Dennis Hollister's life changes forever when he receives a phone call from Patrick Crust, a famous writer and an old family friend. Patrick is terminally ill, but totally determined to side with his own imminent death and astound the world with his last masterpiece.
The whole affair seems straightforward enough until Patrick reveals to Dennis his swan song idea: the country's first legal euthanasia establishment he unofficially calls the Death Palace. It is there and ready to open its doors to anyone... for a price.
Patrick implores Dennis to inherit this splurge slaughterhouse with the rest of his immense fortune. What he keeps to himself for the time being is that he also wants Dennis to become his executioner.
What Patrick doesn't know is that his suicidal plans may not be actually his, after all, and that his misfortune is but a fragment of a bigger and infinitely more tragic picture.
Will Dennis, a man of law, be able to murder his sick friend? And what about the mysterious woman, Magdalena, who permeates his thoughts since the moment their eyes met for the first time? What role does she play in all of this? And why does Dennis suddenly have the feeling she is not entirely human?
