About the Author

Jack Kornfield

Jack Kornfield, PhD, trained as a Buddhist monk in Thailand, Burma, and India and has been teaching meditation internationally since 1974. He is one of the key teachers to introduce mindfulness practices to the West. He co-founded the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, Massachusetts and founded the Spirit Rock Center in Woodacre California. He holds a PhD in clinical psychology and has taught in centers and universities worldwide. Jack has led International Buddhist Teacher meetings with the Dalai Lama, worked with many of the great teachers of our time, and is a father and activist. He is co-creator of the Awareness Training Institute and has written more than a dozen books, including Meditation for Beginners; A Path With Heart; After the Ecstasy, the Laundry; and more.

Jack Kornfield has a wonderful voice and is very soothing. This CD set if very informative for beginner's looking to get into meditation. I have since purchased his six CD set, as it goes further in-depth with meditation and the meditation exercises.

Jack is a wonderful teacher. He combines the best of both--an excellent guide in beginning to meditate and his stories and experience help you to understand what the purpose of meditation is.

He rambles on entirely too much! Just when you think you're about to start the next meditation, there'll be a long pause, then he'll ramble on about this story or that story. I will say that he has a very calming voice, but he needs to know when it's time to speak or when it's time to pause. I became so frustrated by this, that I ended up buying something else.
