Malevolent is Cassia Brightmore's first book and she has entered the writing world with a BANG! I was entranced from the first page and remained that way throughout the book. The intense scenes of darkness gave me chills, while her ability to develop the characters made me feel a range of emotions for them anywhere from happiness and excitement, to fear and hatred. Brightmore sucked me right into the story and was not afraid to rid the story of important characters. This really kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. When I got to the end, I was completely blindsided. I am definitely in need of a support group (since I now trust no one), as well as the next book in the Darkness series. She leaves just enough loose ends to make me wonder what could possibly happen next. It is crazy to realize that this is her first book. It was amazing in all the right places and has made me a dedicated fan of her work. This book got under my skin and I may never be the same.

Overall Rating:  4.5 Rockin Stars Cassia Brightmore's debut book, Malevolent, The Darkness Series, volume 1 is a mystery, thriller, and romance novel filled with so much suspense that it will leave you breathless, scared, and hurting for the characters in the story.  The author created a fictional heart stopping reality that is nothing short of chilling.  It leaves the reader with an eerie "OMG".   Gwyn Woods is running away from a life that has left her scarred physically as well as mentally. She is running from her abusive ex, a man that tried to kill her.  She happens upon a small quaint town in Louisiana called Durham Heights and decides that this is a place she will be safe in for a while.  Gwyn is in for an attraction that will rock her world when she meets the hot, sexy sheriff, Brady James.  Not only does she have a growing need for the sheriff, but she also learns there is a sinister serial killer on the loose in the small community.  A psychopath, who takes young girls and does unspeakable things before finally killing them.   Sheriff Brady James has a history with the unspeakable acts of sadistic killers.  Once a NYPD detective, he moved to Durham Heights hoping for a fresh start and an easier life.  However, when a dead body of a young girl turns up in his town, everything changes for him as he tirelessly tries to find the killer.  The one bright spot in all of this is he has met the woman of his dreams.  A woman that he wants like no other and he has to have her, protect her.  Gwyn Woods is new in town and even though he has only just met her, she consumes him.  Fighting to keep his town safe and now Gwyn as well, Brady is relentlessly wading through the evidence to catch the killer.   My interest was captured uneasily at first by this story.  I found myself drawn in by the horror and the mystery that the author generated through the eyes of the begging victims.  As the story unfolded, this thriller frightened, yet perplexed me.  I was drawn to the intensity of Sheriff Brady James, while loving the beautiful person that Gwyn Woods represented.  In the end, my heart was lightened, but still heavily saturated with sadness from the killer's mayhem and madness.  This novel was carefully crafted to arouse turmoil, while at the same time producing a beautiful love story.  I'm a fan, Cassia!  I patiently await the next part of this series.   Hero: Sheriff Brady James 4.5 stars Heroine: Gwyn Woods 4.5 stars Steam Level: 4.5 stars                         Plot: 4.5 stars Cliffhanger: No Would I recommend this book:  Yes! This is a book that will take you to the edge of pain and suffering by the serial killer as well as enjoy an overwhelming mystery, with a splash of sexy romance.  A heroine that deserves her own HEA and a hot hero sheriff that wants to give it to her.  This thriller romance is a spellbinder.   Would I read other books by this author:  Yes! Cassia has an interesting way of writing that intrigues the reader from the moment you begin to read her book.

I thought that I had read a dark book before but I was sadly mistaken once I started this book. I knew to be worried even scared especially after reading the teasers and excerpts of this book but I couldn't stop reading it; I loved every second of this book. This book was passionate, sexy, dark and frightening. I loved how well this book flowed while reading it. Cassia has a way with words that pull you into the story and make you feel like you are apart of it. I look forward to her 2nd in the series to see what happened next! "She was his light in the darkness. A pure, kind soul. He was going to spend the rest of his life showing her just how loved she really was."

5 Stars From Sammy's Book Obsession MY THOUGHTS~  I was provided with a Review Copy/ARC for review. Wow...this book was fu--messed up! Not in a bad way, but that's the most apt way to describe it that I can think of at the moment. It was most definitely a dark read, but had other elements as well. There is a love story or two in there. I seriously enjoyed it once I got into it.  I'm impressed that this is the author's debut novel! The writing was very well done! The story and some of the characters were twisted. I loved the characters though. I'm thinking that this author either has a crazy wicked imagination or she's just plain crazy! Lol You just have to read it to understand why I say that. She's extremely talented, no doubt! This read is probably not for everyone. If the "dark side" intrigues you at all, read this. If not, well....try it anyway! If there is more to come, I will definitely be reading it!

