Main Street Vegan: Everything You Need to Know to Eat Healthfully and Live Compassionately in the Real World by Victoria Moran, Adair Moran

Hollywood celebrities are doing it. Corporate moguls are doing it. But what about those of us living in the real world—and on a real budget?

Author and holistic health practitioner Victoria Moran started eating only plants nearly thirty years ago, raised her daughter, Adair, vegan from birth,

and maintains a sixty-pound weight loss. In Main Street Vegan, Moran offers a complete guide to making this dietary and lifestyle shift with an

emphasis on practical "baby steps," proving that you don’t have to have a personal chef or lifestyle coach on speed dial to experience the physical

and spiritual benefits of being a vegan. This book provides practical advice and inspiration for everyone—from Main Street to Wall Street, and

everywhere between.

"Finally, a book that isn't preaching to the vegan choir, but to the people in the pews—and the ones who can’t fit in those pews. This is a book for the Main Street majority who aren’t vegans. Once you read this, you'll know it's possible to get healthy and enjoy doing it—even if you live in Paramus or Peoria."—Michael Moore

"A great read for vegans and aspiring vegans."—Russell Simmons

"Yet another divine gift from Victoria Moran. Main Street Vegan covers it all—inspiration, information, and out of this world recipes. This book is a gem."—Rory Freedman, co-author Skinny Bitch

"Main Street Vegan is exactly the guide you need to make changing the menu effortless. Victoria Moran covers every aspect of plant-based eating and cruelty-free living, with everything you need to make healthy changes stick."—Neal Barnard, MD, president, Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and NY Times bestselling author of 21-Day Weight Loss Kickstart

"A great book for anyone who's curious about veganism. It shows that not all vegans are weirdos like me."—Moby

I've been looking for this book for years, and Victoria finally wrote it! A long time meat-eater, wishing I could "someday" go vegan but not knowing how I could ever give up my meat-eating lifestyle, I cried with relief at the introduction, which seemed to be written just for me. A third of the way into the book, eating meat just seemed ridiculous. Twenty pages later, I knew I could do this "one day at a time", and several pages later I was planning my first all-vegan shopping list. 26 meat-free days later, this beginner is thrilled at the non-judgmental, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guidance Victoria Moran has provided with her gem of a book.

A very balanced presentation of nutritional information about vegan, vegetarian, or mixed diets -- with plenty of room for thought to make it personally useful. Interesting to read and good to have on hand to refer to for guidance on healthful eating. Recipes are appetizing, user friendly, and inspire experimentation on one's own. I'm pleased to have it.

Main Street Vegan an excellent book for beginner vegans and people who are "vegan-curious". Victoria Moran covers everything there is to know about veganism, from beans and B12 to shoes and mascara. She squashes all vegan stereotypes and shows how easy vegan living is. In addition to being a good sourcebook for new vegans, Main Street Vegan is a good "refresher course" for those who are already vegans. I've been vegan for many years now, and every once in a while I like to read a book on veganism to keep me motivated in both my eating habits and my activism. This was the perfect book! Each chapter is short and easy to read, and full of wonderful stories and anecdotes from Victoria's life. She writes with such a warm and friendly voice that you almost feel as if you're discussing veganism with a good friend. Each chapter ends with a recipe, so if you've decided to go vegan while reading the book, you can start right away with a delicious, easy to make dish.

This book makes me want to be a stronger vegan. It reminds me of my choice to be one every time I pick it up. Love the recipes as well.

I loved this book! I initially read this book to get some good recipes as I just don't know what to cook if I'm not cooking meat and this book is so much more than that. It makes you want to be a vegan for so many different reasons and it's not a pushy, make you feel guilty, ease into it if you like because you're still doing some good kind of book. I am easing into the lifestyle but I cannot put any animal product in my mouth without thinking about what I've read. My daughter is an avid steak and potato no veggie kind of girl and I made the Chickpea Curry recipe and she absolutely LOVED it! I've tried two other recipes in this book and they are fantastic. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is thinking about going vegan or even just wants some healthy food choices. It's a great how-to on being a vegan and was exactly what i was looking for.

If you've been thinking about going vegan (whether for health reasons, moral reasons, or any other), check out this book! It proves that while it's a major change, anyone can do it- no matter where they live or what they make!

For anyone considering going vegan, this is an excellent book to get one started. I have a minor in Nutritional Science and am constantly researching food information. This book pointed out some things of which I was not aware. Also, the recipes were easy to follow and the ingredients are easy to find. While I have already become a vegan, this book helped reinforce that my decision was the correct one.

I would recommend this book to anyone that has ever considered changing their way of eating and raising their consciousness. Reading about the meat industry was an eye opener. After learning how these animals suffer so they can be served on our dinner table makes it hard not to choose a more ethical offering. I still eat dairy but hope to eliminate it in time as I continue to study the benefits of a totally vegetarian lifestyle. Thanks Victoria and Adair Moran.

Enough can't be said about this book. I subscribe to VegNews and they had a one page article about MSV in the August 2012 issue. The caption said something to the effect of: Vegan Bible's new testament. I found the book to be understanding and insightful, like talking to a friend and having a profoundly important conversation. At the end of each of the 40 chapters there is a recipe that ties the contents of the chapter together. I have already tried several and they are delicious...even my Meatatarian husband said they were pretty good. I've been veg for a year and a half now and found this book to be very enlightening. Also helpful is the appendices that guide you toward veg friendly and cruelty free products ranging from house cleaners to skin care and also further reading and cookbooks. A must buy for veteran and new veg peoples alike.

This beautifully written, comprehensive and informative book is perfect for anyone with an interest in the secrets of a joyful, successful and delicious vegan life. Main Street Vegan gently inspires and guides you through the steps to achieving the happiness and peace of mind that come from choosing to live in accordance with your highest values of compassion for animals, optimum health for your body, and minimizing your use of the planet's finite and precious resources.

I've been a vegetarian for a long time, and though I've always aspired to veganism, the thought was very scary and foreign. In June 2013, I attended an animal rights conference in D.C. where Victoria Moran spoke, and I was instantly inspired. The book has everything - how to phase in changes, how to gut your kitchen and restock in a sane and manageable way, and even how to deal with the incessant and sometimes rude comments and questions from meat eaters. Her tone is warm, positive, and non-judgmental, and she's so easy to relate to. She really inspired me to strive for a vegan 2014!
