I discovered Leslie Tentler's books a few years ago now - she writes the Romantic Suspense that I love to read and I eagerly anticipate each new release. Low Tide is the 2nd book in Ms Tentler's Rarity Cove series but it does stand alone. Carter St Clair's career has skyrocketed since we met him in Before the Storm - he is a mega movie star, much in demand. Then one night it all implodes - he is seriously injured and he returns to Rarity Cove to recover in private away from the glare of the media. Quinn Reese's marriage has just broken down and she returns to her home town, Rarity Cove, to hide out from her abusive husband. She is offered a job by the St Clair's, to be Carter's physical therapist. At this stage in his recovery Carter is apathetic, morose and definitely needs a figurative kick up the bum - and Quinn is just the person to do it, although she is reluctant at first. They have a family history together - Quinn's deceased sister was married to Carter's brother - and they have a very brief personal history together which no one else knows about, when Carter was very selfish and cruel to her. I was looking forward to seeing how Carter would be in this book - having made some questionable decisions previously in Before the Storm that affected his family it was nice to see Ms Tentler torture him and then straighten him out a bit! This book sets the stage with the personal/romance first and then weaves in the suspense angle. It was well done - Ms Tentler is very good at writing sleight of hand, so whilst your attention is focused on one area another one is quietly brewing in the background. Reading a lot of romantic suspense I still enjoy being surprised! I also enjoyed the tentative friendship that built up between Quinn and Carter as his therapy progressed and he took the opportunity to take stock of his life and to make some positive changes. We also get to catch up with all the characters from Before the Storm and there were some unexpected developments there! Another great read from Ms Tentler.

Hollywood star Carter St. Clair and his girlfriend are attacked by a stalker .... he almost dies from the stab wounds, the girlfriend is killed. Going to Rarity Cove, South Carolina, to recover in private, to be closer to what family he has left, he is besieged by depression. Quinn Reese is a Physical Therapist, who escaped her abusive to-be-ex-husband to come to Rarity Cove to spend time with her mother and try to come to terms with the state of her marriage. The St. Clair family offers Quinn a job .. work with Carter ... only she and Carter have a history..one that no one knows anything about. They offer a good amount of money and as she is presently unemployed, she reluctantly agrees. As Carter heals, they become close. Until her husband shows up. He considers Quinn to be his property to do with as he wants. When her life is threatened, Carter jumps into the role of protector. I don't read a lot of romance, but I found this one to be well-written. I liked how Carter and Quinn worked to get over their past to become friends. I really enjoyed how the entire family related to each other. And I loved how the ex got his just desserts. The ending was a surprise ... didn't see that one coming.
