From the author of The Rogues Folly comes a Regency romance celebrating the witty and romantic world that fans of Georgette Heyer have fallen in love with.
Twenty years ago, Beatrice Copland committed a reckless and foolish act of deceit that shes certain ruined the life of a man shed fallen in love with and led to his wifes death. Now serving as companion to the stern Lady Bournaud, she leads a quiet life and attends to her duties as a kind of penance. But Lady Bournaud, trying to make amends for her own selfish ways, is opening her country estate to a few select guests for the holidaysincluding the man Beatrice wronged so many years ago.
Sir David Chappell spent nearly two decades coming to terms with the haunting memory of his wifes death. When he receives an invitation to Lady Bournauds for the Christmas season, hes reluctant to go at first, but hes sure the time away in Yorkshire will be a welcome change from London. Once there, hes immediately captivated by the youthful beauty and genuine compassion of the ladys companion, Beatrice Coplandall the while sensing that hes met her before.
Even as David pursues her and Beatrice realizes shes still powerfully attracted to the man, she must gently rebuff his advances for fear that her damning secret will come to light and reopen his old wounds. And while Lady Bournaud watches, happily scheming to make matches for all her guests, it may take more than a Christmas miracle for David to free Beatrices conscience, and her heart, at last.

I liked this book. It was spot on for a Christmas read. There is a good play between Youth and Old Age. The story is staged after the War and now life as England knows it will be changed. Donna did a good job with her people trying to work around the changes. First Beatrice is companion to Lady Bournaud who is 80. Lady B sets up a Christmas party and invites Sir David Chappell. He is the man who Beatrice loved years ago and feels as if she helped his wife to die . Big spoilers on this one. It is so real to watch everyone interact with each other. They fall in love but will they make love matches or obey their families wishes? Spoilers here too. This is a good read. It flows along with some hiccups along the way. Please give it a chance. I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.
A Matchmaker's Christmas by: Donna Lea Simpson Beautiful story of forgiveness and redemption. Twenty years ago Beatrice believes her actions contributed to the death of the wife of David Chappell who she was in love with. For this reason she has closed herself off from society and become a lady's companion. Beatrice and David meet again after twenty years. David is enraptured by Beatrice not realizing who she is. Highly recommended read.