A Deliciously Dark and Sinfully Wicked Thrill Ride!  MALEVOLENT (Darkness, # 1) by Cassia Brightmore March 2, 2015 Publisher: self-published 100 pages, approximately Romance: Dark Thriller, Suspense ** Provided by Author in Exchange for an Honest Review. ** -- SYNOPSIS -- Darkness has a seductive power, a delicious energy that sinks its claws in deep. Once the devil has a hold of you, true malevolence is born. Sheriff Brady James has sworn to protect the small town of Durham Heights, his current priority to ruthlessly hunt a sadistic killer on the loose. With lives at stake, his focus is split between two beautiful women - one dark, one light. The clock is ticking, the threat palpable; crawling closer at every turn. Once death has you in its sights, there is no escape. Pain. Suffering. Lives shattered and broken. In the fight of good against evil, who will survive? This is the first book in the Darkness series, a wishing evil upon others novel that can be read as a standalone. Due to mature content and violent situations, this book is recommended for readers 18 years and up. -------------------------- -- MY THOUGHTS -- Don't let her sweet face fool you... there is a deliciously dark and wickedly twisted mind hiding beneath that adorably innocent facade. Novella length, approximately 100 pages. Chapter One sets the tone for the violently graphic side to this story. If you are squeamish or your senses are easily offended: Do NOT read this. You have been warned. Sexual, physical, mental and emotional abuse do occur, as only one part, in the plot. It's hard to rate the lead characters, as I feel the dark leads play just as an important role as Brady does. Whether it be the bad guys or the good, or even the females and secondary characters, they are are all written very well, each with a distinct and unique personality. The plot is intriguing, it sucks and pulls you in. The ease of flow creates a page-turning thriller that you can't wait to see what happens next in. For being a novella length story, I am extremely surprised by how packed the content is in this story and the characters are richly developed.  As a debut novella, this is a fantastic start. I think Ms. Brightmore has a successful future ahead of her with this series if she continues to write at this level and only improves with age and experience. The only less than stellar comment I can make is that I'd figured the general identity of one of the malevolent duo out in the first chapter. The second one I'd bounced between three people, but the correct one of those three was only actually a fleeting thought. Looking back on it, the clues are all there... for the most part. It'll keep you guessing and wanting more! Although the mystery is solved, the case is only partially closed. Predictability is low, if you're not searching every shadow for clues. The conclusion is solid in that the current story is wrapped up well-enough, but there's one element left wide open for the next book to pick up. I'd not call it a full-on cliffhanger, but more an "until next time". ------------------------ Heat Level: 5 WARNING: Sexual encounters range from sweet and chaise to violently graphic and psychotically sadistic. ------------------------ Score: 4.3  Stars: 4 -----------------------

I'm a guilty party that almost never 5 stars a book because I believe that there should always be room for improvement. However, this is damn close. I give Malevolent 4 1/2 stars! The romance is insta love, but the darkness and suspense will keep you craving more. DON'T let the beginning preview of the book prevent you from picking this up. There's just enough dark to keep you intrigued, but not so much to turn you off and make this a DNF or a don't buy. It really is a great balance of dark, romance, suspense/thriller and small town ambiance.  There is a bad element doing evil things to young women in this small town. Gwyn stops in after fleeing a BAD relationship several states away and wants nothing to do with men. One of the first people she meets is Brady - who happens to be the sheriff. There is an instant connection between them and Brady is quite the dirty talker. As much as she wants to be independent and by herself, she feels uncharacteristically safe when she's with Brady and they are a committed couple in virtually no time at all. I wasn't crazy about the dialog between Brady and Gwyn at times. Personally, I would have liked to have seen a little more tenderness in a couple of scenes. That's my only criticism. I understood why Brady was written the way he was by the time the book ended. I just wanted it all. There seems to be no rhyme or reason in the victim choice, and the signature is clear, but there is no discernible reason as to why. There is finalization to the case at the end of the book, but the window is open for additional stories to come. Cassia did a fabulous job with this book. There are enough questions, twists and turns along the way that my suspicion kept kept changing. This girl (me) - the crime show junkie with the analytic mind had it so wrong and was WAY off the mark. The reveal at the end of the book literally had my jaw hanging open in shock. There were times I was angry at what happened, and I messaged Cassia about it. If you feel the need, message her - she'd love to hear from you!  I didn't read anything else for at least a day after I read Malevolent. I'll be talking about and this book for a while and look forward to Cassia's next book. If you're reading this review - do yourself a favor and click the buy link. I don't think that you'll be disappointed. I received this ARC for an honest review.

Just finished reading Malevolent. What an intense, exciting, suspenseful, dark-romance. I was drawn in from the first page and the seductive energy from the characters kept me engaged until the heart-stopping ending. I am not going to give any spoilers, but the shocking ending will blow you away! Can't wait for the next read from Cassia Brightmore!

Mind Games My mind is officially BLOWN AWAY by this book and I’ll be reading EVERY SINGLE THING that Cassia Brightmore writes! I am so impressed with this book for a debut author. The depth of emotion, the power of the words, and the unbelievable plot line…it’s just ridiculous! This for me was a physiological thriller with romance and definite chemistry between the two main characters from their very first meeting. I felt like I was literally holding on to the edge of my seat the whole way through, there was absolutely no pulling me away from this read whatsoever. Sheriff Brady left the big city and settled into small town living after a devastating loss and Gwyn was running and trying to pick up the pieces from a volatile ex. Neither expected to find love, that was so instantaneous and undeniable. Unfortunately the sheriff has a murder that needs solving before things escalate any further. Some scenes will be hard to read. You might even have to set the book down for a little bit to let it all sink in, and let all the various emotions flow through you. It played out like a movie in my mind, and I was right there, gasping for breath, mind running wild, anxiety turned up to the nth degree. There were so many twist and turns in this book that even after it ends you're going to want to read it again just to make sure you didn't miss anything. In this type of dark romance, you think you know what will happen next, but I can guarantee you that your theories don't stand a chance. Because Cassia will flip it, she will throw us off kilter on multiple occasions, and she will make us think twice about what we think of a certain character. I embrace that, I crave it, and I can't wait to see what she brings us next.
