Everyone smiles in the same language. As two young girls make friends in the park, their mothers sit apart. They don't speak the same language. But, the girls start with a smile, an "hola" and "hello" and before you know it they are learning each others language and having so much fun they can't wait to come back the next day. The illustrations provide fodder for great discussion about what makes a good friend and language learner. I used this book every year in the first week of teaching second grande Spanish. I always found some new discussion point every year and the kids loved the book!
