Uilleam MacRieve believed he’d laid to rest the ghosts of his boyhood. But when a brutal torture revives those ancient agonies and destroys his Lykae instinct, the proud Scot craves the oblivion of death. Until he finds her—a young human so full of spirit and courage that she pulls him back from the brink.

Seized for the auction block, Chloe Todd is forced to enter a terrifying new world of monsters and lore as a bound slave. When offered up to creatures of the dark, she fears she won’t last the night. Until she’s claimed by him—a wicked immortal with heartbreaking eyes, whose touch sets her blood on fire.

With enemies circling, MacRieve spirits Chloe away to the isolated Highland keep of his youth. But once he takes her to his bed, his sensual mate becomes something more than human, evoking his savage past and testing his sanity. On the cusp of the full moon, can he conquer his worst nightmare to save Chloe…from himself?

No One Does it Better Kresley Cole makes me want to read. From the time I open the cover I am immersed in the journey with the storyline and characters drawing you in as though you are there inside the pages experiencing each and every emotion and adventure with them. Uilleam MacRieve or Will to his family has lost and mourned much over his centuries but he seems to be finally putting his demons to rest and getting right with himself. That is until he is targeted again Uilleam is captured and brutally tortured at the hand of the Order. Now his thirst for blood and need for revenges has all but consumes him. Chloe Todd is your average twenty four year old she plays soccer on the weekends and has a father that loves her, so why do thing seem not quite the same anymore. Chloe is noticing changes in both her and her father. In Chloe it is the physical changes, she no longer needs to eat as much and she needs little sleep yet she has ample energy to sustain her day, with her father it more personal he is becoming secretive and distant. When Chloe finally confronts her father his only response is to say he though she was clear and with that he hands Chloe a book and tells her to read it, then he is gone. Chloe is confused and disoriented when she is taken from her home and awakens to find herself at the site of what seems to be an auction, HERS. Chloe quickly realises that what she thought were tales or myths from a book her father gave her is actually truth, but how did he know and why does it seem they have taken her because of him?. When Uilleam learns the witches have taken someone connected with his kidnapper both his twin brother Munro and him immediately leave to find what information they can about the man he seeks retribution from. Uilleam scents something as he draws nearer to the site and so does his twin Munro. Uilleam scents his mate, Munro scents his sister, with that desperation soon take over and they know they need to save the human girl before she is raped and tortured to find the location of the man that is torturing their kind. It doesn't take Uilleam long to know she is unaware of what her father has done and his need to protect and claim her is strong. As Chloe and Uilleam draw closer the past is about to come back to threaten everything they both need. Will Chloe accept was she is about to face and can Uilleam reopen the wounds of old to finally move forward and heal before it is too late? MacRieve was one I had been waiting for and I would say that it was better than I could have imagined but I don't guess anymore I just wait anxiously for each new release date for this series by Kresley Cole because it is ALWAYS better than I could have imagined. Oh how I love this series! I wish could could publish a book a month! There are so many characters that we fans are anticipating. MacRieve's story is just as excellent as the rest. Like another reviewer mentioned, it plays with so many emotions at once. I love Kresley's heroins. They aren't weak and timid..they are tough as snails and give these men a run for their money. MacRieve's story involves many of the old characters we have come to love from previous books. The story also continues developing on the overal theme of the Accession that is coming. Many old questions are anwered in this book. Many new questions of what the future holds . I LOVE this series! To "Book Monster Reviews"...please learn what a book review is all about. Your "review" gave 95% of the plot line away. I personaly love spoilers, but for other readers who read your "review" you may have totally ruined those special moments in a story where the reader has to pause and take in the suprise elements that occur in a story. Shame on you.

Loved this book. Wonderful, heartbreaking, funny, and complicated. Highly recommend. Great addition to the series. Chloe is an exceptional heroine. Will is traumatized by his past, but Cole handles it expertly.

I loved this story, it kept me interested, wantng to know what comes next, my only complaint: you ended the book with a cliffhanger with his brother, Munro, no telling when that will be available, why do that?

Macrieve is book 14 in the Immortals After Dark series. This book focuses on a character I've been wanting to know more about for awhile now, Macrieve! He's a Lykae, and a warrior and not one you want to cross. I couldn't wait to see who his mate would be. We find out early in the book that he's captured, tortured, and manages to escape from a prison that held a bunch of people from the Lore. After a few months of him tormenting himself, Macrieve hears that the daughter of the man who organized the prison he was tortured in was captured and is being sold to the highest bidder. Imagine his surprise when he goes to the auction and smells his mate. Snatch and grab style, Macrieve escapes with his mate, Chloe Todd and heads to one of his places with a ton of his people there to protect them. Chloe was raised thinking she was a human, but before she's captured to be auctioned off she's noticed things were changing. Her senses were heightened, and she didn't need to eat to survive anymore. She's now trapped with Macrieve in his mansion, and the unknown bits of her heritage can and will cause trouble. The duo grows closer with each day, but when things are revealed I wasn't sure if they'd be able to set aside their past issues and be happy with one another. We get a lot of Macrieve's childhood story told in this installment. It broke my heart to hear what all he had gone through. There's no wonder why he's so fierce, but it's left him hating an entire race in the Lore. KCole doesn't believe in going easy on her characters, but it really does give a reason on why they are the way they are. I enjoyed this installment but was quite frustrated with Macrieve in several situations. You know how hard headed men can be sometimes. If you're a fan of Paranormal Romance, I think you'd love this series! Each book is about a different couple, and the overall series arc progresses with each book. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Never disappointed. I think Ulliam might be my favorite H in this series. And just loved Chloe's "just rub some dirt in it" attitude! Can never go wrong with KC.

The guy on the cover of this book is creepy...not sexy at all. It seriously distracted me from getting into his character. I felt the same way about the book on Lothaire but thank god his pic was changed. Anyways, I love all her books so it.s not fair to give a bad review due to the front cover....but stilll
