Make Me: A Broke and Beautiful Novel by Tessa Bailey

USA TODAY BESTSELLER

Construction worker Russell Hart has been head-over-work boots for Abby Sullivan since the moment he laid eyes on her. But he knows a classy, uptown virgin like her could never be truly happy with a rough, blue-collar guy like him. If only she'd stop treating him like her personal hero—a role he craves more than oxygen—maybe he could accept it.

With the future of her family's hedge fund on her shoulders, Abby barely has time to sleep, let alone find love. And her best friend Russell acting like a sexy, overprotective hulk any time their Super Group goes out in public definitely isn't helping her single status. But after a near-tragedy lands Russell in her bed for the night, Abby's suddenly fantasizing about what he looks like shirtless. Chest hair and tattoos—who knew?

As Russell struggles to keep Abby at a safe distance, she begins to see through his tough-talking exterior—and acknowledge her own feelings. Now she's ready to turn the friend-zone into foreplay…and make him lose control.

About the Author

New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans, and laptop, and drove cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend, and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the work force as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband and daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

As bad as the other twobooks were I did not expect much from this book. I was surprised it was pretty good. This one was more like Tessas books I have read. It was emotional and it carried you through. This is the only one in the series that made you feel the characters.

THIS This is what I was expecting from all the chatter and “you must read these” books from Tessa Bailey. I’ve got an on-again-off-again flirtation with New Adult romance: I really have to be in the mood for the drama that comes with 20-somethings, and putting myself into a story, from my perspective now isn’t always easy. I was never that dramatic. Really. That’s my story. So in the final story of the Broke and Beautiful series, Bailey brings us a dirty talking man (she does that SO well) and he’s far more rough around the edges than the other boys in this series. He’s got so many wonderful qualities that I found him wholly frustrating when he would get inside his own head, worrying and overthinking the growing relationship with Abby. Abby is smart, clever and loyal, and not easily swayed from her set plans. Her curiosity about all things sexual lead to her investigating and thinking, carefully on her desires, what she needed and wanted. A true leap forward for characters in this genre: no wilting violet, she wasn’t afraid to ask for what she wanted and needed, and unafraid of speaking her own mind when something didn’t quite meet her expectations. The relationship with Abby and Russell develops from a friendship with chemistry to a true supportive relationship with plenty of steam. Bailey built the relationship with care, and provided readers with plenty of dialogue and moments to enjoy their flirtation, and then be hit with the steam. This relationship felt possible and plausible, I bought into both characters and didn’t want the story to end. Wrapping up with an epilogue that just brings the whole story, and series, to a close with a smile. This is what I wanted from a NA romance, and Bailey delivered it all with bells and a bow. And it’s hard not to love a hero who reads historic romance for pointers… misguided or completely adorable – it’s your guess. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review. All conclusions are my own responsibility.

