I was intrigued by the book’s basic tenet (“Competence Builds Confidence, Not The Other Way Around.”) By that, the author means that you can’t simply “visualize” or “think positively” about your love life and hope to turn it around. You actually have to get good at the skills that draw attractive guys to you. So he has you practicing some really nifty conversational tricks, first with “Low wattage” guys (guys you’re either not attracted to or just slightly). Then with “High Wattage” guys (the ones you’d leave home, family and career to smell their dirty shorts). This pacing really works. Every day you’re introduced to new concepts while you’re applying the ones you learned the day before. I found myself growing stronger and more confident—to the point where I can literally strike up a conversation with almost anyone. At the end of the book I just wanted to hug the author. He took me from a shy, bookish guy who went to bed early –and alone—on a Saturday night to somebody who meets and dates good looking guys on a regular basis. My whole life opened up by learning the skills in this book. The only caveat is that it takes WORK. While it’s an entertaining read you’re wasting your money if you think you can scan the book for a few lines and use them at the bar. Remember, competence builds confidence, not the other way around.
