You simply can't go wrong with William Stanek. His stuff is always accurate, useful, and to the point. I've been an admin since 1996. His books have taught me everything I know. Incredibly helpful and highly recommended.

Windows 2000 Administrators Pocket Consultant is the one W2k book I reach for more than any other. It has all the practical stuff you need to admin, and is surprisingly complete when it comes to the stuff you do every day. I highly recommend this book even if you already have several other W2k books on your desk.

Robert Stanek's lastest edition of his excellent Windows 2000 Pocket Consultant series continues his tradition of bringing solid tech information in an easy to read format. His books are the only computer books that I actually read from cover to cover. I've purchased every edition of his Pocket Consultant books since the Windows NT Pocket Consultant and have found very useful information in every book. I often buy several copies so that I have them wherever I am. I bought 4 copies of this one (one for the office, one for home, one for the car when I'm out at client sites and one for the our company library so everyone would stop stealing my copy). I am a MCSE and a Microsoft MVP. I work in tech support handling local user base and remote offices. I answer technical questions in support forums and regularly recommend Stanek's Windows 2000 Pocket Consultant book to people who are experiencing problems or have questions. This is the book that made me wonder how come all those other technical books make getting answers and finding truly useful information such a difficult and confusing task. I nod my head in understanding when someone tells me they waded through hundreds of pages in another book looking for answers, gave up and then found the answer in this book in a few minutes. Stanek's writing style makes reading the book a pleasure. Depth of content gives you a feeling of satisfaction that you've covered the subject thoroughly and gained a very clear understanding. This is followed up with steps or procedures to implement. This is the book by which I judge the quality of other books on Windows 2000 topics, and I have yet to find one that contained something this book didn't tell you and nowhere near as clearly or comprehensively. I have not yet needed to look at another book on Windows 2000 and don't think I ever will.
