"Wow. After reading this book, I want to go hug a SEAL. I think the best part is the appeal to many different types of readers. There is friendship, hardship, military sex, and of course an HEA that fits!"
~ Fan review

Opening lines: Jason retreated to the padded room inside his head, making the place extra-warm this time, adding blankets and all kinds of cushions in "hot" colors, like red and orange. Not that he was cold. He had been, earlier, but now he was...away...inside his brain-room.

The only two survivors of a helicopter crash on Pakistani soil, Lieutenant Commander Jason "Casanova" Vanderby and Petty Officer Shane "Mad Dog" Madden barely escape the smoking wreckage of their helo and hike to a nearby aid station for help. The head doctor, Farrin Barr, has recently evacuated all staff from the facility, leaving her alone to deal with the two military men...and the terrorist horde hunting them.

Chased across northern Pakistan in a race for their lives, Jason and Farrin end up running from their own personal demons as much as from the enemy pursuing them. For Jason, being around his childhood friend, Shane, awakens unwelcome memories of an abusive past, while Farrin is haunted by a decision she made that forever changed her life.

In the midst of the chaos, both mental and physical, no one is more surprised by the attraction forming between Jason and Farrin than they are. Both have lived their lives closed off to relationships, unable to let go of the memories that haunt them. But just when they find the courage to move forward together, people from both of their pasts come back and threaten to destroy the new foundations of their love.

Content guidelines: Contains profanity and adult situations. This is a standalone novel.

Reviewed by Rabia Tanveer for Readers' Favorite Man Down: Wings of Gold Book 3 by Tracy Tappan is one of the coolest romances I have read so far this year. The story follows a soldier and a doctor who travel through a dangerous land towards safety, and in the meantime, the two of them find love. The story follows Petty Officer Shane “Mad Dog” Madden and Lieutenant Commander Jason “Casanova” Vanderby are the sole survivors of a helicopter crash in Northern Pakistan. Together, these two soldiers find a help station where they meet the beautiful and charming Dr. Farrin Barr. She is the head doctor at the help station and the only one remaining behind. If Jason and Shane thought this would be the end of their journey, they thought wrong. Now, these two men and Farrin are on the run from terrorists and trying to stay alive. Through this journey, Farrin and Jason feel a strong attraction between them, but this is not the time for romance. Fighting for their survival, they realize that even though they are ready for each other, their pasts and their present are not letting them explore their desires and what their relationship could be. Can Jason and Farrin let go of the past? Will they even get the chance to explore their feelings when the enemy is so close behind them? What can I say about this novel? I loved the dynamics between Jason and Shane. These two childhood friends had each other’s backs at all times. I loved Farrin, she is smart, strong and not a shrinking wallflower like most of the female characters in similar novels. She gives as good as she gets and she is not afraid to show everyone that she is ready to claw her way out if she has to. The story was intense, the characters were given proper time to develop and heal, and I loved the fact that nothing was rushed, even though it was certainly not a slow paced novel. Even the cover of the novel is awesome!

Always enjoy Tracy's writing and this was no exception. I felt right there in the action and locations she created. My emotions were all over in this book - tense, scared, relieved, crying and laughing. Her descriptions of people and places really caught me, she really can turn a phrase. I highly recommend all of Tracy's books, but this ranks as my favorite so far! I did receive an ARC in exchange for writing a review, but would gladly pay for any of her books!

If you’re looking for an action packed Military Romance then you must read Tappan’s Man Down! The third book in the series, Tappan gives you what you need in the background so you enjoy the read. So no need to go back and read the two books before. I’ll be going back! Those who love alpha males are going to love Jason . This is his story and he doesn’t disappoint! You will have your emotions pulled and yanked all over the place. You will love how the characters fall in love and how they both overcome their pasts to stay together.

Author Tracy Tappan has written a gritty military romance that stands alone but makes you want to go back and read the two previous books in the series. The quintessential military hero, Navy pilot Jason Vanderby is every woman’s dream of what a man should be. The heroine, Dr. Farrin Barr, is strong yet vulnerable. Both overcome issues in their past on the way to their happily-ever-after. Language and content are adult but in no way offensive. The love scenes are perfectly balanced and not just a throw in for titillation. All in all, a very exciting read! I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.

