Reviewed by Rachel McGrath for Readers' Favorite Love and Other Monsters is a varied and eclectic collection of poetry collated by Kay B, Nina Brav, and Michelle Bishop. What was thoroughly enjoyable about this collection was, firstly, the way it was presented in three main sections: on the playground, keep digging, and should I dance? Throughout were clever illustrations that added to the ambiance of the collection, and I could ideally see this collection being aptly used by a variety of ages from teen, young adult to general adults. Each poem is distinctly different, enjoyable, imaginative and clever. The poets show their range of prose and imagination through different styles and ways of expressing their feelings and emotions. In Love and Other Monsters, the three different poets share their different voices in a way that explores feelings, experiences and ideals, with the overarching theme being ‘looking for love’ - whether you are young and carefree, naïve and open to new experiences, or have felt the pain of heartbreak and loss. It was a beautiful window into the heart and soul of these three poets and I enjoyed each page and each new poem, highlighting ones I will keep, cherish, and remember, and those that will leave me with a sense of understanding and compassion. I am positive that this collection - whether read as a whole or kept as reference for poetry and reflection in times when a reader needs it most - will be well received by the public, used as examples in schools and learning, and perhaps even improvised in dramatic contexts for learning and performance purposes.
