Just when my life seemed manageable, I'm thrown radically off course by "the one".
"The one" I wasn't expecting.
"The one" I never knew I wanted.
"The one" who single handedly holds the key to the tattered lock safeguarding my heart. Letting someone into my protected sanctuary will only serve one purpose - intentional infliction of pain and heartache... and I'm positive I'm not capable of handling that.

New Rules:
1. Avoid LOVE at all costs.
2. No complications.
3. I will not become 'dick'matized by the hotshot guitarist. It was only a no-strings attached weekend.
4. The lyrics he writes may seem magical, but it's a façade. Lyrics can't mend broken heartstrings - no matter how strong my heart swells with his words.

First, I will say that I loved the first book in this series. This one had the potential to be as good but it felt like the author was in a hurry to make it end. I kept waiting for them to open up with each other, discuss her childhood, etc. but it never happened. Major issues with each character were left unresolved and I don't even know how to begin to address the abrupt ending. Very dissapointing and I hope the author will go back to the level of story telling in the first book of the series.

Whitney is Alexis's best friend and Jon is the lead guitarist in Garrett's band. Jon meets Whitney when Garrett brought Alexis and Whitney to see one of his performances. Jon and Whitney really hit it off and spent the whole night talking. But, when Whitney went back to Tampa and her real life she decided that it would never work between them. She couldn't risk it. Jon is a recovering drug addict and has been clean for two years. He can't get Whitney out of his head. But Jon isn't the only one with secrets. He manages to get Whitney to talk to him and she admits that she has feelings for him but that she can't risk it in case it doesn't work out. It could come between Alexis and them because he is in Jon's band. Jon is determined to not let this stop him. He will start out as only her friend if he has too but he isn't letting her get away that easy. Will Whitney be able to open her heart to Jon and take a chance or will she let possibly the best thing slip through her fingers. Both Jon and Whitney have parts of their past they don't share with anyone but Whitney lets he past hold her back. I really liked this book. I was sad for Whitney. No matter how much she tried to act like her past doesn't affect her now it does. She is so afraid to let someone in and break her heart. They both have been through a lot but if given the chance they could help heal each other. I loved that you got to read more about Alexis and Garrett as well. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I am excited who's story will be next. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 stars This is book 2 in the Heartstrings series but can be read without reading book 1.  This story is about Jon and Whitney; who are both part of the extended family of Garrett McKenna.  Jon is the guitarist in Garrett’s band but treated more like a brother.  Garrett has to put Jon in his place to help him get his life back on track.  Once Jon is back and ready to tackle the world in a new light, he longs for that one person.  Jon knows who that person is; Whitney.  His body and soul is able to feel her when she walks into the room even when he can not see her.  But Whitney has been trying her best to stay away from Jon.  He has all plans to find out why. Whitney is best friends with Alexis, Garrett’s wife.  So she knows all to well the life that band members lead but she has always had a soft spot for Jon but with the way she was brought up, there is no way she is planning on falling in love.  Love is not for her.  She has witnessed that first hand by her parents.  As tough as she is, sometimes the heart is tougher. As Jon and Whitney continue to form a friendship; they both realize that maybe there is more between them than just friends.  When an accident occurs making them both realize that sometimes you have to just leap no matter the cost.   But will Jon and Whitney be able to forgive and move ahead when their past are revealed?  Can they learn to trust with their whole heart?  Or will their past keep them apart?  The book did end on a cliffy of sorts…..but looking forward to book 3 in this series.   The way Author Felicia Lynn is able to bring the characters to life makes you want to have friends just like these.
