Wilhelm Hauff (1802-1827), er schrieb auch unter den Pseudonym H. Clauren, war ein deutscher Schriftsteller des Biedermeier. Er studierte von 1820 bis 1824 Theologie an der Universität Tübingen, wo er zum Dr. Phil. promovierte. 1827 wurde er Redakteur des Cottaschen Morgenblattes für Gebildete Stände. Wilhelm Hauffs kurze literarische Schaffensperiode begann 1825 mit der Veröffentlichung einiger Novellen, Mitteilungen aus den Memoiren des Satan (2 Bände) (1825-1826) und Othello (1826), sowie seines Märchen-Almanach (1826-1828). Lichtenstein (1826), ein historischer Roman der Romantik, war bis ins 20. Jahrhundert neben Hauffs Märchen sein bekanntestes Werk. Durch seine Märchen, die mehrfach verfilmt wurden, wurde er unsterblich. Hauff ist außerdem Autor der Novelle Jud Süß (1827), basierend auf dem Leben des Württemberger Hofaktors Joseph Süß Oppenheimer (1698- 1738), die als Vorlage für den gleichnamigen antisemitischen NS-Propagandafilm diente. Weitere Werke des Autors sind u. a.: Der Mann im Mond (1825), Die Sängerin (1826), Die Bettlerin vom Pont des Arts (1827) und Kontrovers- Predigt über H. Clauren und den Mann im Monde (1827).
