Overview

Thrust down from an unknown galaxy, Star awakens in a strange forest. Unsure of his surroundings and unable to clearly remember his past, this child explores the beautiful land around him, which is full of tunnels, moonlight, and creatures of all kinds. He contemplates the changes he experiences on a daily basis – birds learning to fly and caterpillars turning to butterflies – and he wonders what type of change will occur within himself. He thinks, Will it bring me to a deeper sense of personal understanding? As he faces his fears and learns to accept these new changes, Star grows in ways he never imagined possible.

A storybook for little ones, older children and even adults, I found myself identifying with the characters in their fears, their self-reflection and their courage to face their fears and overcome adversity, including self-imposed limitations and (dare I say) depression. Not only can readers of all ages benefit from this story that tackles fear and anxiety, and how giving into them can rob one of so many wondrous experiences, it also addresses sacrifice, friendship and love. It pulled my heartstrings more than once put me in a frame of mind to start facing my own fears (and depression which I experience every day of my life) with more vindication. I have difficulty doing things outside of my comfort zone, and while I do try, this book will stay with me forever. Now, every time I feel fear or anxiety grip me, I will remember Star and Annie and all of their friends and loved ones and forge ahead. A great gift for a child, an adult experiencing a setback, or anyone who feels lost and doesn't know how to find their way "back" (hint, overcome fear and you're almost there ;-)).
