Kate Daniels is a strong character with a secret past she can't let anyone know about. Her entire purpose in life is to kill her father, but before she can do that she must train and be the best she can be. Most of this novel takes place in an arena, which is pretty interesting. I hung on every word and every fight described. The rest of the novel was heart felt and intriguing. All of the characters are multidimensional and unique. I'm enjoying every bit of this series. My only qualm about this book is Kate's continuing denial of feelings between her and Curran. I understand that she thinks he just wants to conquer her then leave, but if she is attracted to him too, I'm not sure I understand the problem. There isn't anything in her past that we know about that would make her seem scared to be in a relationship. Hopefully she will get over her fear of actually liking someone in the future. I can't wait until we get to the showdown between Kate and her ultimate enemies, but I'm content to read about her adventures along the way.

I am a huge fan of urban fantasy. I love getting lost in another world. Ilona Andrews creates a world so believable that getting lost isn't the problem, wanting to come back to reality is the problem. Ilona Andrews' writing makes me want to pull a Dunkin Donuts commercial and shout how much I love it from the roof tops. Seriously. I'm so not kidding. Y'all might read about me in the paper later today. Cause let me tell you, once I get up there, I'm not coming down til everyone buys EVERY book in the KATE DANIELS series. If I'm going to be on the roof, so are the rest of y'all. One of the things I like best about this series is the heroine, Kate Daniels. Kate is so believable that she just leaps from the page. I particularly like her vulnerability mixed with strength. Those two qualities are hard to portray without coming across as too vulnerable or too super-hero-ish. Ilona Andrews is a master story-teller. MAGIC STRIKES is impossible to put down. I've read it three times since receiving it. I may read it again today. If you were hoping I'd tell you all kinds of spoilers in this review, you are pretty disappointed right about now. I'm not a spoiler. I don't have it in me. What I want is for you to read the blurb, take my advice and jump into this series along with me. My review is to let you know that Ilona Andrews rocks! Every book in this series has been totally awesome and MAGIC STRIKES is no exception. If you're looking for exceptional world building, delicious story telling and adventure so great you want to burst from your chair and join in, Ilona Andrews is the author for you. If you haven't tried this series, go to TODAY! MAGIC BITES: Book 1 is totally awesome! HOW can you resist my pleas. You can't. While you're there, go ahead and get MAGIC BURNS : Book 2. It is also omg awesome! Let me tell you, you must go ahead and pre-order MAGIC STRIKES : Book 3. Trust me. It will make you beg for more. Also, you will be glad you aren't wasting time waiting for BN to send them. If you are forced to wait, you'll suffer. I don't want you to suffer. I want you to have instant gratification. If you are like me, a Kate Daniels addict, and you haven't pre-ordered MAGIC STRIKES , consider yourself flogged. PRE-ORDER the book. Don't make me report you. I will. It's best not to test me.

~Reviewed by SUZANNE & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Magic Strikes is hands down my favourite book in the whole Kate Daniels series so far. ~ Under the Covers Kate Daniels has been asked to assess the Reapers, a team of warriors in the Midnight Games, as although they may look human their forms may hide something much deadlier. However, it isn’t just Kate who has been caught up in the Midnight Games and the Reapers, her friends in the Pack have also been pulled in, despite the Pack Law forbidding them to enter the Games, as the Reapers may hold a weapon key to wiping out all shifters. Magic Strikes is hands down my favourite book in the whole Kate Daniels series so far. The combination of the continually growing tension between Kate and Curran; the awesome action packed idea of the Midnight Games and the shock of having Kate’s past rear its head all combine to explode on the pages of Magic Strikes and I loved it. It seems at this point in the series I am reading them just as much to see when Kate and Curran will FINALLY stop dancing around one another and get down to business, as much as I am reading to learn more about Kate and her past as well as her latest adventure. They come soooo close in this book, it had me screaming in excitement and banging my head in frustration… and I really enjoyed every second. As for the action and adventure, like the previous books it is packed full of the usual sword waving, magic casting and sprinkling of dead bodies and myths come to life. The addition of the Midnight Games, a gladiator type contest, was brilliant, it enabled us to learn more about Kate’s past and was a unique setting for the story. As usual, I adored this book, it is full of humour, romance and action and I can’t get enough of it!

This series is the best I have EVER read. These authors, ( wife and husband team) remind me of the early days of Laurell Hamilton when she was still writing good stories. The stories are SO FUN to read, the writing perfect, and the characters you will long remember after the last page. This is the third book in the series, and I just cannot wait for the next one. I really cannot recommend these books enough. Wait till you read them! Fast track right to your keeper shelf.

Kate has many challenges in this new book. Between her mysterious past and the shifter community, Kate has her hands full. I love this whole series and can't wait for the next book to come out. I would recommend this book and this entire series.

I was suspicious of the arena "fight club" setting for this one but it really did provide a venue for the characters to move into closer relationships. Andrea and Raphael. Kate and Curran. Even Julie's crush on Derek will get more interesting as the series progresses. The Kate-Curran relationship reminds me a lot of Mercy-Adam in the Patricia Briggs' books. They are slow to come together and haven't quite made it there yet. Kate saving Curran and then him rescuing her was great. Finally, I liked how Kate's paternal background was better explained. I feel it is going to prove VERY hard on those around her in the book(s) to come. What is Curran think? How will daddy dearest react? Will anyone be the same after the truth comes out? I guess I will have to wait for book 4 just like everyone else.

