The Mark of the Vampire Queen (Vampire Queen Series #2) by Joey W. Hill

From Joey W. Hill, the bestselling, award-winning author of the Vampire Queen and the Knights of the Boardroom series, comes this scorchingly hot novel of servant and master, vampire and vampire hunter. For fans of Laurell K. Hamilton and J.R.Ward.
Full servant. With his new title, Jacob must attend to Lady Lyssa's every need, venturing into a world of passion darker than he's ever known. As a vampire hunter he wasn't prepared to embrace a world where humans are sexual commodities, but he has adapted. Now he finds the integrity of his soul challenged as he serves his Mistress's needs as fully as he services her desires.

He loves her, though other servants warn against giving her his soul. Everyone knows that Vampires have no regard for humans, so why would a Vampiress bother treating a mere sex toy with respect? But Jacob knows a human servant is far more than that. His Mistress needs a warrior, a friend and a lover. A man who will serve her in all ways, even if he has to betray the priceless treasure of her love.

Since Jacob Green was chosen by his predecessor Thomas to replace him when the older man knew he was dying, he has become THE VAMPIRE QUEEN'S SERVANT. Jacob tries to be at least Thomas¿ equal but he struggles with the way his employer and her species treat humans as expendable. He wants much more as he has fallen in love with her Jacob is willing to give her his heart and soul to keep her safe.---------------- Lyssa knew from the first time she met Jacob he was different than all the mortals who have served her for almost a millennium as he is an alpha man not a submissive male. He makes her feel so much better than anyone ever has before. She even thinks she may love him, but vampires can live forever with superb health while humans rarely make a century and become frail as the decades pass. Lyssa knows what Jacob wants and offers her, but she fears touching his soul will allow him top touch hers and everyone knows that vampires are soulless.------------------- Vampire romance fans will take immense delight with this heated sequel that makes the supernatural seem natural especially in the boudoir. The story line is driven by the Lady and her servant who represent the social order in which bloodsuckers use humans as consumable supplies (food and otherwise). The lead couple¿s attraction grows with Jacob offering her his soul and Lyssa fearing to accept it. Fans of erotic romantic fantasy will relish THE MARK OF THE VAMPIRE QUEEN and look forward to Joey Hill¿s next entry in what is turning a strong saga.-------------- Harriet Klausner

The second book in this series, The Mark of the Vampire Queen, Lady Lyssa is beginning to really feel the effects the Delilah virus. She is also developing an emotional crutch in Jacob. She has fallen for the human. She is trying to push Jacob away but every time she hurts his feelings, she feels so bad that she ends up going to extremes to comfort him. Only making it harder not to fall for him. When Jacob takes down a human like a vampire mate would for her for her annual kill, she finally decides that she can't help but love him. But how much is she willing to sacrifice for him? Arriving at the Vampire Council meeting means Jacob is going to have to be on his best behavior and act like a good servant. While being mindful of this he is also still very worried about his Lady. Without investigating too much he is still trying to find out if there has been a breakthrough with the Delilah virus or if there is some other discovery Lord Brian is bringing before the vampire council. But can Jacob hide the fact Lyssa is infected or will he ask too many questions and put not only his life but Lady Lyssa's in danger? What is Lady Lyssa willing to sacrifice in order to protect Jacob when things don't go quite to plan? Will she expose herself and let Jacob die or is her love for him too strong to let him just fade? I LOVED this book and I am going to give it a 5 out of 5 stars. I love that this isn't just some sleezy romance there is a great love story here, a story of sacrifice and heartbreak. A story of love and life. A story with so many ups and downs that you wonder where the story is going to go next. It is not a genre that will appeal to everyone but I loved it!

This book was a continuation of the emotional journey between Lady Lyssa and Jacob. I liked this book even better than the first one and really enjoyed seeing the relationship between the two blossom.

I'm not a big fan of paranormal but this book caught my interest. It swept me up and in from the beginning. Lady Alyssa is a strong female character that can kick but and take names later. The depth of the characters and story kept me on edge throughout the book. Can't wait to read the next in the series. Thank you Joey W Hill

SEX. And more sex.  At the end of The Vampire Queen’s Servant Lady Lyssa had given Jacob the third mark knowing that she was dying and that it would mean his death too.  With mortality staring her in the face Lady Lyssa is feeling things she has never felt before.  She has to attend the council meeting in hopes that she can shore up her legacy and she needs Jacob more than ever in her heart and in her bed. This book is important to the series as you meet several of the vampires featured in future books and events that take place in this book are referred to in future books.
