...books and stories, that's where the magic is Bette Lee Crosby is a master storyteller and her latest novel, Memory House follows the path of all the rest of her novels I have read - excellence. Her captivating characters had me eating out of their hands. Bette's writing takes us back and forth, between the past and present of Ophelia's life, since she entered Memory House in Richmond, Virginia. She is such a wonderful person, alone, yet so giving of herself to others. She runs a small apothecary shop that may supply someone with items for beauty, a common cure, or a love potion that a weary traveler may need. Ophelia has many memories, not all of them her own. It is time for the passing of the sword. Could Annie be the one she has been looking for? Annie will find herself on Ophelia's doorstep, after a failed relationship. Michael, her boyfriend is a super jerk, taking advantage of her desire for a relationship and her easy nature. He trots through life as if he is her gift from God and his desires are her desires. Boy is he in for a surprise as she realizes she doesn't have to have him in her life. Will she leave him? Will such an arrogant personality allow it? He was so sure he could leave and come back whenever he wanted and she would be there waiting for him. I felt a sense of danger in the writing and the thought that maybe Michael, her ex, would come after her, but Bette Lee Crosby's dangers are more subtle. Funny how smells can bring forth powerful memories and here at the Memory House Bed & Breakfast, they were good memories, healing memories, for Annie. Will the magic of Memory House enter her life and soothe her soul, giving her a purpose? Ophelia and Annie quickly develop a comfortable relationship, as if it is meant to be. Bette Lee Crosby has a way of giving you comfort when bad things happen. Sometimes I need to be reminded of the simple pleasures in life and her writing does that for me. As per Bette Lee Crosby's books I have read in the past, the story ends with tears of happiness swelling in my eyes. Another wonderful heart warming story of love, life, pain and sorrow, and the path her characters must walk through in life. I received Memory House in return for an honest review.

Memory House is one of the best books I've read, this year or any other. Bette Lee Crosby has the remarkable talent for writing stories that touch the heart and soul of her readers. Memory House is one of those stories. I did make the mistake of reading this one out of order and some of the surprises were spoilers, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment. So, I caution you to look out and read these in order for the utter pleasure of watching these people's lives unfold, mesh, and spool out into their destinies. Read Ms. Crosby's books with tissues, though. If you're like me, when someone touches my heart like she does, tears of joy and empathy abound! Do yourself a favor and pick the series up today!

Just finished this wonderful story. It brought back very vivid memories of sitting on a neighbors porch listening intently as he told his stories. He captivated his young audience. That is what this authors tale did for me. Memories are vital and precious. Betty Lee Crosby unleashed some long buried thoughts and emotions for me. I very definitely intend to read a good bit more of her literary offerings. She definitely writes with the voice of an extremely talented storyteller. J M Lydon

I was spellbound by this moving story about Ophelia and the young guest, Annie, who finds her way to her doorstep and her heart. These two women were a delight to meet and each one holds a special place in my heart. Ophelia is nearing 90 and time is running out for her. Annie is a young woman with no direction, drifting through life and looking for her place to call home. Was it fate that brought them together? I like to think so. I loved this story. The excitement to see what would happen, to see if what I wanted to happen would and where these two women wound up kept me flipping the pages. Every time something I wanted to happen did, I looked up, wanting to share what I just read. No one was there. Probably a good thing as I would have spoiled the book for them. I can share this with you though. Bette has a way of sprinkling connections to her other books into this story. I recognized characters and events, and even some of the objects that held memories. It endeared this book to me even more. I finished with a sigh of delight and a twinkle in my eye. Magical.

I have read other books by Bette Lee Crosby and they as well were great. Lots of times you read a book and you ask yourself what happened to the characters once the book is finished. Some of the characters from her previous books are brought back in this one. In my opinion this book can be a standalone book also. A beautiful story about the treasures of memories past being shared. This book will grab at your heart and helps you to see how important memories are. Memories must be shared so that they can be carried on for years to come by others. Bette is a great author!! I truly loved this book!!

