This was a very short, fun read. Loving Emmi follows the journey of Morgan (aka Baby Morgan aka Emmi); a rottweiler puppy who was sadly neglected and who knows what else by a breeder. After being rescued by a rescue organization and then being “fostered” by the author and her husband; Emmi’s journey begins. I have read many of the reviews for this book and was worried I would need the tissues. While I will admit there were parts that were sad, I found myself more angry than sad. It is hard to wrap your head around all the things that happened to Emmi, what Emmi had to endure, and the life that Emmi led. One of my favorite parts of the story were the “point of views” from Izzy and Emmi. They never failed to put a smile on my face and I have no doubt that a conversation with either one of them would be just like that. If you are looking for a short read that will put a smile on your face and love in your heart, this is it!

Although this is the second book in the series, it is easily read as a stand-alone story. However, having read this one, I'm now curious to go back and read the first one, to learn more about all of the dogs the author has had in her life. Morgan (aka Emmi) had a difficult life before she came to live with Barbara and Ray, some of which can only be guessed as her former owners would never admit to it. She comes to them in need of extensive operations and care, which they willingly provide without a second thought. What is amazing and inspirational to me, aside from the fact that these two humans should be granted sainthood for what they do for animals, is the way that Emmi has turned out. With a start like hers, you couldn't really blame her if she had an angry streak and was difficult to socialize. But, thanks to the love she has experienced in her forever home, she is a sweet, loving, goofball (I've fallen in love with her just from watching some of her videos on her Facebook page after I finished the book!). I enjoyed the fact that part of this story is told from the perspectives of Emmi and Izzy. Those segments are so touching and so realistic that I'm glad the author included them. The entire book just oozes with unconditional love, and is not to be missed! **I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.**

While you may think, from all you've just read about Loving Emmi, that this is only a book for pet lovers, I want to recommend this book to all parents-to-be. While Brunner talks all about the lessons learned while dealing with Emmi, those lessons are perfect for those about to be parents. We all know children do not come with an owner's manual. Most of parenting, while it can be read about, is trial and error. The lessons learned from Brunner's furbabies transfer to real life babies as well. I think the most important lesson I gleaned from Loving Emmi is to be the best advocate for your baby - fur or human. Infants, toddlers and children have no one to speak for them. You have to be the advocate for them. You need to educate yourself the best you can and then make sure professionals do what is best for your child. Professionals - whether veterinarians or pediatricians - may know what is best but that is not based on your individual child or pet. You need to educate the professional on your child or pet. This book is about to become my favorite baby shower gift. I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

Loving Emmi is a lovely story about how this dog made such a massive impact to her family and community. They certainly bended to keep and save her. You will fall for Emmi, too and love reading about how she connects with others! I participated in a Beck Valley Book Tour and received this book for free. All opinions are mine.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I've already added the first volume of Dog-ma to my Amazon 'to buy' list. I'm an avid animal lover and the way they cherish this furry life and those of their previous pets makes me heart swell. I have a rescue cat named Izzy and can see so much of her in the shenanigans of Izzy the Terrier I couldn't help but laugh. Loving Emmi is the heart wrenching story of a seriously injured rottweiler puppy and the humans who refuse to give up on her. Barbara and Ray move mountains for Emmie with the help of their social media family. Despite veterinarians pushing to euthanise her from the very beginning they fought for her right to live. From the way they hand feed her, comfort her through difficult nights to they way they swim with her and adapt toys so she can have a full life, this book goes a long way to restore my faith in humanity. The unbreakable spirit of Barbara and Ray coupled with the kind hearted animal lovers who all donated to Emmis cause with money towards vets bills, advice and anonymous gifts through the post is simply beautiful. The narrative switches from Barbara's point of view to Izzy and Emmi's and one chapter in particular in Emmi's voice brought me to tears. When you read the book you will know exactly the one I mean. Highly recommended to anyone who loves animals. I'm off to join the facebook page and scroll through the photos of the puppy who stole my heart this saturday afternoon. I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.

Emmi will break your heart at the same time fall in-love with her The title itself is what you learned while reading this book. It is the most emotional animal book I ever read. No wonder my Summer Babe let me finish reading the book because she gets so emotional. She feel bad for Emmi and the other dogs because of her health conditions. I finished Loving Emmi within a day after reading it. I cried so many times while reading this book. Emmi will break your heart at the same time fall in-love with her. She is on every special dog. My hats off to her human Mom, Dad and furry sister Izzy for their unconditional love.My hats off also to all her doctors, caretaker and especially her Aunt Connie. My hats off also to all the people who donated to make Emmi lived longer and enjoy life. This book will teach you to learn your furry dogs even better unconditionally. To our Maggie(the Pitbull) and Molly(the rat terrier) we loved you even more girls. Thank you for showing us your unconditional love too. This book is so emotional. It shows hope and unconditional love for our furry animals. It taught us not to give up, keep on fighting when life is at the top of the difficult time. Prayers also is very helpful. Support of friends near and far really helps as well. My Summer Babe, Maggie, Molly and myself highly recommends this book not only for animal lovers but readers who fight and not lost hope. You can survive just like Emmi. Disclosure: I received the paperback copy in exchange of my honest review.

