The author, Martha Stevens David, says, "I don't write because I wish for fame or fortune, I write so that others may know what it really means to be 'a Mainer'. I've carried this story collection around in my mind since my very beginning and I wanted others to have a chance to know these characters as well as I. Thus began a life's obligation to record, remember and write all that I could before my time on this good earth is through. I dearly love it when readers of my work approach me and say, 'Martha, your stories took me home again!' I hope my stories make you laugh, smile, cry and remember all the stories of your own life and if I have achieved that, I have succeeded."