STORY LINE MEMORY HOUSE: Author Betty Lee Crosby created a heart-tugging romance novel in Memory House. Crosby crafted characters in Ophelia and Annie, which were strong, determined and warm. Ophelia, widowed early in life from her lifetime love, has a gift few possess. Ophelia spends her life in others memories by touching their possessions; possessions she calls her treasures. Reaching almost 90, Ophelia meets Annie and instantly knows she will play a role in Annie’s life. Teaching Annie herbs and potions is only part of what Annie will learn from Ophelia. Annie craves security, love, husband, and children. Leaving a long-term dead-end relationship with manipulative Michael, Annie leaves the city for small town Burnsville. Ophelia rents Annie a room and the story begins. Each realizes the other is special. Annie will discover she possesses unknown strengths and gifts. As well as, finally finding resolution in her professional and love life. Ophelia and Annie begin a journey unlocking memories of happiness, heartache, and treachery. As a result Annie will meet her destiny. Come have a seat, grab your favorite beverage, and enjoy my fiction/romance novel review of Memory House. CHARACTERS, PLOTTING, AND DEVELOPMENT: Where do I begin? Sometimes words fail a reviewer; this is one of those times for me. Crosby created a wonderful tale filled with emotions and longing. So much longing was infused into this story. As a result, she grabbed me immediately and did not let go until the last page. I was filled with anticipation to read each of books in this series. Written as a standalone, Memory House will inspire the reader to run and buy these books. Furthermore, Crosby developed each character throughout the book to their full potential. Her characters have warm and compassionate hearts for love, home, and people. I felt Ophelia and Annie were just next-door, waiting for me to come visit. Annie grew continually to become a confident happy woman. Memories of happy times are unlocked as well as sad terrible memories as she and Ophelia explore her gift. The concern of Ophelia for Annie’s ability to feel the bad memories is palatable. Consequently, the plotting fills the reader with anticipation and sometimes unease. Annie ‘s gift is unique; obsessed with restoring a bike from visions of a small boy pedaling along, she searches to find answers. Ultimately, she learns more of herself, her gift, Ophelia, and life. Crosby skillfully wove the many threads together to form a book the reader will not want to put down. Finally, in concluding my fiction/romance novel review of Memory House, I found an unforgettable story of love, memories, and longing. Crosby did not need fluff or sex to sell Memory House, as the story sales itself. Crafted with skillful writing and development, Memory House will stay with readers long after they finish the book. When I finished Memory House, I had a strong desire to hold my Granny’s apron; I wanted to feel her one more time and see her smile. Crosby, with skillful writing, presents the premise that memories never die but live on in objects and inside the individual. What a wonderful thought! MEMORY HOUSE RECOMMENDATION: STARS 4 I did not hesitate to give Memory House 4 well-deserved stars. Without a doubt, I would not hesitate to buy this book for my self or a friend. FINALLY PLEASE NOTE: Additionally, I received this book from the author and chose to voluntarily review the book with an honest

MEMORIES AND MAKING A CHANGE. Rated 3.5 stars. This is the first book in the Memory House series. This book can be read as a standalone but you know the story continues in the next book. I did enjoy this story even if it isn't my usual genre to read. It was a nice change. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The author did a good job of giving the two main characters, Ophelia and Annie, real emotions and explaining their backgrounds. Can memories be stored in an object? And what do you do with that information, if anything, once you know it? Or is it better to just leave those memories alone?

Having already read Spare Change I really looked forward to reading Memory House. I owe a big thank you to Bette Lee Crosby, the author, for gifting me with a copy. Sweet, sentimental, magical story that will touch your heart. I admit the last few chapters really got to me, as in two tissues worth. I loved this story not only because of the references to characters I first met in Spare Change but because the new characters, Ophelia and Annie are just so wonderfully written that you can’t help but love them. This story has magic wafting through the pages. Ophelia’s memories and some belonging to other people weave a web of enchantment. The stories that seem to be tied to the objects which Ophelia treasures are they real or fanciful, Annie doesn’t know but she wants to believe. Ophelia knows Annie has found her way to Memory House because this is where she belongs. Wonderful story, a lovely example of magical realism done the right way. I recommend this spellbinding book to anyone who desires to be enchanted.

Bette Lee Crosby has again written a heart warming book filled with charm, comfort and a touch of magic in Memory House. The reader slips easily into the world of Ophelia Browne and Annie Cross and the mystery of the Memory House. Annie Cross stumbles across the Memory House, a B&B owned by Ophelia Browne, following her breakup with a jerk of a boyfriend. She’s is seeking a quite place to heal and re-evaluate her life and what is important. Ophelia, nearly ninety, believes that memories outlive their owners and attach themselves to certain objects. Ophelia can hold these objects, like an old family bible, and see memories. But she is getting old and time is running out to find a successor, someone who also can feel these memories. Ophelia believes Annie is the one. Will Annie believe in Ophelia and the memories? Or will things go impossibly wrong? This book is beautifully written with characters that seem as though you have always known them. The idea that memories live on is so wonderfully told in Ophelia’s memories of her husband and their short time together. While this book is one of a series, it can be read alone, but the reader won’t want to stop there. You’ll want to quickly get the other books to continue on the journey that Bette Lee Crosby has begun I receiver this book from the author and I’m delighted to review it.

