About the Author

A former combat helicopter pilot in Vietnam, Don Kirchner spent two and a half years in federal prison for his involvement with a large-scale marijuana smuggling operation in the mid-1980's. In over 25 years of work in prison and criminal justice reform since his release in 1988, Don has earned commendations from law enforcement and correctional authorities, and numerous government, civic and clerical leaders for his work in assisting inmates in better understanding how to overcome adversity.

Founder and Director of an Arizona nonprofit organization, Society for Return To Honor, Don has written two books on turning adversity into personal achievement, and travels extensively in his efforts to assist communities in redirecting juvenile and former adult offenders toward creating better, more meaningful lives and futures.

From the crime to the punishment, I found the story exciting and a page-turner. It was an adventure in suspense to the very end. The self-revelations on the part of the author were both intelligent and fascinating. It's a tough story, a tough reality in a system where only the tough come out a better person. It's an emotional tale of a survivor who learned to fly without his airplane but on the wings of the spirit within him. I highly recommend 'A Matter of Time.'

What a trip! No one could imagine what prison is like without reading this...and how the author grew and evolved during this experience is nothing short of inspiring. This book is written in such a compelling manner that I felt like I was living it myself. In addition to the joy, love, fear and gamut of emotions experienced, I came away with a lesson about how we create the manner in which we experience our lives in a way that I could easily adapt to my own life. Of course, it kept me up several nights since I read it word for word so that I could hear and feel what I was reading. I feel that this book will become a classic.

'A Matter of Time' by Don Kirchner, evokes the few times in my extensive reading experience that was relentless in keeping me turning pages unitl it was finished. Reading this book was like 'seeing' the movie. The incredible pace, imagery, and very personal reflections are lessons for us all. There are many true human redemption stories out there, but this one, in my humble opinion, ranks at the very top. No wonder the Federal Prosecutor wrote the foreword. Bravo! Mr. Kirchner, tell us more!

I had the privilege of meeting the author of this book several years ago when he was first writing it. I was fascinated with both the story and the way he told it back then, and have been waiting for it to come out ever since. Now that it's out and I have read it cover to cover, I can say it was definitely worth the wait. It's an incredible story, and his style of writing keeps you engaged until the very last page. You can open it anywhere, start reading, and and find yourself totally intrigued with the story. It's dramatic, heartwarming, suspenseful and rewarding. It's a stand-up-and-cheer kind of story that will inspire anyone who's ever found themselves trapped in a situation that seems scary, difficult or even impossible. I can't imagine anyone not loving this book.