***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog*** Make Me by Tessa Bailey Book Three of the Broke and Beautiful series Publisher: Avon Impulse Publication Date: August 11, 2015 Rating: 4 stars Source: eARC from Edelweiss ***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers*** Summary (from Goodreads): Construction worker Russell Hart has been head-over-work boots for Abby Sullivan since the moment he laid eyes on her. What I Liked: Much, much better. This one was so much better than Need Me. I haven't read Chase Me, so I can't speak for that novel. I am a huge fan of Tessa Bailey's Brazen novels, so I had hoped that I would love this Avon-published series as well. While I really disliked Need Me, I really liked Make Me! Russell has been in love with Abby since he met her. He's a friend of Louis and Ben's, and she's a roommate of Roxy and Honey's. Sadly, Abby is totally oblivious to Russell's feelings for her, and treats him as her best friend. He IS her best friend, and vice versa. She thinks his gruffness is cute, and loves that he is always irritated with her, bothering her about her safety and comfort. Abby is currently keep her family's hedge fun afloat, unknown to her roommates and friends. She loves that Russell worries about her... until one day, he's taking care of her and she sort of wakes up, and notices Russell as a guy. Friendship turns into something more, but will what's standing between them keep them apart? Ahh, Russell. I really like Russell. He is a humble guy, working as a construction worker with his brother. They have their own company, but Russell knows one thing: his humbles means will never compare to Abby's lush lifestyle. Her family could buy his company one hundred times over (that might be a slight exaggeration - or maybe not), and he knows it. Russel has seen how his mother and father grew apart, because she came from money, and no matter how hard he worked, it wasn't good enough. So Russell knows he isn't good enough for Abby, but he cares about her regardless. He's a good guy, caring and sweet. I hate seeing him beat himself up over thinking he isn't good enough for her - because he totally is! Not to mention that he is one swoony guy. He's sweet and caring, like I said before. He's also super hawt in the bedroom. When he and Abby finally collide, it's like fireworks. Their chemistry is explosive. This sexy story is the romance between Russell and Abby. Russell and Abby are friends but Russell has lusted after Abby for a long time. When things between them explode, it's all that he's longed for. But believing he isn't good enough for his friend, he wants to limit their connection. Can Abby convince him that she wants him just the way he is? I quite enjoyed this story. As expected, the sexy times were well written and very steamy. Russell is definitely an alpha male, but more of the grumpy variety. He did seem to be a bit one dimensional - he was a grumpy caveman from the start, usually scowling and angry over something and I would have liked him to show a bit more of a tender side when dealing with Abby, though she certainly didn't mind him the way he was. Abby is a virgin and was on the naive side, but once she and Russell connect sexually there is no going back for her. She was a smart, friendly woman and I liked her character. Those who've read previous titles in this series have been waiting for Russell and Abby to get their happy ever after. Each title can be read as a standalone and there are appearances from the other two couples in this one that fans will be delighted with. A good ending to the series. 4 stars. Note: a copy of this story was provided by the publisher via Edelweiss for review.

From Friends to Lovers...With Lots of Dirty Fun This is actually the first novel I've ever read by Tessa Bailey (though I've heard great things) and seeing as I'm a huge fan of friends-to-lovers romances and have always had a thing for construction workers, this really wasn't one I could miss. Abby isn't your typical rich girl. She's doesn't flaunt her wealth and doesn't really care about where she hangs out as long as she's with her friends. Friendship and a sense of belonging are the most important things to her and Russell has always been the person with whom she felt them the most. While most people are overly sweet and cater to her, Russell isn't afraid to push her buttons and throw a disapproving scowl her way. And she absolutely eats it up because he's one of the only people who has ever made her feel normal. She knows no matter how much they bicker, he'll always be there to for her. Russell has had the hots for Abby ever since they first met and their Super Group of friends was formed. Because of the way their friends paired off he always seems to end up with Abby sitting in his lap at social events, drowning him in the feel and smell of her body. Her innocent gestures of affection never fail to turn him on but he keeps a tight lid on his feelings believing that he has nothing to offer a rich, gorgeous girl like her. His own insecurities and painful past keep him for pursuing the love (and passion) brewing between them. God, this book is seriously hot! Russell has such a deliciously dirty mind and mouth. As much as he wants to go slow and be gentle for Tessa's sake, their desire just overwhelms them with a need for fast and hard. Russell and Abby not only have amazing chemistry in the bedroom - or against walls - but a wonderful friendship. The foundation of sweet moments, humor and banter makes their romance so much richer and deeper. Although I was a tad frustrated with Russell for limiting the relationship based on financial status and prejudices which had nothing to do with who Abby really is, he is such a sweet, loving guy that I can't really hold it against him in the end. Abby might be a bit naive and new to the world of friendships and sex but she is far from a pushover and I really loved the way she stood her ground both with Russell and with her family. I will definitely be adding the other two books in this series to my TBR list because Tessa Bailey is rocking my contemporary romance world. This book had heart, humor and tons of heat and I can't wait to read more from her. Uptown/Downtown romances are not exactly groundbreaking in the genre but she really gave her characters personality and scars and struggles the reader can really connect to. Plus, shout out for representing Queens! Whoop, whoop! Also, for using the expression "wood for days". Possibly the best, and most authentically Queens way a hero could say that he was constantly hard in the heroine's presence. All the applause emojis for you, Ms. Bailey. EVERY. LAST. ONE. Disclaimer: I received this book free in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions shared are my own.

