"Mayhem" was my first experience with this genre. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I was hooked by the end of the first page. The main character Rowan has two wonderful lines: "I look like Dee’s closet drank too much and threw up on me." and "The hot-pink fabric matches my killer hot-pink heels. Literally, killer. Because I know I’m going to fall on my face and die." Those two lines told me I needed to get to know this character. And I am glad I did. I began the book just over 24 hours ago. If responsibilities as a mother and wife had not intervened, I would  have read the book in one sitting. As it is, I just finished it, came up for air and realized it was snowing outside. I was totally sucked into  the story. I highly recommend "Mayhem". I cannot wait for the sequels "Riot" and "Chaos". Just to clarify demographics, since I do not kno w if I am a typical reader of this genre or not, I am 53, thinking reading is the most important thing an individual can learn to do, and have now been opened to a whole new set of possibilities for reading choices. Thank you Ms. Shaw for writing such believable and enjoyable characters. I look forward to many, many more books from you.

Mayhem is an unexpected rock star romance, the type of romance that we all want. Rowan is the good girl, been with the same boy for the last three years. She feels like her future is all planned out, till the unexpected happens and she’s thrown practically in the arms of Adam Everest, the young rockstar god all the girls swoon for. But Rowan’s different, she doesn’t exactly give in, on a whim. This was so such a well written, beautiful story.  Some moments are so heartbreaking and ones that are full of love. At first, I was taken aback by Rowan; She was questioning a lot about Adam’s intentions. Which is understandable. But then I realized that she just didn’t have the highest self-esteem after what happened to her. Adam honestly is pretty impressive.   This is the first book that I’ve read of Shaw’s, so I’ am hooked. Already purchased the second book in the series. Can’t wait to just in again, in the world of Mayhem. Overall, Five Boundless Stars

I absolutely love this book. The only reason I put it down at all was for this pesky little thing called sleep, but if not for my eyes closing on me, I definitely would have stayed up all night to finish this. I think the best thing about Mayhem is how real it feels. I loved the characters, the relationships between them, the humor - which had me grinning like an idiot a lot- and just about everything, actually. I love Rowan's relationship with Dee, Leti, the rest of the band, and (obviously) with Adam. She's such a strong character, and I love how their relationship grows. Like I said before, everything feels so real. Even the simple conversations between characters is real. I didn't feel like I was reading a book - I felt like I was experiencing everything Rowan was, and that just makes me love Mayhem even more. I'm excited to start Dee and Joel's story in Riot and the rest of the series, but I don't know if they can beat my love of Rowan and Adam. I hope we get to read more about them in future books! They absolutely perfect for each other

What a great story. I loved it. Adam works well in this story. So does Rowan (and Peach!). It's cute, you know what's happening, but you love the ride you are taken on. Had to move on to the next in the series.

What happens when a player doesn't play? What happens when the guy who asked you to wait till marriage doesn't wait? What happens when breakup meets rock concert? Mayhem happens. I adore this book and I'm having a hard time putting it behind me. I keep re-listening to parts of it again and again. It's on my mind a lot and I can't want for book two. Since I listened to this one, lets talk about the narrators. I really enjoyed both of them. The voice that the female narrator has for Adam is so sexy. I could listen to it all day long. The last chapter is from Adam's POV and the male narrator does a good job of capturing him. They added to the experience - high praise from me. Adam is a player and a rock star. He does things that make me want to smack him. But his adorable grins and true feeling show through despite his best efforts to push them back. He's not looking for a relationship but one found him and he can't quite get her off his mine. Rowan (Peach) has her heart shattered. She shouldn't be drawn to the sexy rocker. She shouldn't be lying to him either but she's trying to protect her heart. Trying to survive her time with the boy that definitely has her mind off that rotten ex of hers. She knows he doesn't want a relationship and friendship is the best they can do but she can't resist letting her heart get involved. Can I just say that there are several things about this story that if I just said "this happens" or "that happens", I don't think I'd want to read it. But what's weird is that when you put those things together and you add Adam FREAKING Everest into the mix, I'm all over it. It's just that good. It has that book magic where things just work and the story has you invested in these characters. I think people who have read Jamie McGuires Beautiful series will enjoy this one as well. But if you can get behind some "weird" (this is weird, right) situations and some rocking good sexy times, then this New Adult book should be on your short list!

I started reading this book right before I was going to sleep. I didn't put it down until 5:05am. I had to wake up at 5:45am for work. I hated myself the next day, but it was worth it.