---4.5 Stars--- Wow! This book is jam packed full of explosive action and entertainment! There is so much going on in this book that I was completely engaged and couldn’t put the book down! This book is about two hot Navy SEALS, Jason “Casanova,” and Shane “Mad Dog,” who survive a helicopter crash in Pakistan after a mission goes terribly wrong. They then go searching for medical assistance as Shane is injured and they come across Dr. Farrin Barr. Dr. Farrin Barr happens to be the only doctor on site as the rest of the staff had been evacuated. It isn’t long before these three are bonded together in ways they never imagined. The chase is on as they are being hunted down by a terrorist. Jason, Shane, and Farrin must work together to make it out alive and escape the terrorist that is chasing them across the country. When the stakes are high and emotions are all over the place it isn’t too crazy that something like fear would turn into romance. This book has action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, romance, comedy, and so much more! This book touches on love, romance, friendship, courage, bravery, overcoming obstacles, second chances, and new beginnings. I really liked the main characters, Jason, Shane, and Farrin. They were well developed, likable, and relatable. Both Jason and Farrin bring some heavy baggage to the relationship. However, I think it brings them closer together instead of causing drama that could tear them apart. Both Jason and Farrin are very stubborn and have a hard time trusting and letting people in. This common ground helps them relate, but their walls aren’t easy to drop. This book was well researched and very realistic. It is clear Ms. Tappan is familiar with military procedures, jargon, and the Middle East. Ms. Tappan does state that she toned down the jargon, but it is a military book and they use a lot of code and acronyms. To help the reader not get lost or confused a glossary was included at the back of the book. I thought this was a great idea as it allowed for the reader to easily obtain the translation or a more in-depth understanding at their own discretion. I am a huge animal lover and former dog trainer for Guide Dogs for the Blind. So I was very hesitant on reading this book as there is a horrific scene depicting the execution of a pet. I knew this scene was coming, but I wasn’t sure how I would handle it. My beloved cat very recently died and I am still struggling with this heartache every day. With that said, as I reached said scene I decided to just skip over it – I couldn’t bring myself to read those passages. So I can’t tell you if they were written respectively or to what level or degree they reached. However, the rest of the book was well written and tasteful that I’d imagine the author was considerate and courteous during those disturbing scenes as well. All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it to anyone interested in an exciting and intriguing military romance book. Please note that this book does contain profanity and adult situations that may not be appropriate for younger readers or those that would be offended by those actions. Also, as previously mentioned, this book contains that gruesome scene that depicts the death of a pet. **Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book and have voluntarily provided an honest, and unbiased review in accordance with FTC regulations.**

An exciting addition to a series that just keeps getting better! “Man Down” by Tracy Tappan is Book 3 in the ‘Wings of Gold’ series, that is first and foremost military fiction, with some romance interspersed. This particular tale focuses on Lieutenant Commander Jason Vanderby as he tries to survive after being blindsided by a horrific attack. He is joined in his arduous journey by his estranged former best friend, Shane Madden, and Dr. Farrin Barr. They have to depend on each other through a crucible of challenges, and survive long enough to work through their past and present traumas in order to have any kind of meaningful future. This is a thrill-filled, suspenseful tale that starts with a description of the intense challenges faced to become a SEAL and ratchets up higher and higher throughout the story. Told through three points of view, this glimpse of the stamina and courage required to survive in a war zone is full of violence and savagery yet is leavened by the emotion and complicated relationships shared by the three main characters. The history between the two males, Jason and Shane, is revealed gradually in a counterpoint to the revelations of Farrin’s past while the intense action accompanying their struggle for survival keeps the reader invested in their story. I love the realism this author brings to her stories even as I ache at the experiences that form the framework for her repertoire. The ability to draw the reader in and allow insight into the daily tragedies and heartbreak that is compartmentalized to allow these brave soldiers to continue fighting for our freedom and safety is a remarkable gift that she shares unstintingly. Those who have triggers should be forewarned that there is considerable grisly violence, including a heartwrenching execution of a family pet. This is a story that you want to start only if you have plenty of time, because once you start, you will be immersed in a thrilling and vivid adventure that will keep you up late at night while you cheer, groan, and bite your nails, willing things to turn out positively. Those unfamiliar with the series will have no problem reading this as a stand-alone story, but will undoubtedly be gladdened to discover there are more alpha males to read about when this book is finished. Enjoy the adventure, I am sure there are plenty more to look forward to! A copy of this story was provided to me for review, a version of which has been offered to Night Owl Reviews

