Marsh Island (the Hirebomber Crime Series, Book 1) by Oliver F. Chase

Phil Pfieffer is an ex-Army Ranger turned private investigator who must outrun a psychopathic hit man, henchmen, ferocious sharks and even imprisonment to close the case. Marsh Island is Book 1 of The Hirebomber Crime Series.

After a crushing injury, Army Ranger Phil Pfeifer is left for dead in the mountains of Iran only days before the start of the Gulf War. America cannot reveal such a violation of national sovereignty mere days before the invasion begins. His body may heal but the heart takes longer. Seeking a new life as a private investigator, Phil is hired to find a wayward husband enraptured with stars and the world's demise. A simple case of the midlife crazies stops when a boat captain is murdered at Phil's feet and the Mafia tries to kill him in a chase through the backstreets of Las Vegas. The spurned wife goads Phil to continue the search sending him into the tropics to face death, sharks, miles of open ocean, and prison.

Look forward to Blind Marsh, the second book in The Hirebomber Crime Series and the thrilling conclusion to Phil's quest that includes a plot for murder at the highest levels that could change the face of America forever.

Great book to draw you in and get your heart pumping. The PI can't seem to let this mystery go despite life threatening situations, and that's the feeling you get while reading: you persevere and uncover new, exciting, frightening and deadly truths. Where is this path leading? I'm on to the next book already! If you want a dangerous mystery I would definitely recommend Marsh Island (and Blind Marsh).
