"Maybelle" is a flash fiction story about one woman's afternoon as she, the lone survivor, takes a break from sorting through her family's homestead. Dusty and depressing work, she turns her mind to the news she heard the previous evening at Lazlo's Diner. Is it irony or karma when life begins with odd pairings?
"Mattie" is a short story about a woman who loves nothing better than to hop on a flight to someplace else. Although she is an experienced world traveler, Mattie enjoys the journey as much as the destination. Travel for her is all about learning how other people live. For her, a perfect afternoon would be sitting at a street side café, watching locals stroll by on their way to lunch or back to a job, perhaps.

About the Author
My childhood was spent living in the Capital District of the state of New York. I graduated from Colonie Central High School (CCHS) and attended SUNY Buffalo for two years. My professional career was spent in state government where I worked at the State University of New York's Central Administration and then for the Department of State. Retiring after some 35 years of public service, I learned how to live without the obligation of a 9-5 job and then traveled the world with my husband, Robert. Today we have settled into life in The Villages, in Central Florida. I enjoy quilting, writing, and learning an array of artful skills and crafts.
