Title: Malice In Maggody - Arly Hanks Mystery Book 1 Author: Joan Hess Publisher: Open Road Integrated Media Published: 3-14-2017 Pages: 240 Genre: Mystery; Thrillers & Suspense Sub-Genre: Police Procedurals; Murder; Cozy Mystery ISBN: 9781504043465 ASIN: B01 N4RHNLC Reviewed For NetGalley and Open Road Integrated Media Reviewer: DelAnne Rating: 4.25 Stars The first in Joan Hess' Magoddy series, but it is also a reissue of its 1970 original hardcover publication. This is the third publication, which shows Joan Hess' work stands the test of time. Hess has a way of developing characters that could be someone you might meet any day of the week. The story could easily be heard on your local news station. Take a moment to get to know Arly and the charming village of Maggody. My rating of "Malice In Maggody - Arly Hanks Mystery Book 1" is 4.25 out of 5 stars.

Malice in Maggody by Joan Hess is the first book in the Arly Hanks Mysteries series and was definitely a laugh out loud ride. I know this series has been out for quite a while now; but I was happy to have the opportunity to begin this series as it's being re-released now. Arly (Ariel)Hanks is Chief of Police in the small town of Maggody, AR. Arly left home to go to college, married, and then lived in Manhattan until her divorce. She's now returned home to lick her wounds and try to decide what to do with the rest of life. While contemplating her life, she's taken on the job as Chief of Police which means she is often bored as nothing much happens in Maggody. Maggody is a small town filled with the usual plethora of good ole boys who love to hunt and fish. I liked Arly as she was honest with herself and others and her sarcastic sense of humor made me laugh. She is surrounded by a great cast of characters that added to the fun and the twists of the plot. The mystery kept me guessing until the reveal and the ending was kind of sweet. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Open Road Integrated Media via NetGalley.

I love Joan Hess, and while I deeply enjoy the Claire Molloy books I confess I prefer Arly Hanks and the denizens of Maggody. Now, in NOOK books, I find only books 1, 14, 15, and16. Who is responsible for this dreadful oversight?
