Luminous by Kendra A Ziems

In the shadows lies the unknown; ones fate hidden within sheer unrelenting blackness. Within its cover, deception waits...eager to embrace. But what if the shadows concealed your secrets? And within the rift of night you grew potently strong and your realities blurred? What if the shadows held the one you loved and its realm was to become your sanctuary?

This is the story of Lily Devlin, a young woman who believes that her life has forever changed with the murder of her parents. But Lily is yet to learn that this is merely a small taste. After an unbelievable absence in the woods, Lily tries to move forward to find some way to deal with her new circumstances. But something keeps distracting her. The night beckons her. The moon calls her to the woods. Her desires are no longer hers alone. And she knows now. She has been bitten; altered. Evolving within the shadows that were once a nightmare to her; now she, is the monster. No longer will there be a dark dimension. No longer will the night hide its secrets. For the moon's allure possesses smoldering flame and lucid shadow; for she has become...Luminous.

About the Author

Kendra lives in the southernmost part of Illinois about an hour away from the Shawnee National Forest where her first published novel Luminous fictionally takes place. She has always been an avid lover of animals and plant life and is a member of the Illinois chapter of the Sierra Club. She is also a big fan of the paranormal, whether it be in book form or the addictive television series. Her love of wildlife and the supernatural were the inspiration for her strong female werewolf driven story which includes animals and plants on the Illinois threatened and endangered lists. Kendra wasn't interested in writing about the usual oppressed female victim that melts and shrieks for a hero to come along. Instead, her intention was to write about a female character who could be considered somewhat real yet still feminine as well as empowered to save her own hide while kicking a few in the process. Her favorite authors are Alice Sebold, Stephen King, Loren Coleman (cryptozoologist and former resident of Illinois), Rick Yancey and R.L. Stine. Some of her favorite books include the Bible (for her Christianity and the beautiful prose), Mysterious America, The Lovely Bones, Dracula by Bram Stoker and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.

I really enjoyed this book. Very imaginative, but believable. The characters were very real to me. Very good for a first novel. I am excited for the next one! I highly recommend.
