When Marco's shy and fragile little sister, Lilly, tells him about the strange lights in the basement, he thinks she's imagining things. But Marco is curious, and before long he investigates. He finds a passage into a strange world, where he meets insect-like creatures who seem to know all about Lilly. They believe she is special and beg Marco to bring her to them so that she can embark on a dangerous quest to save their world from ruin. Can Marco help the creatures while protecting Lilly from harm?

In Marco's Millions by William Sleator, a boy named Marco lives an oridnary life. He and his two younger sisters, Lilly and Ruth live a non-adventurous life. Then, one day while Marco goes down to the basement, he dicovers part of the basement wall isn't actually there. When Marco goes down to the basement one day, he accidentally puts his hand through the wall and realizes the wall isn't actually there. He discovers a world where time is slower and concepts there are different than our world. The creatures there need Lilly to save their world. They believe she is the chosen one from an ancient prophecy. But Marco is afraid of what might happen if he gives the creatures Lilly. So he goes on a quest for these creatures instead of Lilly. It's perfect for pre-teens who enjoy fantasy mixed with adventure. It's a careful plot that's great and exciting. Alex B. ???????????????????

I totally loved this book! It was so emotional and was really exciting. I really don't like science fiction but had to read it for school, now I sort of like science fiction. I liked this book so much I already bought the sequel and loved it too.