I had pretty high expectations for this book after listening to a couple of my friends rave about it. Unfortunately it fell a bit short for me. I had a tough time connecting with Rowan. I felt bad that her boyfriend cheated on her. I liked that she was finding solace with the rock star Adam. I loved how she interacted with her friends. But, she was just too wishy-washy for me. I wanted her to stand up for herself more. I hated the way she slut-shamed every female that wasn’t her or her best friend. If Adam was with a girl, she was automatically a skank or whore or some other unflattering name. I get it, you’re crushing on Adam and he’s hooking up with someone else, but point that anger towards him. I mean, after all, you hooked up with him the first night you met him. Pot… kettle. There’s no denying Adam was sexy as sin. But he was also quite a jackass. As Rowan went on tour with him and his band and the two of them grew closer to each other, I hoped he would calm down and be better. He liked Rowan. There’s no doubt about that. But when she turned him down, he hooked up with other girls. And you wonder why she can’t take you seriously? I know this isn’t exactly uncommon in books, but it raises my hackles every single time. I just don’t buy it. If you feel as strongly for someone as you claim, you don’t hook up with other people. You especially don’t do it in close quarters with the person you’re supposedly falling for. Now, Adam didn’t take it to the extreme that I’ve read in some books, but it was still a total turn off for me. All that said, I have to admit that Adam’s growth throughout the book was great. I respected the changes in his character. I wanted to love Rowan and Adam. I wanted to look past the disappointing things and focus on them together, but I couldn’t. She couldn’t seem to make up her mind and he just wasn’t trying hard enough for me. I found myself questioning how he really felt for her. It felt more like he only wanted her because she was unattainable, like he might enjoy the chase more than the real thing. It made me sad, too, because I really liked their chemistry and the pace at which the connection between them evolved, despite their unconventional first meeting. There was a ton of sexual tension that took far too long, in my opinion, to explode.  There was one thing I loved about this book – the secondary characters. They were fantastic. I actually liked them a lot more than I liked Rowan and Adam, if I’m being completely honest. I loved Ro’s friend Leti. He was hilarious; someone I’d definitely be friends with in real life. Rowan’s friend Dee was great in her own right. Adam’s band members were an interesting bunch of guys and I loved the dynamic between them. I might not have fallen in love with Rowan and Adam, but I definitely crushed hard on some of the secondary characters. I plan to continue the series just to see where life takes them. The secondary characters are pretty much the only reason this book gets three stars from me. One of the things that turned me off to this book so much was the similarity to another (very popular) NA book I read a few years ago. There were just too many coincidences for me. The characters were similar in actions (even though Adam wasn’t nearly as … intense … as the main character in the book I’m referring to). The situations they faced, down to her moving in with him, were familiar. Now, I’m not saying this work was copied. I just felt, at times, like I’d read parts of this story before.  I know my opinion is in the minority, so maybe it’s just me. Despite its flaws, Mayhem was an entertaining read. It started strong, and while it lost some momentum for me somewhere in the middle, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't pretty well wrapped up in Rowan and Adam's story. As I said above, I do plan to read Riot because I’m really interested in Joel and Dee’s story. I liked them in this book and I want to see what happens next.  I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via Edelweiss, in exchange for an honest review.

4 “Adam freaking EVEREST, I Heart You” Stars! Playboy Rocker and the Innocent Nerd Girl. Two Different Worlds, One Incredible Love!  The Review:  I absolutely adored this read. This is Jamie Shaw’s debut novel and It. Was. Wonderful! The story wasn’t to terribly original, as we’ve seen this scenario many times before, but the author’s clever writing, witty dialogue and wonderful character creating overshadow any rehash in storyline.  I couldn’t get enough of her characters. Adam is the quintessential bad-boy/man whore and Rowan is the innocent nerd girl with a sex-kitten hidden behind the glasses. The author does a terrific job towing the line between bad-boy rocker with a sweet side and player.  Adam lives his life on his own terms, not doing anything he doesn't want to do and he’s predictably against any type of commitment. The moment he meets “Peach” crying on the stoop outside Mayhem, she takes him by surprise because she’s not like all the other girls. And that night lives in infamy as Peach disappears into the night. Rowen is devastated the night she meets Adam but his saucy charm helps her past the most devastating thing that’s ever happened to her. But even as he’s inviting her to his bed, she knows that’s not the answer and disappears into the night, only to see him again in the most unexpected place. Quiet obsession ensues, until she finds the opportunity to help him like he helped her that night.  Their connection is sweet and definitely on the friends side but you can certainly see the spark. I loved the slow built and Ro’s innocent wasn’t overly obnoxious. In fact, it fit her circumstances perfectly. She was spunky and vibrant and her character stood out. I loved her no-nonsense style and I enjoyed her frankness. When she once again meets up with Adam after that night, she hides who she is and hides her heart from more heartbreak. I get why she did the things she did and I was cheering her on to get the happiness she deserved. Adam and Rowan were a lot of fun. Their banter back and forth was playful and made me laugh more than once. The Wrap Up:  This story was great. I stayed up all night reading and simply couldn't put it down. There was just enough angst to keep me happy, the writing was amazing, the characters were fascinating and I totally got butterflies in a few places! I especially loved the BFF’s and the little side stories going on. The entire band won me over and I can’t wait for their stories. And that ending... it left me with a HUGE grin on my face and couldn’t have been more perfect. This might have been my first book by this author, but it’s certainly not my last! Well done Jamie Shaw!  * Written for Craves the Angst Book Reviews *

