Luka's Quilt is an exceptional story with a setting exoctic enough to stimulate not only a child's mind, but a teacher's mind as well. This book is an excellent source for many activities that tie into other curriculums at any age level. I am using this book to demonstrate graphing in Math, conflict in Social Studies(Civil War), plant and animal life cycles in Science, and writing stories in Writing. All of this information from a colorful, informative book. All for my fourth grade class.

This is a heartwarming story that will capture the interest of young readers. It is a story of a special relationship between a granddaughter and her grandmother. It shows the young reader two important things. One thing it shows is how important tradition is in some cultures and the other is how to compromise the tradition if need be. The characters are well developed and it is easy for the reader to connect with the story. The illustrations are bright and colorful. It will capture the young reader¿s attention.
