Making Over Maris (Wired Series, #3) by Sabrina York

Making Over Maris by Sabrina York

When über-nerd Jack asks Sara to make him more attractive to women, she can't say no--even though it's an impossible task. He's shaggy and doughy and hopelessly inappropriate. He has no style or emotional intelligence but he's a good person. And a great friend. What Sara never expects? Beneath all that fur and geekiness is a steamy hunk just waiting to emerge.

Jack takes Sara's regimen very seriously, working out and losing weight until he feels like a new man. He even complies with her command to shave his beard--because Jack didn't ask Sara to make him over so he would be attractive to other women. He only wants to be attractive to her. They go on a series of fake dates, each hotter and more sinful than the last. It's not long before Sara discovers Jack's secret desire to be dominated and what began as an arrangement becomes something amazing--something that could be real.

I hadn’t read any of the earlier books in this series, but I will be grabbing them with my Santa offerings. Making Over Maris is a refreshing take on a Pygmalion story, but here the man is sorely in need of the polish. Jack is rude, prickly, crude and utterly incapable of dealing properly with a female. Dork doesn’t even come close to definng his image, with his scraggly beard and inattention to his dress or physique. And well, there is this little problem – he makes flow charts and analyzes trends …. “If Yes: Charm her from her bad mood. If No: Proceed with cauthion”. “Proceed with caution? We’re not wild animals, Jack.” “You kind of are.” This he muttered. But anyone who has worked with the denizens of the IT departments with the Star Trek posters, dim lights, Dr. Who memorabilia and the endless parade of black t-shirts referencing Shroedinger’s Cat or making puns of Pi will relate to his innate discomfort. Yet all is not smooth in Sara’s world. Her own ego has taken several dings and her heart has been kicked often, leaving her unsure of her own self and desires, and believing that life will never be what she hopes so learning to settle is best. But, gamely Sara takes on the task to make Jack a ladies man, and in the process finds that this diamond in the rough just might be the perfect fit for her life. Jack, for his part, went to her because of an undying attraction and desire for her to become his, and what better way to learn from the mistress herself. With forays into romance novels, long discussions about life and trust, and several steamy scenes in which they test their own sexual desires and limits the story starts as a steam fest, but develops into a heartwarming and romantic story that shows the power of trust and honest communication. You never really know just how a story from Sabrina York will affect you, but the Pont Marie in Paris, with a crib sheet outlining the steps to forever was the most perfectly delicious and romantic option possible. I purchased a copy of this title for my own library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This was a sexy, well-written book. Jack asks Sara to help him be more attractive to women. It's an impossible task, but he's a good person and a great friend and she can't say no. He doesn't tell her that she is the woman he wants to find him attractive... It can be read as a stand-alone book, though it is part of a series with related characters. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading others by Sabrina York!

I am voluntarily reviewing this book after receiving an ARC generously provided by the author. Jack Maris is an ultra successful, super wealthy software developer, but all the money in the world can't buy him the one thing he wants: game. After years of pining away for his high school friend, Sara, Jack finally concocts a plan to make her his. In exchange for a trip to Paris for her 30th birthday, Jack hires Sara to make him irresistible to women. Little does Sara realize that underneath the nerdy, furry exterior lies a gorgeous, hot man just waiting to break out of his shell. As Sara begins to "train" Jack in the art of wooing women, she realizes that she just might want to keep Jack all to herself.... This installment of the Wired series is hot, hot, hot!!! Ladies, be forewarned: this erotica novel delves into the world of femdom and is not for the feint of heart. While the heat factor of this novel is turned way up, careful attention is still paid to the development of achingly real and human characters. While previous novels in the series predisposed me to feel a certain way about Jack, I found myself seeing him in a whole new way as I read this book. Sara's own hurts and insecurities are laid bare for the reader to see as well, and while her treatment of Jack is often less than ideal, her motivations are clear. As a result, I found myself cheering for a HEA for two flawed, real human hearts seeking a genuine connection. This story is a quick and tantalizing read fans of erotic romance will not want to miss.
