You probably will recognize the sweet drawing style of Patrick McDonnell if you are a fan of the comic strip, MUTTS. I just adore his style and the art work in this book about Jane Goodall and her stuffed chimpanzee is just fantastic. There is a sort of dreamy quality to the work and there are little details much like scrapbooking and stamping. This should make an excellent addition to any child library as a first reader that any one would enjoy. I really enjoyed the story about Jane and her stuffed chimpanzee, Jubilee and was educated about her drive as well as entertained.

McDonnell is both author and illustrator in this fun tale of Jane Goodall and the passion for animals that was instilled in her from a young age.The India ink and watercolor create a beautiful pictorial representation to the story and show the animals in a fairy tale way. The vocabulary, pictures and story line make it a wonderful and informative read for young children.

Patrick McDonnel's wonderful illustrations make for a lively backdrop to the story of young Jane and her interest in the natural world from a young age. This is a great introduction for young kids to Jane Goodall's extraordinary life.

Me...Jane is a great book. It is about a curious girl named ane who lovJes to explore. Her dream is to go to Africa, and she does and becomes Jane Goodall, who is a world famous primatologist. It’s amazing illustrations speak so much to the overall ideas of the book. It’s a real example that if you set your mind to it, you can do anything. Jane wanted to go to Africa, and she made a plan that worked. One of its greatest assets is that it not only speaks to young kids, but it also speaks to older kids and adults, because they remember how it was to be an adventurous youngster. Jane is curious and adventurous, just like most kids, but her drive to succeed helps her achieve her goals. Me...Jane is a remarkable picture book, and I would personally recommend it to anyone I know.

In this story, a young girl named Jane loves everything about nature. She reads about and draws all of the plants, insects, and animals that she discovers with her stuffed chimpanzee Jubliee. She even reads a story about Tarzan in Africa and his friend Jane, who live with and save animals. Jane is very inspired, and her passion leads her to fulfill her own dream. Beautifully, illustrated, the story of how Jane Goodall life in nature as a child inspires her to follow her dreams. Includes a brief biography of Jane Goodall and a message from Jane herself. *Caldecott Honor Book, recommended for readers age 1 and up.

I read this book to my sixth grade science students, they just loved it (previously we read a two-page biography of Goodall, they enjoyed this MUCH more!). The illustrations are lovely and charming, and the kids all wanted to read it on their own throughout the week to enjoy the pictures close up. :)