I am re-reading the complete Kate Daniels series and this is the 3rd book in it. I really like this heroine because she is smart, and you can respect her. I also like that she didn't meet the hero, fall in lust, and into bed with him. If you want some substance to your heroes, I highly recommend this series.

This series just gets better and better! Magic Strikes is the third book in the Kate Daniels series and I loved it just as much as the others. In this one, Kate has been drafted to work in the Order as a sort of liaison between the Pack and the Order. She is on shaky ground with them, even though her mentor was a Knight of the Order and held in high esteem. But Kate quit before earning her Knighthood and is a bit of an authority-hating rebel. These books are action-packed and thoroughly engrossing. But for me, the characters are what really bring me in. We learn more about Kate, her past, and why she is the way she is. The story of Kate is fascinating and tragic at the same time. Curran plays a big role in this novel and I love his character, too. It would have been too easy to make him the alpha male, all brawn, and no brains type. He is an alpha male, but he is so much more than that. He is smart and just and surprisingly amusing. Derek, one of my favorite shifters in the story, is significant in this novel. I loved his story almost as I did Kate's. The mythology is fantastic in these books. The way it is woven into the mythology of the world is creative and seamless and adds a really rich layer to the entire series. Overall: This has quickly become one of my favorite series and it is one I highly recommend!

There is a strong likelihood that this review is really going to sound more like gushing than anything else. I am okay with that and hope you are as well. I am a HUGE fan of this series and have been for since I found the series in early 2012. I read the first 5 books within a couple of weeks and can't wait for the next book to be released every year. This is a series that I will most likely re-read often because it is just so good and a lot of fun to revisit. This was a re-read for me and I actually remembered more of the basic story that I would have guessed. I mean I can't usually remember why I walked into a room these days so remembering the detailed plot of a book that I read in 3 days over 4.5 years ago is an achievement. I actually think that I liked this book a little more on this re-read because I know exactly where the characters are in their lives after 9 books and taking a peek into their past is just a lot of fun. I really, really liked the first 2 books in the series but this is the book that really turned me into a dedicated fan. After finishing the book for the second time, I understand why this book grabbed me like it did the first time. There is a lot going on in this story and many of my favorite characters play a large part of the story. It is amazing how many future events in the series are foreshadowed in this book. This book is packed with excitement. There is a bit of mystery to solve. A whole lot of intense action scenes. There are some tense moments regarding the health of one of my favorite characters. Seriously, did you hear what happened to Derek? No?...well you will have to read the book to find out. There is Curran. And a hot tub.....need I say more? The chemistry between Kate and Curran in this book is off the charts. I have read a lot of romantic scenes over the years and only rarely is an author able to capture chemistry in such a way that I can feel my toes curl but this series does it perfectly with this pair. I really liked the narration in this audiobook. I thought that Renee Raudman did a fabulous job with this book. This is a complete turnaround for me. I had some problems with the narration in the first two books and yes, this is the same narrator. In the first book, I didn't care for the voice used for Curran. In the second book, I really couldn't stand the voices used for Julie. Julie wasn't in this book too much but I wasn't ever bothered by her voice this time around. And Curran - I actually like the voice for him quite a lot in this book. It seems that I really just needed to adjust to the narrator's interpretation of this awesome world. I cannot recommend this series enough to fans of urban fiction. This is the third book in the series and I feel like this is a series that really does need to be read in order. They are all wonderful books so you will be doing yourself a favor by starting at the beginning anyway. I am ready to jump into a re-read of the next audiobook in the series right away.

I got nothing. This was of course 5 stars for me. What else to say that hasn't been said about this series. A series I can't believe it took me this long to finally read. So far I'm liking the series. Kate is an interesting character. And the banter between her and Curran, while one of my favorite moments, I do like the banter and friendship of her and Jim. I swear there's moments with those two that I couldn't help but smile. Honestly they're adorable together. But concerning Curran however, I like that Kate stands her ground and tries to stay in control when she's around him. Got to give her awesome points for that. I also like that the other characters get some time to shine and interact with Kate and its not just her and Curran. Basically this series has been interesting and fun so far. Really good sequel.

~ 5 Magic Strikes Stars ~ (No Spoilers) A FANTASTIC read in Urban Fantasy where magic, mystery, and technology blend together into a fast-paced action-packed adventure.  Magic Strikes is book three in the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. Their is no rest for Kate and her friends as we are thrown back into Atlanta, with new players wreaking destruction and a highly illegal underground game. Kate is one kick-ass heroine that I thoroughly enjoy reading. She has heart, a core of steel, and moves to back herself up. I like her character development. In this one she is trying to adjust to having friends and people she cares about. All her life she was told to never make friends or have a relationship, so for her this is new and goes agents what she was taught. The author gives us more information on Kate’s past, who she really is, and why she tries to stay hidden. As things go you can not hide forever and the choices she makes will expose her to her enemies. Her relationship with Curren is also changing. He’s chasing/courting her as a shifter would and she is totally in denial. I am enjoy how this relationship is progressing and developing. The author introduces us to more characters that we will be seeing in future installments. Saiman makes more of an appearance in the novel and we get one BIG SURPRISE from him. Jim opens up to us a little about his past. This is something unusual for his character, because he is very closed off with everyone. Last, the author gives us more information about Roland. All the secondary characters are enjoyable and entertaining. The foreshadowing in Magic Strikes is out of this world and the ending was superb. I am hooked and can’t wait to read the next installment. What a wild adventure! A FABULOUS read! If you enjoy Urban Fantasy, then this series is a must read. The Andrews team have created a unique in-depth world full of mystery, magic and technology blended together for an action-packed non-stop adventure.