Another fantastic book by Bette Lee Crosby. She has become one of my favorite authors! It should be noted that although Bette Lee Crosby gave me this book for free, I am writing the following review without bias and based on my true feelings about my experience having read it. Memory House is a story about life and what you can learn from those around us. Opehlia Browne is getting close to 90 years old and Browne women never live past 90, so she feels she needs to find someone to learn about the memories she keeps so close to her heart. One day that person randomly arrives at Ophelia's Bed and Breakfast, and her name is Annie Cross. Annie, is at a cross roads in her life and meeting Ophelia is just what she needed right now. The two become close friends and it seems that Annie has the gift to carry on the memories that Ophelia has been keeping close to her heart. A beautiful story of two women who find each other and the memories of others that comes full circle.

Memory House, first in a series by Bette Lee Crosby is a charming book not to be missed by readers who enjoy magical stories. Ninety-year-old Ophelia senses memories in objects...memories from long ago and people she does not know. When Annie, heartsick and disillusioned with her job and love life shows up at Ophelia's bed and breakfast, a special bond forms almost immediately. Is Annie THE one to take Ophelia's place with the memories in Memory House? Can Annie learn how to sense them too? What about her job? What about her old boyfriend who keeps showing up on the scene? Crosby has done a great job with the plot that moves along well. Her characters are realistic and likable (or maybe not so much the boyfriend) and who doesn't love a little magic in a story! Affairs of the heart, mystery, and magic--a good combination for an enchanting story. The author has intertwined some of the memories in this story with the rest of the books in this series. This reader is looking forward to reading them!

I felt this book was average. Didn't wow me and I didn't feel that rush to pick it up again. Nice, even story without roller-coaster events or high emotions.

I feel a bit guilty having to give this book only two stars when other reviewers clearly seem to have loved it. Perhaps I had higher hopes for the story, but it seemed a bit simplistic to me -- something along the lines of a Hallmark made-for-TV story. I had difficulty when the chapters moved from first person to third person and then back again and there were times when the author would state ahead of time what was about to happen, as if the reader couldn't figure it out for themselves. I didn't feel that the characters had enough depth to me -- although I did have fun picturing what Miss Ophelia must have looked like (to me I kept picturing my paternal grandmother). I love history, genealogy and antiques, so the premise that items can hold memories of others was both inviting and intriguing. I have many items belonging to loved ones I have lost and the mere sight of them can bring a flood of emotions and memories. I do often sit in some of my old old rockers and even try to envision the host of mothers who have sung their babies to sleep in them. I can line the drawers of old dressers and be filled with thoughts of all of the baby shoes, hand-made presents and love letters they have kept sacred in the past. For the walk down memory lane, I am grateful that I read the story. For future reading material, I fear I may have to look elsewhere.

Strange, low key but sweet story. Less than 200 pages so easy read for an evening or weekend. Kind of makes the reader want to believe ...

Ophelia Browne, owns a beautiful bed and breakfast. That isn’t advertised when Annie Cross, just happens upon it. Ophelia is eccentric but she does let Annie know it right away. Ophelia believes that objects retain their former owner's memories. She has experienced this for herself but that is a thing you don't just blurt out if you want to be taken seriously. Ophelia has a great gift, and talent that can helps Annie to make her decisions for her future. The more time that Annie spend with Ophelia, she begin to feel that they have built a great bond that they have been made together. This was such an enjoyable book to read. There are so many things in this book that was quite delightful. I am so glad that I didn’t miss this one. Because I also feel that there are very special memories in item and in life. That we should never let go of. Bette Lee Crosby, has a way with her characters that you feel part of their lives.

Memory ~ the power or process of remembering what has been learned, the things learned and kept in the mind. Memories are precious to us and if we can keep them we will do anything that we can to do just that. How would life be if memories could transfer from one person to another? Is that even possible? Would the other person feel the same thing that you felt? Could you compare notes on memories or dispute facts? Annie Cross is a basis woman living a basic life. She has just broken up with her boyfriend who she was and still madly in love with. Life is moving slowly but it is moving along. Annie it trying to cope so she decided to go to a bed and breakfast called Memory House where she meets a woman who is some sort of special. How do you go to a place called Memory House if you are trying to forget your past? Do you forget or do you remember the good times and keep on looking forward to the future? Ophelia Browne is a special woman. She feels things that others might not feel. She feels things that others may have felt in the past but no one else can feel currently. Who is she and how does she feel these things? Does she really feel these things or does she just want to feel these things to feel better? What makes her so special and how does she do what she do? Memory House is the first in the Memory House collection. This is a light-weight, feel good book that gives you a feeling of pleasure and peace. It is not a very dramatic book with a lot of ups and downs but the story line is very consistent. What an intriguing premise for a storyline that blended the past with the present. The characters pulled you in from page one and kept your interest until the very end. What a soft spoken story told between two characters that made you feel like you were watching an old movie.
