Perfect for the modern day mom!!! I enjoyed this book so much and learned a lot. Of course, I've been teaching my daughter her pleases and thank-yous but this made me realize how I can further enhance her skills so that she can be successful in developing relationships with her friends, family, and others. The author is a mom and it is evident as she refers to not only the great days, but also the days when our patience is running low and we are ready to pass the children on to the next person who comes through the front door. You know we've all been there! :) What's neat is there are real-life examples so you know how to put them into practice with your own child. The book does not come across as preachy or nagging or as a list of do's and don'ts. Rather, it's more like sitting down with a friend over a cup of coffee and learning some new ways to further enhance your child's development so they can shine even brighter! I highly recommend this book!!!

Yes, Manners That Matter for Moms: The Essential Book of Life Skills for Your Kids is a book about manners so moms will know how to help their children know everything they need to, as Maralee McKee the author says, "equip their kids to flourish in their relationships." But, just because it is written by a mom for moms, don't think there isn't a wealth of much needed information for dads, grandparents and teachers, to use with our children and grandchildren . . . and with ourselves, because there is! Manners is not about a list of do's and don'ts which you only need in the most formal of situations. It is not just about knowing when to say please, thank you and excuse me. Maralee says manners are about, "developing the interpersonal skills which will help them become the best versions of themselves they can be in any setting." We all need to know how to do this, for sure! In Manners that Matter for Moms, Maralee shares some of her own story which is sure to touch and encourage you; and show you the love, grace and power of our amazing God! She then covers everything from how to make a "five-star first impression", to what to say and how to say it, to bathroom and bodily noise etiquette, to dining do's and don'ts - and so much more! If you ever wondered what to say or do, how to say or do it and when not to say it or do it, this book will give you the answers! Plus, Maralee, in her sweet, kind and gracious way, shares this much needed information as a friend! What more could you want?! This is a book you can recommend to your family and friends! It is a book for you to read as well. Watch for the release of Manners that Matter for Moms, October 1, 2012 and while you wait for this book to show up on the shelves at your local book store, take a moment to check out Maralee's blog and her facebook page and become part of her Manner's Mentor family . . . you'll be so glad you did!

Wow! I have been walking around reading this book for the last couple of days, and I just can't put it down. I was hoping for a modern approach to manners from a Christian perspective, and I got that, but so much more. Yes, this will help me gently correct my daughter's table manners, but the person who will learn the most from this is me. Maralee McKee's warm, conversational approach to bringing civility back into the home comes at a time when this kind of perspective is so desperately needed. And I love the Biblical wisdom and insight into manners, and why they are crucial. This will be my go-to baby shower gift - it is that essential! An absolute must read for new moms, and those of us who have been at it for a little while.

Manners that Matter for Moms is a fun, practical book full of suggestions and tips that will help our children (and ourselves) to feel more confident navigating in different social settings. While reading the book I felt as if I was sitting down and talking to a friend over tea. The skills taught are the most relevant skills for our busy lives today. After reading the chapters on dining skills, I was surprised to find myself teaching my preschoolers what I learned the very next day. I feel confident that the next time I attend a banquet I will know what glass is mine! One of my favorite things about the book is the Inspiration and Application section at the end of each chapter. This is where Maralee gives the reader a Biblical purpose for each skill set taught. Seeing the Biblical Inspiration for Manners helped me to understand why Manners are so important. They don't make us fake, instead they teach us to be thoughtful and purposeful in our interactions with others making ourselves shine as positive example's of Christianity.

Manners that Matter for Moms is not only a primer for our children, it is a reminder and teacher to us adults. It shows us how we can incorporate the lovely into the ordinary, making it easier to navigate our days in honor and beauty. If my assessment sounds a bit flowery, know that Manners that Matter to Moms is genuinely practical. Also, it is fun to read as Maralee shares a variety of personal stories that will make us laugh and warm our hearts. My children were all getting copies for Christmas, but I doubt that I will keep them stashed away that long. I am beginning to view them as Happy Fall gifts.

Great book and beautifully written...It's an easy understandable read that will help guide parents in teaching their children manners and etiquette..Manners as taught by Maralee in the book are a sweet tangible example of God's sweet grace to others.....It's a great reference tool to keep on hand when that awkward situation ever arises ,and you need a "graceful" way to handle things.. Makes a wonderful gift,,especially for expectant moms or grandmothers...It's my new fabulous favorite gift to give at baby showers......

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it is especially sincere, compassionate, and funny at the same time. If Maralee can get across to six figure making executives (pg. 165-166) she can “successfully” express a suggestion to anyone! This is the kind of book that can be referenced time and time again therefore; it has earned a lasting spot on my bedside table!

Manners That Matter For Moms, by Maralee McKee, is written in an engaging, conversational manner. Maralee warmly shares her difficult story, her own embarrassing social moments, and her perspective. She explains that responding to situations with manners is not about being fake or following stuffy rules from yesteryear. Etiquette, she believes, provides habits that help express your best self and encourage others to be their best selves. Her book is full of sound guidelines and practical tips for our busy, technological world of today. She helps you understand the reasoning behind the suggestions so that the habit makes sense and becomes a natural response over time. Though I wish I’d had this resource years ago when my children were small, I believe it’s a book for everyone. I HIGHLY recommend Manners That Matter For Moms.

An Excellent Resource! Maralee McKee did a wonderful job with Manners That Matter for Moms. Not only does she cover all the manners and etiquette we have had questions about but she is personal as well, sharing her own story along the way. McKee covers topics such as first impressions, introductions, conversation skills, and even bodily noises. That last chapter had me laughing but thankful that she broached the subject. You will find a fun Etiquette IQ Quiz along with a quote in the beginning of the chapter and Inspiration and Application questions at the end each chapter, all starting in chapter four. Author McKee gets the point across well. Children are mimickers. If we want our children to have great manners then we need set the example of what good manners look like. As McKee says, it may take years for them to become habits for kids (and us) but if we are diligent, those years of training will pay off with great reward; when they are no longer habits but heartfelt actions. This book arrived at the perfect time for me. Our son's birthday party was just around the corner. As I read through it I would tell my husband what I had learned. Soon he was asking me what the author said about "this" or "that". He found all the information just as helpful as I did! At our son's party I was able to put my new found skills into practice and was very pleased with the outcome. Manners That Matter for Moms is most certainly a book you don't want to pass up. While there are some manners in the book that a lot of people are good about using daily, there are plenty more listed in here that may need some attention. ***Thank you Harvest House Publishers for the free book in exchange for my honest review.***
