Natalie Embree was born on Oahu, Hawaii and moved to the mainland as a young girl. Feeling the pull back to
Hawaii her whole life, she now lives on Maui and is pursuing her art full time. Always more creative
than academic, she majored in theater at San Diego State, but to no avail, Hollywood never called.
At that point she decided to go behind the scenes and became a photographer. This then led to
graphic design and computer arts. Her formal training came from her special needs
artists at an art studio for adults with disabilities where she taught. Instructing an array of mediums
from ceramics, photography, fine art, fiber arts and more. Her three dimensional class was her favorite.
With a class size of ten challenged adults they created sculptures from recycled and donated products.
The outcome was always extraordinary to say the least. That being said, Natalie enjoys most all mediums.
Her favorite however is alcohol ink. Reacting similar to water colors with a little less forgiveness,
the ink is guided and has a mind of its own. Her most adored subject matter is her Mauihune monsters.
You can only imagine the trouble they must get into when no one is looking. These little creatures
are one of a kind with personalities that are guaranteed to put a smile of your face. And that is what
makes Natalie happy.
