Reviewed by Michelle Robertson for Readers' Favorite Madam C.J. Walker (formerly known as Sarah Breedlove's story) is a rags to riches tale. Madam Walker worked hard every day. Sarah Breedlove was the daughter of former slaves, although she herself was not born into slavery. Sarah's life had hardships. She suffered the loss of her parents, an unkind living arrangement with her sister's husband, and the loss of her first husband. Sarah did not let those obstacles bring her down. She remained strong and dedicated to her new found love, making homemade hair products. Madam C.J. Walker worked hard and put in long hours to develop her home business. Eventually the business expanded and she began selling other beauty products alongside her hair products. She is documented to be the first African-American woman in post-slavery days to become a self-made millionaire.   Madam C.J. Walker’s Road To Success was written by Donnette Black and illustrated by Mohamed Qovaiz. This delightful book is an exciting educational read. Inside the cover, the reader will find a wonderful array of colorful pictures to better help the mind of a child envision what Madam C.J. Walker's appearance was like as well as her lifestyle. Madam C.J. Walker's story is one that will educate, inspire, and motivate the reader toward success. Sarah /Madam C.J. Walker's story teaches the world that no matter your gender or race, if you set a goal and work at it every day, you can achieve it. You should never give up on your dreams, despite all obstacles life throws at you.

Excellent children's book. Although It's a children;s book, I recommend adults to purchase and read as well. Very informative and concise. I certainly learned something new and proudly give to my daughters. I look forward to additional works from Donnette Black.

This true story is wonderfully and gracefully told and illustrations are exquisite. This book is Highly recommended for read-alouds and is not only perfect for a collecter book for children and grandchildren but should be added to libraries and classroom use due to the factual information located at the end of the book. If Madam C.J. Walker was alive today she would be very pleased and proud.

Wow, what a wonderful Book. I brought this book for my niece and she loves it. She wants me to read it to her all the time. It shows children how they too can be successful at anything they put their mind to. The great thing about this book it that is speaks on an actual person making it in life and not a fictional character
