Overview

Markan Empire by Nicholas A. Rose

Book Two of the Markan Empire Trilogy.

Cleared of all wrongdoing, Marcus Vintner is keen to press his claim to the Markan Throne. But he must first convince the Senate that it is time to replace the sylph-Emperor. Zenepha has proved himself an excellent monarch and the Senate is reluctant to push him aside.

Hingast's army still waits in the west, plotting a fresh assault, and a new threat has risen in the east. Nobody in Marka is certain of Re Taura's plans, so Neptarik and Balnus are sent to learn what they can in Taura City, where spies have an unfortunate habit of getting killed. They must learn Re Taura's intentions quickly, because Marka cannot fight a war on two fronts...

Markan Empire is the sequel to Markan Throne.

About the Author

Nicholas A. Rose is the author of the Ilvenworld novels. He enjoys everything to do with the sea, the outdoors and the mountains, which he finds inspirational. Nicholas also enjoys the rather more sedentary pastimes of chess, reading, real ale and, of course, writing.

There are two complete series: the "Gifted" novellas, which are a FREE introduction to my writing, and the "Markan Empire" trilogy. The first of a new trilogy, the "Flying Cloud Trilogy" was released at the end of February 2014 and work continues apace on the next two.

I am amazed that I have not stumbled across Mister Rose's works before this. His Ilvenworld is a well thought out example of "fantasy science fiction" in which a world that appears to be fantasy actual has science fiction underpinnings. (Another example of this genre would be the "Dragon" works by Anne McCaffrey). The characters are well-drawn and memorable and the writing draws you in completely. I heartily recommend anything written by this author.

469 nook pages. Rarely do i find a series, where the seond book outshines the first. This is a great book

Can't believe these books are free! I've spent money on books written by less talented authors! This book continues the story of Marka and its heroes, and does a great job of continuing to develop the characters and add new ones. Again; being free, there are SLIGHT errors in the writing but not near enough to detract from the story. To give you a taste of what I enjoy: Kevin Hearne Brent Weeks Brandon Sanderson Lee Child I would certainly consider this author's works close to those authors' caliber of stories. Its FAR beyond what you'd expect from a free book. So I recommend it.

I started by reading the Gifted series which was a free bunch and got hooked on this. Bought the whole Markan series to continue on. The main charachter from the Gifted series is in each of these books also. He is not the main source of the book but adds to it. There is a lot of war and battle which I don't mind but if you don't go for that it might not be the series for you. I did enjoy the whole series.