This book is AMAZING!!! The love, the action, the imagery, the plot, EVERYTHING was just so well done, which is typical of Tracy's work! Just like with the other books in this series (which don't necessarily need to be read to enjoy this one, although I thin you'd love those too!) , it's obvious just how much research went into making the military and geographical aspects of this book as accurate as possible. I know next to nothing about either, but the way the book was written makes everything SO easy to understand. She also includes a glossary to help with uncommon words, phrases and acronyms, which was very much appreciated! This book was seriously such a well-written military suspense that I would HIGHLY recommend this to non-romance readers as well. Granted, the element of love is prevalent towards the latter half of the book, but this book is just THAT good! That being said, and true to form for a military story, this book is graphic and deals with issues that may not be for everybody. But have I mentioned how fantastic this book is?! I loved the love and I loved the ending and I loved the characters and I would LOVE to read a book about Shane next!!! (This series is SO good!!!) (I received a copy of this book in consideration of an honest review)

This was such a great book. I love how Tracy's books are really authentic using the correct terminology AND providing a dictionary so you can actually understand what she's writing. Now, the story. This story has a triangle to it, but not in the sense you think. It takes you through the friendship of Jason and Shane. How they met, what they went through as they grew up and what made them have a falling out. Then comes in the heroine, Farrin. She adds a unique element as she was a a child bride in an arranged Iraqui marriage who escaped to the US. The story of her husband gave me chills, especially being from NY. The story of how the three of them meet, overcome the obstacles they are thrown and come out on the other side is truly a great read. If you like military romance that is not too heavy on romance, you will LOVE this book! Tracy has definitely done it again and I cannot wait for Book 4, all about Shane.

MAN DOWN by Tracy Tappan I absolutely loved this book!!! Tracy Tappan has joined my list of favorite authors. I can count on her to deliver a story that is the complete package. I found her with the first book of this series. Man Down has everything! It has hot seals, lots of heat, well developed characters, and a story line that is believeable. This is the third book in the Wings of Gold series. It can be read as a stand alone book easily, but do yourself a favor and enjoy the whole series. This series has military jargon and a glossary in the back to explain. It has a behind the scenes look at military life. I am hoping that this series goes on for awhile. Man Down is a story about Lieutenant Commander Jason “Casanova” Vanderby, Doctor Farrin Barr, and also Petty Officer Shane “Mad Dog” Madden. This story starts out with our seals in training and having been best buddies for years. There's a falling out and their lives go on without each other for 10 years. Their paths cross again during their helicopter wreck during a rescue mission in Pakistan . They have to work together to survive. Dr Barr has her own issues that she had to overcome to be the woman she is now. I don't want to give anything away as this is such a great book full of surprises you need to find them out for yourself. Suffice it to say, this story is about Jason and Farrin. Shane needs his book next. I was very lucky to receive this ARC in return for my honest review. Honestly, its an awesome read that I could not put down until I finished it!

Man down is the 3rd Book in The Wings of Gold Series. The focus of this book is about Special Ops Warfare Helicopter Pilot Jason Vanderby (Casanova) and Petty Office Shane (Mad Dog) Madden, friends since the age of 10 who went thru Navy Seal training together. You learn how Jason and Shane met, get to watch as they go thru training, and how they were re-united after 10-years during a Special Operations mission in Pakistan that goes wrong. Jason and Shane are the lone survivors of the helicopter crash, and have to work together to save each other. Jason and Shane make their way back to the Int'l Humanitarian Medical Relief (IMHR) Base that they flew out of to find it basically deserted, except for Dr. Farrin Barr and a handful of patients. There is a trader at the IHMR Base who notifies the infidels of Jason and Shane's arrival - the same person who helped the infidels down their helicopter. Jason, an injured Shane and Dr. Barr are on the run to save their lives. Jason and Shane friendship turns around as they are on the run, and we learn more about Dr. Barr. During all of the craziness, Jason and Farrin become close, they bond and fall in love. Another emotional roller coaster ride, well written story that is truly worth the read. I'm anxiously waiting for Book 4 in the The Wings of Gold Series … Petty Office Shane (Mad Dog) Madden's story in "Serve with Honor". I am grateful that I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Tracy Tappan Man Down is a gripping firsthand accounts of love, heroism, tragic loss, and hard-won victories, they learned that leadership—at every level—is the most important factor in whether a team succeeds or fails. I quickly felt permanently indebted to our armed forces brothers and sisters to keep our country safe from terrorist. An inspiring and page-turning read, the leadership lessons are easy to digest and implement. It provides a powerful Seal framework for action to lead team’s high-stakes environments. Great job Tracy. Wings of Gold is an incredible series!
