I really enjoyed this "book". It could have been longer but characters and storyline was developed. I enjoyed it enough that I purchased the rest of the series and have read it. I will look for more by this author.

Cute story and very sweet. A good afternoon read, but a bit short. Could have been better written and made into a longer story.

The story has a lot of potential but the characters just didn't develop for me...

Historical Romance With Steamy Passion and Suspense! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by AnnMarie Oakes and it most certainly won't be my last! I loved every second of this sweet, tender and sensual historical romance! This was a quick read that kept me turning pages well into the night when I should have been sleeping!! I look forward to reading the rest of the books in The Ladies of Cascade Creek series!

This was an okay read for me. It is fast paced and I found the chemistry lacking. The story was good just wanted more both in story and development between the characters.

This is the second historical western romance that I have read. Once again, I found myself thoroughly engaged in the storyline. It was descriptive enough that you could imagine the cabin, the terrain, clothing, etc. Lucas was a strong, honest man, and Audra was a strong honest woman. I even liked the way Lilah reacted when her feelings were hurt. I normally pass on historical romances, but I realized that part of the reason I liked this book was due to the strong, independent nature of Audra. She did not allow her actions to be dictated by the mores of the era. I have only read this writer's historical western. I hope there is a book about Lilah.

The story was well written although in my opinion way to short. It is an easy read that keeps you engaged however I feel the story was going really good and then rushed through. It could have had more words and developed a little slower to make a much better read. It was a good read if you are looking for a short quick nice book.

This is my first book by this author. The book is about 100 pages; it is full of adventure. I thought the lead male was not allowed to accomplish very much on his own. It was not realistic for him to be able do ride and do work he did with such wounds. The romance was immediate and good. Ms. Oates, you should let the male lead be more talented and in charge.

Loving Lucas (The Ladies of Cascade Creek #1) by AnnMarie Oakes The Colorado Territory of the 1870s is a hard place for women by herself. Audra Canton's and her sister are on their own after their father died. The suitors in the area have an odd way of making a case: they keep shooting at them. Audra needs help learning to protect herself and her sister. Lucas Blake comes into the picture when she scares off a couple of suitors. Audra takes him on as a hired hand. He has a secret; he’s a lawman hot on the trail of a hardened criminal. Working the homestead is the perfect cover. Lucas has accidentally put Audra straight into the sights of a new, more deadly gun. Now Lucas and Audra must fight for their lives—and each other. I enjoyed this book about early Colorado. The lawman’s chase and what he thinks is most important leads him one way. That is until Audra is pulled into the middle of his hunt. She is taken and Lucas tracks where they took her. He hopes he gets to her in time. This is when what is important to him changes.

AnnMarie Oakes has written a wonderful story, it did not seem like a novella at all, I was so involved in the book it felt like a full length novel, there was nothing left out. The characters are interesting, and the setting of Cascade Creek is lovely to imagine living there. Audra and her sister Lilah, two tough ladies who are trying to carve out a living on their small farm, are doing a pretty good job of it, until one night out of the dark comes their mysterious hero Lucas, who chases off two drunken cowboys. Both sisters feel a spark for Lucas, but Lucas sees only Audra. Since I don't want to give the story away, I'll just say that this story has plenty of mystery, lots of adventure, some sparks flying, and a great ending. I hope you'll take my advice and read Loving Lucas. It's a keeper for me, one I will go back to and read again :)
