Overview

Melbay's Getting into Jazz Fusion Guitar by Scott Miller

In Getting Into Fusion Jazz Guitar, author Scott Miller presents the most common scales and modes used in fusion and other contemporary music styles. Each of the modes of the Major, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor, Diminished, and Whole-Tone scales is explored in depth, presented in conventional as well as three-note-per-string scale patterns. Correct modal chord voicings for each mode are provided in standard notation as well as tablature. Also included is a play-along CD containing one or two chord vamps for each mode, to aid the student in capturing the essence of these exotic sounds used in contemporary music. Although Getting Into Fusion Jazz Guitar is geared for intermediate or advanced students, the material is presented in a logical, easy to understand fashion, allowing all guitarists to benefit from the information presented.

Mr. Miller has done an exceptional job giving chords and the modal charts to solo over those chords. This book is a gem. Hats off to Mr. Miller for spending the time and effort to make the melodic and harmonic minor understandable. Truely a great book.

This book taught me more about scales, modes, and chords in two hours of reading than I had ever learned during my 20 years of playing classical piano. It is an extensive source of essential practice material for any guitarist regardless of the style of music being studied. They say that music is a language. With spoken language like English, eloquence comes with a price - mastering grammar and vocabulary is the foundation for freeing up your mind to focus on the message you want to deliver and how to deliver it. It is naive to assume that musical eloquence can be achieved without paying the corresponding price of learning music¿s grammar and vocabulary. Getting Into Jazz Fusion will take you through scales, modes, chords and the relationships between them in a methodical and easy-to-follow manner. I have found that this book has the excellent quality of simultaneously being an excellent textbook on the subject and a very-easy-to-use lesson/practice guide.

NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF MUSIC YOU PLAY OR YOUR CURRENT SKILLS, THIS BOOK WILL TAKE YOU TO A NEW LEVEL. I FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM PLAYING AND CAN IMPROVISE REGARDLESS OF WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC IS BEING PLAYED. POWERFUL BOOK...WELL STRUCTURED...HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

This book sets it all straight. Anyone caught in the myre of confusing jazz fusion needs this book. Few other books blend chords, voicings, intervals, and scales with a cd into such a useful text. Mr. Miller truly sets himself apart as a master of the guitar. I could have spent years acquiring all of the information that is contained in this one book. Great job, keep up the good work.

This book is phenomenal! Out of all the books I've purchased over the years on scales and modes, this is surely the best. This book will instantly give any guitarist (from beginner to advanced) an understanding of jazz scales, modes, chords and chord progressions. I can't say enough good things about this book; it has truly (finally) opened my eyes and ears to those sounds I've been hearing for years by the greats on jazz and jazz fusion CD's. A remarkable piece of work!