The title of this book, Loving Emmi, could also be the title of this review, that is if you are a fan of Barbara Boswell Brunner’s writing. And, it would be hard to be a dog lover and not be. As a memoir writing instructor who loves dogs and writing about dogs, I am also aware of some of the perceptions out there in the world of memoir writing that books about animals may be a little “light” in comparison to say the next Wild or Dry, memoirs that explore serious topics of exploration or addiction. But there is a joy in Boswell Brunner’s writing even when she is tackling difficult topics like her dog’s death or little Emmi’s suffering. Her voice is so comfortable that her love of dogs becomes contagious and the reader soon finds themselves engulfed in her world. My favorite passages are when you get to hear the story from the point of view of little Emmi or Izzy. While these passages could easily become silly or overly sentimental, they strike just the right tone, welcoming us into the worlds of these little animals. I don’t want to say too much about the story because people should discover for themselves, but if you haven’t read Boswell Brunner’s work before you should give it a try and if you already have this is the ideal sequel to her Dog-Ma, The Zen of Slobber. You will fall in love with her new little pack as much as you did the old. An enjoyable read, despite the occasional tears!

Knowing how much I loved Barbara's first book, and then losing our beloved dog Babygirl, I was not sure I could handle another heart touching and heart rendering furbaby story. BUT I did read this new one! Trust me... you will not be able to control yourself as you dive into this blended family with all the ups and down. Determination is the key with the family and it is very important for one puppy. A puppy that most said to let go due to her broken jaw. Overcoming this type of injury takes everything, but overcoming Izzy (the older furbaby of the family) takes some work also. Barbara and Ray are spectacular to take on such a task in bringing this young dog into their lives knowing the work it will take to get Emmi healthy. I just love the different perspectives of everyone, including Emmi and Izzy. Even if you do not have a dog, you will just love this story of surviving.

I'm a fan of Barbara Boswell Brunner"s work, so I was happy to read Loving Emmi. Loving Emmi pulls at your heart-strings and evokesa flurry of emotions. This book shows how a loving online community and a family came together to save Emmi and portrays a family willing to do whatever it takes to save this blessed dog.

If you want to have your faith in human kindness renewed or strengthened, this is the book to do it. From the author's own actions to the community that supported her and her husband as they worked valiantly to give Emmi a chance at life, there are plenty of examples in this book to assure you that compassionate and caring individuals abound. If you are an animal lover, this book will take you through a broad spectrum of emotions from heartwrenching sadness to exuberant joy.

I’m going to start by saying, I’m glad to know that my 4 & 5 pound Chihuahua’s, Izzy and Jingles, aren’t the only ones that tend to howl when emergency vehicles have their sirens blaring. Turns out Morgan does the same thing also! I was excited to read this book because Rottweilers are a dog that I have always had some fear of. I have no reason to have that fear, I think, because I haven’t ever had any occurances with this breed of dog, but big dogs kind of scare me, especially if I haven’t known them since they were puppies, but anytime my husband has ever mentioned getting a Rottweiler, I have always turned that idea away pretty quickly, simply because of the breed. So I wanted to read this story, since the main dog is a Rottweiler! When Emmi was still a very young puppy that was still with her doggy mother, she sustained a bite to the jaw and ended up with a broken jaw. The breeder didn’t do anything with her, and Emmi ended up in a foster home with Barbara and Ray. They decided they couldn’t just send her to another home, so they adopted her, which I think is AMAZING of them because of all the surgeries and stuff Emmi would have to endure in her life. There aren’t many people out there that I know that would do that, and I just think it’s awesome of them. There were many times while reading this book, I had to laugh. Emmi and Izzy “write” to the readers in their perspectives, and while Izzy is a Terrier, she could be a twin to my Chihuahua named Isabella (Izzy for short). Their mannerisms are so much alike it’s not even funny. If my Izzy could talk, I pictured her saying so many of the same things that Izzy in the book “said”. There’s one part of the book, where Emmi comes into heat for the first time, and it’s mentioned that they get boys XL underwear and put them on her backwards for her tail to have room to wiggle. I am assuming that the reason for the need for underwear is because she’s not properly able to clean herself as a dog with a truly functioning tongue would be able to. Which I understand. Dogs in heat could most definitely be messy! This book is definitely a must read for animal lovers. It tugged at my heart strings, made me laugh, made me cry. You can tell they have a HUGE love for fostering dogs. You need to read this book if you’re a dog lover, or even an animal lover. You will not regret it!

If you are an animal lover, especially with a soft spot for dogs, you should read this book. I can see it being very controversial. The author agrees. This family committed to doing everything they could for a special needs puppy, sight unseen. Even before they fell in love and adopted her. While it can be read as a stand alone, this book continues the memoir begun in Dogma, with the trials and emotions of the end of the original Morgan's life. Are the events that followed a divine sign that the choices the author and her husband made were meant to be? Given to do it again, knowing what they do now, would they make similar choices? That is not the way life works so those questions can never be answered. Loving Emmi is told in alternating viewpoints, both human and canine, both factual and subjective. What baby Emmi must endure is heartbreaking yet one family and thousands of supportive virtual followers find the beauty and occasional humor in her life journey. The controversy arrives on various levels and at different points throughout this journey. Emmi's story, as well as those of her canine siblings, will tug at your heart, make you think and I bet your life will be forever changed after reading this book. I did receive this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a heartwarming tale of the resilience of a dog to overcome multiple disabilities and the efforts of the owners and their internet friends to pay for multiple operations. That this dog led a relatively long and happy life is due to veterinary science and the love of his owners--they would not give up! I have to put this here--you see I love ALL animals and there is one sentence in this story which totally upset me--when you read this book which I think you should--I am pretty sure you will figure out what it was (and still is).

This is a heartfelt true story of how Emmi, an injured Rottweiler pup, came into the author’s life, and the ups and downs that ensued. Reading the story of Emmi had me laughing and crying along with the author. She did a wonderful job of conveying Emmi’s personality, as well as her adopted sister Izzy. The author and her husband have devoted everything to give Emmi more than just a quality of life. Their unconditional love truly has to be what kept Emmi going through all the trials she experienced. This was an amazing story about courage, strength, and most of all, uncompromising, unending, reciprocated love.
