Mad Hot Ballroom

The documentary Mad Hot Ballroom follows the lives of a group of New York City school kids who forsake their urban lifestyles for a summer of ballroom dancing. The film's soundtrack is predictably stocked with the kind of accessible standards -- does anyone really still need or want C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" in their collections -- that young men and women of their age might respond to. Glenn Miller's "In the Mood" provides the swing, Peggy Lee fuels the foxtrot, and El Bonche spices things up with some merengue on "Menea." There's nothing groundbreaking here for fans of any of the genres mentioned, but folks who walk out of theater inspired to try some dancing of their own will find Mad Hot Ballroom's 15 steps from the street to the stage a real treat.

This movie wasn't just about dancing, it also taught young men how to adress a young lady and also how to dress. Their manners were also taught.
