Good mystery but not developed enough. Killer disclosed in last two chapters but how lead to the killer is not clear. Very good writing and character development.

A suspected suicide is found outside of the souvenir shop in Cape Bay. Fran keeps thinking about it and realizes it is not a suicide but murder. Disregarding the police's order to not investigate, Fran does just that. With her information can the police solve the crime? This started a little slow and confusing. I had to reread the beginning to understand it. The story picks up as Fran starts investigating. She has a logical mind and can see what the police have overlooked. The mystery was good and how Fran pieced it together was interesting. I like these characters and look forward to reading more of them in the next book.

Another episode of the Cape Bay Cafe cozy mysteries. Francesca Amaro cannot contain her curiosity when a man is found dead in the alley next to her friend, Mary Ellen's shop in the beach town of Cape Bay, Massachusetts. Even though Police Lt. Mike tells Fran to stay out of his investigation, she begins by talking to Mary Ellen the next day. Fran is able to unravel the puzzle piece by piece. But as usual, we are surprised by the results. Always look forward to Harper's next book.

Francesca sees something that doesn't make sense, and can not stop thinking about it until she understand what happened. I think we all do that to some degree, but as always, with Francesca, a little curiosity can be murder. I really love the character development of this series, how the characters are people I would choose as friends in real life. I love how they interact, leading the reader into logical questions, and considered conclusions without letting the reader jump to conclusions long before the story is over. It felt like there was one major editing that removed any explanation of who, exactly received the vital information that the souvenir shop owner gave, and why the CBPD did not follow up on it. I do wish the villain's character were more developed, and had not been revealed as quickly, or abruptly as it was. There could have been a few more chapters that detailed the tragedy of what drove one person to destroy another. Ironing out the motive more would have given the story a lot more body, after all, and a really good stylist is a terrible thing to waste. I really enjoy that Francesca is taking her time with her boyfriend Matteo, and that Matteo is in no rush. Real love must have strong foundation of trust, and friendship to stand the tests of time. Francesca, and Matteo are two people who like themselves, and treasure each other enough to slowly build a lifetime relationship rather than risk that relationship imploding in a heated rush.

Margaritas, Marzipan, and Murder is the third book in A Cape Bay Mystery series by Harper Lin. Francesca “Fran” Amaro is thirty-four years old and runs Antonia’s Italian Café (which was started by her family). Fran is enjoying a night out with Sammy (Samantha Eriksen) and Dawn. Sammy just broke up with her boyfriend of ten years (he was a mama’s boy who would not commit). They are enjoying margaritas when they hear about a dead body by Mary Ellen’s Souvenirs and Gifts. They decide to comfort Mary Ellen and maybe check things out along the way. The deceased is Abraham Casey who is a pharmacist from Boston. He booked a room at the bed and breakfast three months in advance. Why was he in town and who wanted him dead? Fran cannot help but look into the matter. Detective Mike Stanton tries to stop Fran, but Fran is unstoppable wants she sets her mind on something. Will Fran be able to find the killer before the killer finds Fran? Margaritas, Marzipan, and Murder is a cute cozy mystery novel. I just wish the author had provided a few more clues to help solve the mystery (so we can follow the bread crumbs). The mystery was easy to solve (actually I thought it was obvious), but I like following the clues throughout the story to solve a mystery. The writing is good in the book and I enjoy the characters. Fran can be a little clueless at times, but she is overall a good person. I give Margaritas, Marzipan, and Murder 4 out of 5 stars. I received a complimentary copy of Margaritas, Marzipan, and Murder from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is one of the most charming and nicest cozy mysteries I have read in a long time. The story is easy to follow but also has just the right amount of intrigue to keep you interested and guessing. If you have read any of the previous books in this series you will really enjoy this one. The book begins with a mysterious death in one of the Cape Bay city alleys. The death is originally deemed to be a suicide but soon turns into a murder investigation. Francesca tries to figure out the identity of the deceased, determine the reason for the murder as well as who the murderer is - all without interfering again in an inquiry being conducted by the lead investigator, Mike, of the Cape Bay PD. The mystery slowly evolves throughout the book with a surprise twist at the end. I also love that there is a very sweet romance unfolding between Francesca and Matt throughout this cozy mystery series. This is a pleasant read and a wonderful book to curl up with and read at any time.

I love this series. It just keeps getting better and better. You won't be able to put it down. The sleepy little town of Cape Bay grows on you from the first chapter. The characters make you feel like they could be your neighbors. Dawn and Fran take Sammy out for a girls night to help her get over her break up with long time boyfriend, Jared. Little did they know they would end the night looking at a dead body in an alley next to Mary Ellen's shop down the boardwalk. The best way I can describe Fran is a new age Nancy Drew. She finds a clue and runs with it much to the dismay of detective Mike Stanton. She begins to investigate because she has a feeling that it may not be as easy as just a suicide. With the help of her boyfriend Matt they find out the name of the person in the alley. What would a seemingly innocent family man/Pharmacist be doing in Cape Bay without his family? Who would want to kill him and why? This latest adventure finds that not everything is as it seems in Cape Bay and you should be afraid of the shadows. This is a must read clean mystery that will have you wondering and shocked at the end.