Rowan lets her best friend De talk her into dressing up and going out to a local club to see a band play. They are there to have a good time, except before the show even starts, Rowan sees her boyfriend of three years hanging all over and kissing another girl. This is the same boyfriend who has wanted to remain celebrate until marriage. Heartbroken, Rowan runs outside to have her meltdown which is where she runs into Adam, the lead singer of the band they are there to see. He’s kind, he listens to her, they have a heated moment in his tour bus that helps her forget about her cheating boyfriend for a little while. This is how the rock star met the college freshman, but what the two don’t realize is, they are about to share a room in French class together the following Monday. Since Rowan was all dolled up, had a lot of make-up on and her hair done, she looked like a completely different person from how she normally looks. So on the first day of class, when Rowan is sitting in French waiting for the Professor to show up, she’s shocked to see Adam walking in with his harem of girls. He never notices she’s there, but then again, he never looks around. However, when the professor is ready to flunk him out of the class, Rowan steps up and tells the professor and Adam that she’s tutoring him in French and how he is really trying to do better in the class. Needing the class to graduate, he takes Rowan up on her proclamation and insists she travel with him and his band for the weekend while they go on a mini tour. Adam wasn’t a new character for me. He was the spitting image of Travis from Beautiful Disaster. He was a bad-boy who could have any girl he wanted with the snap of his fingers, except for his Peach. Peach is the nickname he gave Rowan the night of the whole breakdown. He still puts Peach on the backstage list, hoping he sees her again, but she never shows. Now, there’s a second girl to add to the list of chicks who have turned him down, Rowan. Even though he is attracted to Rowan and still hung up on Peach, he still continues to mess around with other chicks, while on the tour bus with Rowan. However, the moment she gets uncomfortable and takes off, he drops the girls he’s with and chases after her. He pursues Rowan but she pushes him away insisting they remain JUST friends because she doesn’t want to be just another one of his girls on his hook-up Rolodex of names. Everyone knows that Adam is in love with her and would do anything for her, but not Rowan. So he bides his time by being her friend while allowing the groupies to sit in his lap, dry hump him, and suck face. He never lets anyone in to his room, except for Rowan. She’s the only girl he will share his private room with. Yeah… Adam was kind of a let down for me. Mike (the drummer) was a huge sweetheart. When the guys all brought girls into the bus for some after party hanky panky, Mike is the only one doing his own thing. Rowan becomes close with him and they play video games together while everyone else does their thing. Mike is always the guy who hangs back from the crowd and allows the other guys to have at it when it comes to the groupies. I wish there was more of Mike. Hell, I wish Rowan changed courses in the book and fell in love with Mike instead. He was just such a sweet character and not typical of the rocker bad-boy character. I liked that we got to go behind the scenes of the band. Rowan spends a lot of time on tour with them in that weekend span. It was a little difficult imagining a double decker tour bus but it was cool that Adam takes Rowan (and the reader) on a tour of the bus. We get to meet the other band members, the roadies, the groupies, the venues, and see what it’s like to be on the road. I think the behind the scenes look at the band was my favorite part. This was an enjoyable read but it wasn’t anything I haven’t already read before. I felt like I was reading about an alternate universe of characters I’ve already read about. I know that had I not already read that book, this one would have had me squealing. However, in the end, I found the characters and story predictable, enjoyable, but predictable.
