I love this cook book so much I bought one for my daughter too. It's my go to cook book, it has every recipe you'll ever need and a lot of helpful ideas.

Want a cookbook that has everything from 3 page instructions on how to make an angel food cake to how to kill a chicken? Then this is your book. This collection includes money saving recipes, how to cook every vegetable, easy substitutions, helpful hints and instructions that are especially great for beginning cooks. Yes it does have a recipe for Squirrel but also practical recipes for things you would have right in your pantry. I have given this several times as a bridal shower gift because of the range of recipes and ease of use. The spiral bound version is the way to go as it is a huge cookbook. (recommended recipes-Turkey Muffin Cups, Sloppy joes, angel food cake)

This has been a staple of my kitchen for many years. Good, hearty food and simple to understand advice make this cookbook a lifesaver. This is not 'gourmet' or 'south beach diet friendly fare. Gives instructions on how to cook every vegetable, how to make an angel food cake and how to behead a chicken. I have given this to several 'new cooks' as a cooking reference book and use it on a weekly basis.

This may make a good nostalgia or novelty item for those who collect cookbooks but cannot be considered a standard reference for cooks (either new or experienced). It relies too much on desserts and sweets, and main dishes and vegetables center around heavily sauced, fat- and sodium-laden concoctions that passed from favor many years ago.