I've waited for Russell and Abby's story since the first moment they laid eyes on each other in Chase Me. (Pretty, so pretty. *melt*) I knew there was something special there and I couldn't wait to finally read it. Russell wasn't the only one being teased during the first two books. ;) The reality is, I loved it more than I even thought I would. Russell was that perfect combination of alpha male and vulnerable guy. I loved how he looked out for Abby – even if he did go a little overboard from time to time. He always had the best of intentions and it was obvious he would rather cut himself open than do anything to hurt Abby in any way. There were some great big moments between these two characters, but there were also so many small, perfect moments when you could see just how much he cared for her in his every expression and action. That's why I loved Russell so much. I loved getting inside his head, too. On the outside he's this gruff construction worker, but inside he's so reflective and insecure and constantly thinking. He just totally melted my heart in a way I didn't quite expect. He did have a complex about money and a fear that he'd never be enough for Abby, who grew up in an extremely wealthy family, and that wore on me after awhile, but I understood why he felt as he did. He was also wrestling with demons from the past. He was a wonderfully complex and lovable character. Abby was fantastic in her own right. I love that Tessa's women are always strong and don't NEED a man to fix them or save them or make them whole. Abby was smart and sassy and I grew to love her over the course of this series. I found her just a little odd at the beginning when she admitted she didn't have friends and was actually interested more in that than roommates. But then I stop to think how this rag tag group wouldn't ever have come together if it hadn't been for her and that desire. Thankfully they did. But, I digress. Abby was a little awkward and dealing with things professionally she didn't really need to be handling. She was also grappling with her newfound attraction to Russell, her best friend. Russell and Abby together? Pure freaking gold. I adored them as friends. I shipped them from the very start of the series. I had to see them together. I wanted to see how his gruff, blue collar self would mesh with her virginal, clean self. I mean, I knew it would be magical because it's Tessa, but still. ;) I loved how these two played off each other. Friends to lovers stories are always one of my favorites so it's no wonder this one hit me as hard as it did. As expected, things were smoking hot between them. I loved how Russell, who wanted nothing more than to protect Abby in all things, had this darker desire to claim her in the bedroom (or, you know, on the beach). It all went along so well with the lovely paradox that was Russell. Of course, their coupling was not without drama, but it wasn't overly angsty (though I did cry a couple tears – Russell's vulnerabilities had a way of breaking me). Make Me made my heart happy. It's just that simple. It was satisfying to see Russell and Abby paired off. It was just as great to get another dose of Roxy and Louis and Honey and Ben. I loved the friendships – that bromance, man! It gets me every time. This book was funny and sexy and had some truly emotional moments. I think I highlighted roughly half the book because there were so many wonderful words. (And more than a few seriously HOT ones.)

4 Stars | Hot Steam As a huge (bordering on slightly obsessed) fan of Tessa Bailey’s Broke & Beautiful novels, one of the most charming and blazing hot contemporary romance series of 2015, I spent the last few months eagerly counting down the days until I could devour Abby and Russell’s story. And, to my delight, my excitement, anticipation and high expectations were blissfully answered in MAKE ME. Warmhearted, emotional and exceedingly sexy, (I’m talking insanely perfect and perfectly filthy fantasy sex, sexy), this superbly written and glittering grand finale to the series rocked my ever-loving world! Abby is a darling, sweet and surprisingly feisty heroine who sparkles and endears from the start. She’s the ideal match for hard-headed and hard-loving Russell, whose intense, intrinsic attachment and overpowering love for her feels visceral and entirely believable. That gruff and glorious man is irrevocably smitten with his beautiful Abby, and it’s absolutely heavenly to read! Every moment of every day his thoughts are fueled by a need to protect, provide, please and, sigh…, pleasure the love of his life—even if she doesn’t know it yet. And, oh my goodness, when Abby does discover Russell’s *ahem* hard and heated attraction to her, she feels it too and is so very ready to explore! (Note: You might want to cue your A/C unit to full blast at this point in their story.) And, while Russell’s indelicate, blunt and often hilarious caveman ways may cause him to stumble in his efforts to win his girl, they are standing-ovation worthy and ovulation inducing perfection in the bedroom. Rough, wild and deliciously naughty, Russell is a preternaturally gifted warrior lover who shatters and satisfies innocent and then not-so-innocent Abby every single time. Utter ecstasy! Effervescent and unforgettable, this 5-alarm scorcher is a must-read, re-read and keeper-shelf dazzler. Love this couple, love this romance, love this series! Bottom line: Read this book!
