is hardcover with full-cover illustrations and lettering. The reading level is fifth grade and higher.

I love the premise of Love Letters from God: Bible Stories for a Girl’s Heart! An inspirational and fun book for young girls aged 4-8 that showcases females in the Bible and how their stories relate to the young reader’s lives. The set-up of the various Biblical stories is neat and organized. Each section consists of two pages, including a Bible story, verse, lovely illustration, and a flip-up love letter from God. Each letter has a blank space to fill in a name to make it personalized. Some of the female Bible characters included are Eve, Miriam, Rahab, Deborah, and Hannah, (plus many more.) The section titles are uniform, stating the descriptions and bond they share with the reader, such as: The First Girl, The Thirsty Girl, The Happy Girl, etc. I can’t give this book enough praise. It is adorable, shares lovely inspiring messages, and teaches Biblical stories that empower young women. The letters are an added treat to make the messages more pertinent and intimate, and the slipcovered hardback book is sturdy. The stories are inspiring and the illustrations are detailed and colorful. An added treat is on the last page, where a blank flip-up letter allows the reader to write her own love letter back to God. 5 Stars Cover: Love Title: Love Pages: 32 Publisher: Zonderkidz ISBN: 978-0310753285 I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via Handlebar.

First, the disclaimer. "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own." That done, LOVE LETTERS FROM GOD; BIBLE STORIES FOR A GIRL'S HEART is a sweet collection about biblical women who served God in some way. The stories are NOT biblically correct, but they are fictionalized, and they do make nice, heart-warming stories to read with your favorite daughter, grand-daughter, niece, god-daughter, or even a child you are providing child-care for. They include a letter "from God" that you can personalize for your child, and even an area in the book for your child to write their own letter to God.
