Kirkus Reviews
Lynn's unique personal style makes her stand out in all the wrong ways at her small-town high school. She loves designing clothes and outfits, so an opportunity to serve on the advisory board of teen fashion magazine GlITter Girl seems like the perfect outlet for her creativity. After missing her chance to present to the magazine editors' panel, Lynn falls into both a famous designer's salad and a Cinderella-esque opportunity to be GlITter Girl's first featured IT Girl, a visionary among teen fashionistas. Fashion powers-that-be in New York want to sell Lynn's designs to tweens everywhere, which thrills Lynn until she learns about the changes they plan to make. Whether she's dealing with snobby classmates or high-strung industry executives, Lynn maintains a positive attitude. She boosts her self-esteem not by becoming popular but by doing what she loves. Adults concerned about children's consumerism need not fear; there is no name-dropping of designers, only descriptions of Lynn's personal creations. Lynn's kooky optimism and enthusiasm for her work give this book a funny, inspiring vibe that young fashion enthusiasts should enjoy. (Fiction. 10 & up)

High school freshman Lynn Vincent's bold fashion sense always makes a big impression. While Lynn knows "it would have been much easier for me to put on the typical high-schooler outfit," she can't help but be herself, creating combinations so outrageous that her best friend Taylor's mother wishes Taylor would find more traditional friends (on the first day of school Lynn wears a plaid shirt, pink tutu skirt, kneesocks, and fedora). Then popular magazine GlITter Girl sponsors a contest to find teens on the cutting edge of fashion. The day of the audition, Lynn trips and sends a homemade shoe flying onto the salad plate of one of the judges, a famous designer. Like Prince Charming pursuing Cinderella with a glass slipper, the magazine finds Lynn with the aid of her shoe and asks her to be its very first IT Girl, launching her into the limelight. DeVillers (Liberty Porter, First Daughter) keeps Lynn true to herself: her funky, conversational tone never wavers, even when the powers-that-be want to change her designs. The story celebrates individualism and friendship and should generate smiles. Ages 10-up. (Mar.)

Having the courage to be oneself can be an impossible task for a freshman in high school. Lynn starts school hoping to meet people who appreciate her for her own signature sense of style. Despite her love for her best friend, Taylor, she dreams of having friends with their own fashion sense. Instead she struggles with the same insults and slights she has had her whole life. One night, inspired by the hope of being chosen for GlITter Girl's new IT panel, Lynn hacks and glues a special pair of shoes. These shoes, which speak to a special part of Lynn's being, grab the attention of Valentyna, an iconic fashion designer. In a short period of time, Lynn finds herself propelled from slightly insane loser to overnight online celebrity. She is forced to navigate the issues that fame brings and ultimately learns some lasting lessons about who she is and who she is not. This fun and entertaining read puts a different take on many of the familiar trials of high school. Reviewer: Amalia Selle

Gr 6–9—Lynn is a fashion diva, so much of one, in fact, that she is ahead of the curve. She scouts trends seasons in advance and customizes her own clothes. On a daily basis she expresses herself through her wardrobe. Most people just don't get her style. Her pink tutu and navy plaid shirt outfit grant her nothing but stares. But Lynn doesn't mind. She's used to the jibes, the names, and being highly visible. But things change drastically when she goes to try out for the GlITer Girl IT panel. She trips, and one of her fashion-forward ideas lands on the lunch of her fashion-designer icon. Suddenly she is an "IT Girl." People ask her advice and try to copy her unique style. Companies want to buy her ideas. Popular kids want to be her BFF. For Lynn, the real issue becomes staying true to herself and not getting lost amid the masses. Lynn Visible is a sweet story with one core theme. While few readers will identify with Lynn's particularly zany sense of fashion, they will love her spirit and vivaciousness.—Melyssa Malinowski, Kenwood High School, Baltimore, MD

This book is really cool. I will read again for sure. I think that this book should be for maybe 10 at the youngest. Lynn has interesting style and I think that it is cool that she is not afraid to be bold with what she wears. I like this book SO much that I have practically memorized it! If you are like me you will enjoy this book because it has so many pages it will take a little longer to read. It is definitely not one of those thin boring books that you only read once!

"Lynn Visible" was great. Two thumbs up! This novel has the right stuff to encourage the youth to be themselves and be unique, not compromise on your individual style to "suit" others; yes, the pun is intended here. This is a wonderful novel to inspire all readers to follow their career goals and aspirations, and not to settle for less. "Lynn Visible" has a well-developed storyline and characters that will engage readers and keep their attention; it is built on true-to-life personalities that many readers will be able to relate to. Being who you are and loving what you like is all part of the message in "Lynn Visible." *Worthwhile reading. *Good for inspirational reading.

I'm not in the tween/teen demographic for this book, but I love Julia DeVillers work, and buy all her books for my girls. Having said that, I was totally enthralled with this book! Lynn Vincent is a brilliant character who is funny, smart, quirky, and so much more! Before I'd gotten more than 50 pages in, she had me laughing so hard I was crying. The descriptions of Lynn's outfits were perfect (this would make for such a great movie so we could see all her ideas come to life), and you found yourself rooting for her and all her friends throughout the book. And there is a powerful message in this book about remaining true to yourself which we can all use at any age. Go out and buy this book, it's a winner!!

My daughter and I both enjoy reading Ms. DeVillers books. They are all smart, funny, colorful, entertaining and there is always a life lesson in there too. Lynn Visible does not disappoint. We got it yesterday and my daughter won't put it down. She LOVES it! She said, "This is right up my reading alley." Thank goodness we had a snow day today so she could read as much as she wanted. My daughter made a list of her 10 favorite books for a friend and four out of the ten were written by Ms. DeVillers. I am sure this one will be added to the list. LOVE IT!!
