Making Teddy Bears: Projects, Patterns, History, Lore by Paige Gilchrist
Happy birthday, Teddy Bear! In 2002, everyone's favorite toy will be 100 years oldso welcome to the party. Celebrate by looking back at his long life, enjoying teddy trivia, viewing bear paraphernalia, and making one yourself to hug and love.
Here's the original cartoon (of President Roosevelt sparing the life of a cub) that inspired the toy, as well as the first bear on the market. A design timeline shows its evolution in shape, design, color, and sometimes dress. But the charming piŠce de resistance is the parade of project bears, divided into three sections. It's bear-ly hard at all to make the single-pattern piece Fuzzy Wuzzy Snuggle, Merry Prankster, Harlequin, Confetti, or Bubble Blue Bauble bears. Or try medium-level Autumn Ted, Honey, Heirloom, and other teddys. More skilled crafters will try the jointed models, like Homer and Bumble. Plus: "bear essentials" and teddy TLC! 8 1/2 X 10. all in color
